Beware Expansys Selling HSPA+ Stuff as 4G
Just got an e-mail from Expansys with a headline offer to get ready for 4G.
The device they are suggesting buying is the Huawei E586 Wi-fi Mobile Modem which has been on sale in the UK for some time. This device is NOT 4G capable. It is 3G HSPA+ capable only up to speeds of 21Mbps. A newer model now available which features DC HSPA+ with speeds up to 42Mbps called the E587. The real 4G Wi-Fi modem soon to be released by Huawei is the E5776 which has support for not only DC HSPA+ but LTE on a variety of frequencies. Well done to Expansys for starting the deliberate consumer confusion that will no doubt see lots of vendors pitching old stuff as 4G compatable. |

Good.... consumers can do without this type of blatent misrepresentation.
3.5, 3.75 etc is NOT 4G. 4G is LTE and companies like Expansys know that. I had respect for Expansys because they are generally first to offer new technology, especially mobile devices and I have seriously considered buying from them but after getting an e-mail from them describing a well known 3G device as 4G it made me think twice about doing business with them ever. |

Agreed. Of course LTE isn't true 4G either. It would be better described as 3.9G. This only makes Expansys' email even more misleading.
While I think that 4G shouldn't be being used at all I can see that calling it LTE would only cause more confusion and later versions of LTE advanced could possibly reach true 4G speeds. |

Isn't Expansys owned by a certain Dragon from BBC's Dragons' Den going by the name of Peter Jones. I got the same e-mail from them and it certainly wasn't 4G.
