I agree, my thoughts exactly, i was clapping as soon as the dance ended, Lisa really was the best dancer of the evening and deserved to be top of the leader board!, her lovely smile and enthusiasm all through her dance were really great and infectious, we all had a big smile on our faces throughout and it was just so instinctive to start clapping her, she was a real joy to watch............

No, Lisa got good marks because of her great dancing

She had rhyth, energy and enthusiasm and a great sense of style. Add a touch of humour and she earned her marks. Unlike the stern faced Victoria who then blubs for camera.

It was a bit of a Susan Boyle effect, wasn't it. A counterpoint of looks and preconceived expectations and a performance.

Same for a heavier person, we expect less so when they do a decent dance it gets high praise .A thin nimble dancer would be expected to do well and when they are not perfect they get criticised .
I have seen the older person get more praise for an ordinarly performance than a younger more supple one simpy because the expectation is less . You hear " WOW you got your leg up high there " to an older dancer , the same leg height gets no remark when raised by a younger one .
So Yes I do think weight or age can colour a judgement to be honest .”

So you think if one of the other dancers like Kimberley or Denise did that routine they wouldn't have got those marks?

She got the marks because the routine deserved it, not because of her size or how surprised everyone was but because she danced a fantastic cha cha. Her footwork was brilliant, their timing was impeccable, it was cheeky, flirty and fun, all the things a great cha cha should be and after all the angst and drama from the rest of them, thank God, someone having a blast and letting the audience enjoy it right along with her.

I thought it was an excellent performance. Full of energy and enthusiasm and for me - who knows naff all about dancing, like the vast majority of the viewers, I would suspect - she looked like she has good timing and rhythm and she had the steps down pretty well.

Well done to Lisa and Robin.

That said, now as the judges have told her she can dance, and we've seen that she can be lively and accurate, Robin is going to have to tone down the "COR BLIMEY! LOOK!!! A FAT LASS WHO CAN DANCE! WOW!" comedy choreography, otherwise they'll become pretty boring, pretty quick. And it'd be pretty blinking insulting for Lisa herself, seeing as she's shown she certainly can do it.

I dont know if they would have .I am not a dance expert so I have to take the judges as they see fit to mark .I am simply saying that expectation , be they big or small , thin or heavy , young or old does colour our expectation .
I enjoyed her dance , I liked it , I clapped in my head .,I have really no idea how good or bad it was because I am not a dancer .
I do know that some of the older contestants were never criticised like the younger ones .Thats all I am saying .

Havent read all the comments..but my view..Lisa was put in as the token "fat bird" and she poked them right back in the eye by dancing fantastic..

She had rythym..moved sharper and faster than many skinny minnies, looked like she was having fun,was light on her feet and was a joy to watch..in fact I have watched it 5 times now and makes me smile in a good way every time..

Go Lisa..bet the producers thought they would have a few laughs trying to watch her dance..well right back at you..cause she bloody can..

There have been rumours floating around on twitter and on here all week that Lisa was amazing and do the judges see the rehearsals or get snippets? So I don't think they'd have been that surprised.

I think they would have been well aware who had talent and who didn't. So I think their expectations are realistic and I don't think she got those marks because the judges thought "blimey, a fat girl that can move".

Darcey apart, I would guess they've worked with all shapes and sizes.

I have watched it several times today, really makes me smile, that dancing with joy and energy. Wish all genders, sizes and ages could dance with that pizazz.

Yes, it really does get better the more you watch it, doesn't it!

I thought she was good, her rhythm was great and she was fun to watch, but her dance was definately not worth an eight. Six, maybe seven, but not an eight.

I actually thought Louis's was the best dance of the night.

Louis is my favourite and I didn't think his was anywhere near her's in terms of technique and performance.

He overextends and loses timing, he's got arms he needs to control and although there was hip movement, it wasn't a natural movement. He was good with lots of potential, she was fantastic. He needs to improve the performance aspect most of all though.

All imo, of course.

I think there's certainly something in that. When you are expecting a disaster, and someone just blows you away like that, you probably over-react. It didn't really deserve an 8..not with the new "mean" marking anyway.
Having said that, her actual technique was pretty good, add to that the sheer joy of her performance, and I think she deserved to top the leader board. It's not as if any of the early favourites were exceptional..in my opinion.

Agreed, Louis is one of the ones that I'm backing but thought he was really quite stiff last night, obviously not used to the hip movements and being quite loose. That will come with practice though, hope he gets better and better

Craig said that she could dance. He never over-estimates anyone's abilities. Quite the opposite.

I was shocked at Craig's 8, extremely shocked. But would Craig give an 8 if it was just average? He probably wouldn't would he?

There's no doubt in my mind that that's what the producers were aiming for from the viewers at least when they selected Lisa to be on the show. No blinking way did they not know that she could dance.

And just like BGT (for I refuse to believe Cowell, Holden and Morgan didn't know exactly what was coming when SuBo opened her mouth), I think the judges were pre-warned. That could mean nothing or everything when it comes to scoring of course but the panel knew Lisa was going to be good.

In a kind of way it's a bit Pamela Stephenson all over again. The public saw her as one of the oldies (and probably with less potential than Felicity Kendal) and she confounded expectations to an extent too. She also finished on top of the leaderboard in her first week so there is precedent. She also made the final, finished there or there abouts most weeks with the judges and never hit a bottom two. Make of that what you will.

Just saw on the DM website whilst looking at another "article" that Lisa's mum died just two weeks ago Bet she'd have been really proud of Lisa's performance last night.

I couldn't see that bit but what did hit me in between the eyes was them referring the judge "Len Wiseman" Good or Wise, you decide

I thought she brilliant and easily the most enjoyable performance of the 14. I don't think it's fair for people to suggest she got those marks just because she's fat.

I felt a bit embarrassed for her but she did ok to be fair.
