sorry possibly another thick one ,I had forgotten about this. I think it was Craig who said " spot the floor " I can't even think who they were talking about possibly Victoria - what does" spot the floor mean " is it a Craig ism ?

It's not a thick question at all.

What Craig said was, 'when you're doing your spins, don't spot the floor'.

If you watch a ballet dancer (for example) doing pirouettes, watch the head and eyes. The dancer will have their eyes glued to a fixed spot, 'spotting', which helps keep balance and focus and stops dizziness.

A beginner's mistake is to look at your feet rather than spotting into the distance, which is what Dani did.

I'm actually really surprised that Vincent hadn't picked up on such a basic error in training. It's so obvious her spins could have been better if she'd been taught the correct spotting technique... just seems very odd. Unless he did teach her, and she just forgot on the night, which seems equally unusual ....

Thanks, Cheryl - high praise, particularly as you DO know what you're talking about. I only know because Craig criticised Kara for doing the same thing in the final a couple of years ago (when she was out of her head in pain and on pain-killers) and so I looked it up.

I'm sure Vincent would have taught Dani how to spot, and equally sure that, with so many bliddy things to remember in her first dance, she simply forgot. It's instinctive, isn't it, to look at your feet to make sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing? I know the judges have got to give an honest criticism, but the first dance is like your first driving lesson when there's so much to remember (and so many things to get wrong). I remember my driving instructor telling me off for looking at my gearstick to see what gear I was in.
