So, the dance off is back. I'm not a fan of this as I don't think it makes a difference as to who the judges will save. The judges will already have a favourite going into the dance off, and short of their favourite falling over, I don't think it will make a difference.
Saying that, without the dance off, the results show is just one long drawn out announcement, which is SO boring.
Thoughts?

No. For the reason you stated.

I won't mind the dance off until the judges save the wrong couple.

If it is 2 votes each does "head judge" Len still get the deciding vote?

I would think so.

Not in favour at all. I bet it wasn't " By public demand" but by judges' demand. Boo !

The judges have usually saved who I want saved, so I don't mind it, and I know I'm in the minority.

As long as it's ditched at a reasonable point in the series (top 6 would be fine) it's probably much of a muchness whether it exists or not.

I like a good shock exit, so not keen on the dance-off. Makes things too predictable.

Also in the early stages, the routines in the dance-off are generally ones you hoped you'd never have to see again.

I prefer the show with the dance off. I do think, however, that if it is 2 votes each, that instead of Len having the casting vote, the contestant with the highest viewer votes should go through. The dance off makes it more interesting in my opinion

In one word; no.

In two words; Austin Healey.

In four words; waste of money voting.

I think the producers have put it back to "beef up" the results show.

I'm not a fan because none of my favourite couples are ever saved

On the whole, the Great British Public get the ranking order of ability correct, and it should stay like that.

I think you might be right Mrs F. The results show has felt a bit drawn out over the past couple of seasons and has needed something to beef it up. The GBP has actually done a pretty good job of getting the best dancers to the final over the last two series. We didn't really get a shock exit at all last year so maybe the PTB are hoping for some shock dance offs (Penny v Gaby, Zoe v Ali) just to liven things up.

I would still prefer no dance off or at least a return to the public vote in the event of a tie or else Len will almost certainly get his favourites in the final. Alternatively stopping the dance off when we are down to half a dozen couples is not a bad compromise.

There was absolutely no point to watching the "results" show last series - just log on here for the spoiler thread.

On the other hand, I agree with OP I remain to be convinced that the dance off is actually genuine - will the couple who perform their routine best on that occasion be saved? Or will the judges save their favourite (or even more of an annoyance of mine - the one with the most "potential to progress":sleep

I'm glad to see it back as long as it is gone by the time we are down to the final six couples. In the past when we had the dance-off I thought it should have stopped by the time we got to two dances a week, but now that happens later than it used to, so I think final six should be the cut-off.

If there is still a dance-off with so few couples left then it becomes so ridiculous with the bottom couple almost certainly in the bottom two that I'd choose not to have the dance-off at all than to have it continue so late in the competition.

if the bottom 2 couples end up in the dance off then yes, Im all for it but that usually doesnt happen

Yes, on hundred times yes. Adds drama and tension and gives some point to the Sunday show. And gives the judges the chance to save someone who can dance.

Yes I agree. Dance off makes the results show more interesting, but I don't want the decision to be all in Len's hands.

Won't it be the same with the dance-off? You'll still be able to check the spoiler thread rather than watch it, and the rest of the show will still be the same old filler. Very few interesting things ever happened in the dance-off (Letitia's waltz, Erin's hair falling out, erm...Ali stumbling around without her shoes on, in constant pain, anything else?) so it's not as though it's an entertainment powerhouse in its own right.

I may be proved wrong, and something exciting might happen, but when the EXCITING, DRAMATIC dance-off turns out to be Johnny Ball doing the stumbly-wumblys again, then Fern Britton doing a boring-ass foxtrot, then Johnny Ball obviously going home because he's 74, don't come crying to me.

Dance off would be okay if the judges didn`t try to save someone who the public obviously don`t support - maybe a clause, three times in the dance off and you`re out

Also when it comes to the couples doing two routines I think they should have to perform their lowest marked routine in the dance off

I really HATE the dance off!

The 'judges' have already had their say and given out marks for each couple.

It should be left to the voting public to have their say by voting for their favourite, no matter what criteria they use!!! What is the point in wasting time and money voting, just to have our opinion ignored.
