He was just making a comparison to something people could relate to, to make hit point. I don't see the problem.

I can only say I wasn't offended myself as I took it as a medical term
I do think sometimes being offended on behalf of people who have disabilities is stepping on quite dangerous ground If you want to know I think Brruno labouring the point that Richard did not dance camply as he expected was more offensive. To my mind he has labelled Richard and doesn't want and will mark down any dance that doesn't fit in with Brunos wishes for Richard to be camp. You know the poor man does not have to be ON every moment of his life, he is allowed to be more complex and interesting I didn't watch much of Julian Clary , was he allowed to portray a different side? Craigs awful comment has nothing to do with Julian Clary, please don't try to involve Julian in this. |

to be honest I think the way to find out if it was offensive is to find out if someone who has a neurological condition WAS offended or did they just think , oh yeah I see what he means.
Obviously I can see it shocked and offended some people and would be interested to know whether it offended someone with any neurological condition But again for those without the condition to be offended on their behalf is, perhaps, somewhat patronising to them, as if they need protection or as if it is something to be ashamed of. Some people twitch and some people have freckles. To me it is as factual as that . But even I must admit twitching is rather more distressing for the twitcher ![]() ![]()

People have often thought Craig has gone too far with some comments, and Len too. Ive generally been in their defence in such cases and said people are being too sensitive or overreacting, or saying it wasnt meant in the context it sounded.
But tonight I did actually have a sharp intake of breath and go 'oooh (not in a good way) when he said that. I just wonder if he'll issue an apology. When Arlene was on the panel, a few Jurassic periods ago, the comments and satire from the judges were far more cruel. |

honestly sometimes people read more into posts than there is there. I would be interested to know if someone who watched it could answer that |

No, no , please no Board of Censors this early in the competition! If you at home were outraged, keep it to yourself or to this forum, but asking judges to issue apologies is taking the Modern Sensitivity thing too far.

Many people with a neurological disorders are not aware enough to be offended, that is why it is so grossly unfair to take advantage of them in this way.
the worst and most distressing part of most neurological conditions is that behind the frozen face or flailing arm is a mind that is fully functioning. Stephen Hawkins has one of the best minds on the planet, Michael Fox is a great champion and fully functioning actor I cant remember their names but those fighting for their right to die , fully understand the legal, ethical and moral implications of what they are asking for Get your facts right Terry before you post such patronising guff again |

Shefair, but this is the thing about the internet... How do you know that fellow posters don't have tics or spina bifidi, tourettes or any of the progressive neurological conditions? Is it patronising to assume we don't?
I don't think so. You're not meaning to be patronising at all when you make those assumptions. I'm saying that without any sly meaning. You're not the bad guy. I'm not the bad guy. Terry is not the bad guy. No one is the bad guy. Patronising is one of those words that gets chucked around sometimes and isn't useful. It's like the little insult that stops off good feeling and makes ordinary decent people cowardly about their good feelings. IYKWIM ![]() I don't even know that I'm offended on behalf of the neuro impaired person Craig had in mind. I'm offended as a human being. For what it's worth I don't think Craig or anyone should apologise under duress. Unfelt apology muddies the water. What he said jarred with me and I wanted to check what other people thought. |

Thanks Pet Monkey I dont think anyone (other than Terry for that last comment) is the bad guy.
Including Craig and no I have absolutely no idea who is posting on here and have more or less asked if anyone with a neurological condition would say whether they were offended. Obviously it means some personal disclosure which some people just dont want. I can only say I wasn't offended and see no need for an apology but could be persuaded if it turns out it has offended lots of people who have neurological conditions ans for the record following a severe head injury last year leaving ME with a slight neurological condition which means that as I am so tired now I am struggling to see well enough to post I have to go to bed so night all |

I rewound the tape as I thought I misheard. Bit uncalled for. It was odd.

You can throw insults around all you want but the fact remains that the brain is a very complex structure and the conditions that effect it are many and varied.

And your point about the whole range of possible needs is right too. I'm not being lazily liberal. It's just how it is. Why are you up late, Terry? I'm being daft. Missed show in real time. Started to watch it on iplayer. Got to Johnny. Got shocked. Came on here. Calmed down and went back to show. Got to Lisa. Got WOWed. Came on here to see what people said about her. Have not been able to leave. It's laaaaate. I want to finish the show. Am stupid

Many people find it difficult to understand the complex nature of the long lasting after effects of a serious head injury, as symptoms such as tiredness increased sensativity to light and sometimes sound plus many other things can be subtle, invisible and not apparent to those around you. |
