Someone said that Mr Vaughan is so wooden that he is a ringer for the timber industry.

I don't care if Denise has previous dance training or not, I just like watching people who can dance reasonably well and are willing to put in the hard work to become even better.

And besides, NOBODY is a shoe-in to be winner. At the end of the day (or the series) it's a popularity contest, it's not always the best dancer who wins - bloody Chris Hollins won it once, don't forget.

A ringer is a person or a horse for example entered in a competition or race as a substitute impersonating the real person or horse and assuming their identity.

I think the only differences would have been that Dan and Rory might have been in a week longer with Nancy going out in week 3, Lulu might have stayed in ahead of Audley and the same with Anita and Robbie. Certainly I don't think it would have impacted in any way on the final or even the semi-final.

You're probably right.

Alesha would have voted with her ovaries and kept Harry in after any dance off.

Bruno would have voted with his not-ovaries and kept Harry in....

And the hoardes of hormonal teenage McFlea fans would have voted him the winner anyway

So Chelsee would still have been robbed.

John Partridge is a good singer as well, i saw him in Notre Dame De Paris.

I would love to see him on the show.

I do understand your point but I want to see them learn and grow and surprise us. I hate it when you can call the final 3 or 2 out of the final 3 and I think it's obvious at this point that 2 of the final 3 because of the dance off will be Denise & Kimberley unless they're both in the bottom 2 which I can't see.

We might as well send those two to the final and have a competition between the other 12 for the final place.

This year there seem to be so many with dance training that it makes the learning aspect almost redundant.

But look at the surprise of Lisa

and I dont discount Victoria

Lois may get a bit of personality

and I dont think Kimberley is really registering on peoples radar as yet , she is really quite bland and vanilla

have just checked poll at top of page Sid and Ola are doing quite well

I can see your point too and up until a few years ago I probably would have agreed with you. I think I've just got so sick of the Sargeants/Widdecombes who have no talent at all and can't be bothered to put the work in, but who get voted through every week at the expense of better dancers, I just want to see people who have some/a fair bit of talent even if it means half of them have been to stage school or whatever.

But yes, in an ideal Strictly world, it would be great if everyone started on a level playing field with the same level of experience (or lack of) and the same willingness to learn/work hard etc.

I'm not convined Denise will make it to the final - there seem to be a lot of people who don't like her and won't vote for her however well she dances. But we shall see, I guess.

Exactly. I think anyone (well ok, not Johnny, bless him) could make it to the final.

I think we both agree, we want a happy medium where no-one is Widdy-bad or semi-pro.

The trouble is she's going to be near the top of the leader board for a long while and the minute she's in the dance off, she'll be saved. I think the only two she could lose the DO to are Louis and Kimberley, maybe Lisa if she's got a fast Latin.

I'm thawing slowly towards Denise ad if she keeps annoying James, I'll thaw more . I just hate that they're all being so disingenuous, I'd have less of a problem if they admitted the obvious advantage that they have.

Are you not imagining the horror of Sid's Latin? Lovely guy, lovely waltz but I DO NOT want to see that rumba.

Great thread shefair.

I don't care any more about past experience, as long as it's not Ballroom or Latin and then I think the producers take the right approach by reducing the training time.

The only time I've thought a celeb was a ringer was when Mưa was on DWTS. She's been dancing since she was two years old and can dance a wide range of styles. She taught dance from quite a young age and is an experienced choreographer. She danced in films like Chicago (winning a SAGA for her part in the ensemble as Mona - Lipschitz) and Shall We Dance? She too was in the stage version of Chicago (on Broadway), but as Velma which involves more dancing than the role of Roxie that Denise played.

Mya never acted like a student in the training room with her pro and my impression was Dmitry wasn't strong enough to cope with her. She was a fabulous dancer on the show and I have a lot of respect for her as an activist and philanthropist, but she had far too much experience to be on DWTS. I know it wasn't Ballroom or Latin, but that's how I felt and I was glad when Donny Osmond won. If Mya had won I wouldn't have watched again. I didn't watch the next year when I found out that Nicole Scherzinger was paired with Derek Hough. Again her experience meant it was obvious they would win with Derek as her partner. She has a degree in acting and musical theatre (also played Velma) and had been dancing from a young age.

