Free, quick and easy http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/
Just be careful of any additional programs/toolbars it wants to install - read the options |

There is also "Any Video Converter". This allows you to play around a bit more with the output options, although when I compared the 2 programs the other day, Freemake was a lot faster at the conversion than AVC.
http://download.cnet.com/Any-Video-C...-10661456.html As with Freemake, read the wording while installing very carefully to avoid installing toolbars etc. |

To convert flv to avi format, you can use Format Factory or HandBrake.
Or try a trial version of this paid video converter. |

If you're putting your files on to a dvd DeVeDe will do the conversion for you. It's free but the Windows version is a bit slower than the Linux one.

I'll join Mac2708 in voting for Freemake. It's free, it's versatile (even more versatile than I thought as I discovered recently
) and it doesn't seem to degrade the video quality as some conversion software does. OK, it doesn't have the bells and whistles that the grumpy reviewer on Major Geeks complained about, but as a nice, simple-to-use piece of software it takes some beating.

WinFF is a very straightfoward convertor that gets on with the job without needing endless settings.

I haven't found anything faster than Allok video converter so far.
