Watching Youtube thro TV, not playing some vids?
Just got a new HD tv and can watch youtube on it.
Its playing some of my vids( tv clips in my favourites) but in my other folders like 80s vids, its says 'no data available' ? but i can play them on my laptop so whys it not playing them thro the tv? also on some vids thro the tv it says it cant play due to 'restrictions' ? is this due to copyright or something? |

Restrictions could be copyright or geo-blocking. For example; if you try to watch official clips of Comedy Central USA programmes like The Daily Show, you will be blocked.
Your TV may only play certain file formats and so does not recognise a "wrong" file extension (.wmv or .mkv being examples) The Humax HD/R Fox T2 series does this when playing back over a network and simply does not list them. |

It is not your TV that is the problem a lot of content suppliers for reasons i can not work out do not allow content to be played on the App version of you tube, whether it is Smart TV, Video streamer phones etc. On my tv A samsung if you put the TV in to web browser mode the TV acts like a desk top computer a nothing is restricted. Why they have the restrictions on the app version does not make any sence as the app version is more secure than the desktop version.

Some Youtube content such as that provided by Channel 5 and Channel 4 is only viewable when using flash. While many Youtube videos are viewable via flash and html5. With HTML5 it is easy to save the file to your computer and as such most full tv episodes and films aren't made available using HTML5.
The 4od app on the ps3, which is a specific version of the 4od website as you view it through the PS3 browser has limited content compared to the PC version. Which I think is due to having different file types and due to the ps3 using older flash. |

the reason why 4od and demand 5 do not work on you tube through a smart tv, is the same reason as my samsung freesat box, 4od and demand 5 restrict to pc only, why i don't know, because they both have apps for mobile devices.

Getting STUPID, isn't it! I mean - they're even now delaying rollout to Youview due to this constant fight over whether a device is secure enough.
FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, STUDIOS, JUST GET OVER YOURSELVES! PROVIDE THE STUFF LEGITIMATELY ON A CLIENT-AGNOSTIC BASIS SO WE, YOUR VIEWING PUBLIC, DON'T HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS! Someone shells out £300 for a Youview box, or £100 on a Roku, or £400 on a SMart TV - they WANT TO WATCH YOUR CONTENT EASILY AND LEGALLY... on THEIR choice of device! |

Yeah it is. I hope it changes but the problem is big business i.e. the Studios/Networks are always going to be protectionists. Until they are forced to change because if they don't it will effect their bottom line.
Funnily enough, they earned TEN TIMES as much through home video as they were taking through the box office when they came round! |

You tube app has just updated, all of the content that the last update allowed vevo etc. Is now blocked again. This stupid update must only effect smart TVs and boxes, The tablet and Phone versions of YouTube were only updated in the last couple of days and have none of the content blocking of the smart TV version, tablets and phones also until a few weeks ago also blocked vevo via you tube.
