Take the Maria and Marcus storyline, It only REALLY started on friday, yet there were people (both on DS and on Twitter, mainly the latter) saying 'This is horrible, I hate it'/ 'It's so stupid and unrealistic!'.
I find that a little bit stupid. The storyline is only just beginning and you already hate it? Give it a chance! Another example is the EE Kat's mystery shagger storyline, but that one has been dragged out for so long, no doubt people are bored.

Kat shagger SL deserved all the negative comments it got and that its currently getting. Awful SL from when it was annouced everyone knew it was going to be shit and we havent been proven wrong.
As for Maria and Marcus, people are allowed to have opinions, so if they dont like it thats their opinion it doesnt matter how fast they formed that opinion. They might even change their minds but they are just giving us their first reaction to the SL.

Maria/Marcus storyline is ridiculous-You can't turn a gay man straight.

Kat shagger storyline is badly scripted and I find it annoying why Alfie is smiling when he's wife just told him he had an affair.

I just knew doormat Alfie would return with a huge grin on his face even though his wife has opened her legs again. I just hate Alfie, I hate that his a doormat and I hate it that his suspicious and doesnt trust Kat but is still with her. He is soo pathetic.

Agree. He should get a backbone. He's better off on his own than with someone who treats him like crap. What a wimp of a man, he is!

sometimes it's easy to pin-point shit to SL's before they start, from the way spoilers tell it and the boring or obnoxious characters they put into it...

I think Alfie has been nothing but tense ever since he learned of Kat's affair, he's certainly not back to being smiley Alfie. It's still been a bad storyline from start to finish though, well, start to middle as it currently stands.

I agree with the OP. Sometimes it feels like a lot of people on DS might as well not watch their favourite soap when they can just read the spoilers and slag it off in advance.


But you're over simplifying it. There'a a school of belief that sexually is as much about being attracted to an individual person than it is to a gender. Having feelings for Maria doesn't mean Marcus is straight suddenly.

And this is the BIG problem with the SL.

As many times as TPTB or any of the actors say that they AREN'T turning Marcus straight it will never be seen (or accepted by so many) as them trying to tell a story of a gay man having such a connection with a straight woman that he has grown such strong feeling for her that he feels he could possible be falling in love with her despite knowing he is gay.

The Kat Shagger storyline deserved it, I'm afraid.
All it was going to do was show us something we'd seen before, make Alfie look like a complete idiot and make Kat even more unlikable than she'd already made herself. This is arguably one of the most popular and loved couples in the show's history, and affair plots are just so continuously done to death I knew it would suck.
And guess what. It does.
It's dragged on for months now. And they are deluded to think we are on the edge of our seat about who it is.
If it's Derek... ew. What the hell would someone like Kat, who thinks she is God's gift to men, sleep with Derek? He's a disgusting human being, and he's, quite frankly, a fat old man!
If it's Jack... what's the point? The reason for it will be old memories of another storyline we all knew was going to be awful and was: the baby swap.

i dont think the story line is that bad

The maria Marcus story has been discussed on DS for months and like it or not people are going to have a opinion about certain characters & the story lines they are involved in but people have an opinion and have the right to voice it whether its right or wrong .

'Quick to judge' is par for the course round these parts.

The same thing is happening with the upcoming Denise/Fatboy storyline in EE. People moan when EE is the "same old" then when they come up with something unexpected it's written off before it has even began.

I think it's the fact that while Charlie Condou says Marcus is not turning straight or even bi, given the nature of Maria's character, they are almost bound to have sex, and now the idea of her becoming pregnant is thrown into the mix. That suggests he is going to be committed to her for the long haul because he has always wanted a family. Therefore it seems academic that he says Marcus is not 'turning' because a pregnancy storyline would indicate otherwise.
I don't like the story because I find Maria a very dreary character, but also I worry about the homophobes and bigots out there who will use this story to imply that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice and that gays far from wanting equal rights actually want additional rights. Unless it's handled in a believable way this is just going to be remembered as the gay turning straight storyline.

The problem is knowing months in advance, people get sick and tired of reading about it before its even started on-screen. Having the odd surprise like Hollyoaks have been doing lately keeps a soap fresh and gives the viewers a bit of suspense.

The Kat shagger SL is really drawn on/boring/utter tripe. but I don't understand what you're getting at with Alfie? There ARE people in this world that don't have a backbone and only see the good in people. Just because you don't agree with a characters personality doesn't mean the whole storyline is crap.

Yes sometimes you should give things a chance when you first hear about then in spoilers.

But we all have our own tastes and we all know the things we like to watch. I knew the shagger plot wouldn't be to my cup of tea because it sounded very sleazy, I was right.

thats not true Tom robinson was very gay and hes married to a woman with children although he still says hes gay so its not unrealistic its just rare

BUT you can have a Gay man try to be straight for a while because he THINKS its what he wants. People are jumping to conculsions about this storyline, thinking that thats it, he's straight now. But I dont think its that simple

Or Marcus could just suddenly realise he's attracted to a woman which to me wouldn't make him straight, it would make him bisexual.
Life can sometimes throw surprises at you and people can change. I wouldn't agree with him turning straight but don't see an issue with Marcus suddenly realising he's attracted to both men and women.