Nobody on Strictly has this level of experience, not even Denise.

I thought the girl from the Cheetah Girs who had a relationship with Mark Ballas, her name escapes me sorry , was the ringiest ringer in ringerland.

My son likes the Cheetah Girls and ivevseen their films and they were just 2 hours of choreography. That's without the tours, the stage school and the dance lessons.

ETA remembered her name - Sabrina Bryant

Widdy always gave me more entertainment than I could handle, she is always on top of my wish list, I'm just hoping that 'Widdy's Question Time' returns on 'It Takes Two'.

BIB - I feel the same way, until I remember that this isn't a show where the best dancers automatically win. Cat's right - the GBP often picks the j****** contestant - it's all about voting for our 'favourite' dancer.

It's another reason for loathing the bliddy dance-off, because it spits on the public's favourite dancer vote and replaces it with the judges' favourite ringer vote.

And, yes, DVO may spend the latter part of this series battling it out in the dance-off against people like Dani and Lisa, but she would run the risk of being loathed by the public for being saved by the judges, in exactly the same way as Lisa Snowdon and Pamela Stephenson were, so she wouldn't win.

Or she may win us all over and be like St Jill of Halfpenny - an obvious ringery ringer but also a deserved winner. It's a possibility...

I think you mean Sabrina Bryan and she was public's choice to return in the current series of All Stars. She's certainly as good as the previous winners or runners up. Honestly can't remember if I've ever seen the Cheetah Girls, but she was a shock elimination. From Wikipedia

Sabrina competed in the 5th season of Dancing with the Stars. Sabrina and her professional dancing partner, Mark Ballas, received a score of 26 out of 30, at the time the highest score earned in the first week by any contestant. On Week 4 of the show, they set another record by receiving a 30/30 from the judges for their paso doble, making her the first contestant to have received a perfect score that early in the show's history. Bryan led all contenders in judges' scoring in Weeks 1, 3, and 4. Bryan received her lowest score, a 25 for a foxtrot, during Week 6, in which she also performed a Rock n' Roll routine with the other contestants. That week, she was voted off. The announcement was met by shock and tears from the show's judges, contestants and live audience, since she and Ballas were favored by many to win the competition. An AOL poll voted their elimination "2007's most shocking TV moment." The next week, the remaining dancers and celebrities showed their continued support and affection for Bryan by donning her signature cheetah paw-print tattoo. For the penultimate week, Bryan and Ballas were invited back to the show to perform, another first for any couple. For the 100th show, their Paso Doble was chosen as number 9 on the top 10 dances of the first five seasons. Bryan and Ballas were the only couple in the top 10 that did not make it to the finals.

She too trained as a dancer before she was on TV, but she's clearly a popular choice to bring back for another chance at the mirror ball because she won the public's vote and is still in the competition at the moment and hasn't been in jeopardy yet. My guess is that the public didn't vote for her when she was first on the show in 2007 because they put how good she was down to her experience as part of the Cheetah Girls which were still popular at that time.

Thank you Buddy

I am quite excited really and dont mind if we have a few that can already dance to some level

I am looking forward to some really good dancing, I voted for Chris and really dislike Ricky so I am not a dance purist by any means

I could' nt abide Jason but that Bewitched dance from last year was a real highlight for me

I dont mind Denise the gurning annoyed me a bit but I do feel she is getting a rough ride for having no more experience than quite a lot of them this year and wanted to point it out

You are right OP. I think Kimberely and Denise have about the same dance experience . I don't care I like them both.

I believe the reason some people don't get as much stick is simply because they are liked more. Kelly Brook and Alesha Dixon were imo equally good dancers but Kelly got a lot more stick on here because she was not as well liked as Alesha .

A ringer? You mean like a Town Crier?

They all have some advantages, such as discipline required during training (the Olympians), performance talents (those actors and actresses, and stage school leavers) but none of them have ballroom dancing experience, except Fern who had a little bit of a taster and she was supposed to have been given a week 'ban' from training in the beginning as a 'compensation' to other contestants.

EVERY YEAR, we have this 'oh he/she's in stage-school/ done tap/ in west ends' arguements over and over. Aren't you sick of this?
