Have a sing off, give the public 10 mins to vote. Sorted! More democratic and more money in the coffers for ITV!

It's a win, win!!

An idea for the sing off - ban it.

The bottom voted singer goes, hence no sing off, therefore no additional wasted time for adverts, no need for judges to make any comment or prevaracate or try to look despirately sad that their 'best' singer has gone (he/she worked so hard, will have a br4illiant career to look forward too, etc, etc).,

If it goes to deadlock we draw a fifth judge member out of the audition to make the final decision

I have a better idea.

Once Dermot announces the bottom two - a curtain is raised behind him to reveal a boxing ring. The two lowest 'votees' get in the ring and knock seven kinds of cr ap out of each other. Last man (or woman) standing gets another week on the show. I know this would be a bit unfair should a group be up against a single candidate - but hey! Life ain't fair!

Seeing as song choice is often blamed, what about making the bottom 2 sing each others songs from the previous night, with a 5 minute free phone vote to decide who stays and who goes....

I think if it ever goes to deadlock the audience should be given them remotes that were on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and vote for who they want to be saved based on the sing-off.

I don't think its fair to go to public votes because they voted for the song they sang on saturday, no-one knows how amazing they might be in the sing-off.

The sing-off is fine. But the judges need to be told they MUST base the decision ON the sing off and not on anything else. No "but this person is more entertaining" etc. For the sing-off it must be the voice only.

Like Strictly is with the dance-off. It's not rocket science.

An idea for the sing-off - leave it just as it is, just alter the description.

X and Y have finished at the bottom of the public vote, and one of them has to leave. They don't know yet who it is, but we've already decided. The results show's a bit light on actual singing, so here's a chance for the act who's staying in the show and the one who's about to leave to showcase their talents for one more time. Then the judges will be seen voting to send someone home if the act we want to keep was at rock bottom of the poll. If the one we want to lose is at rock bottom, the judges will be deadlocked and will hand the matter over to the public vote.

I'm sure it could be better phrased, but that's nice and honest and transparent enough for everyone, isn't it?

Nah. Why should the voice suddenly become the sole deciding factor when the show's about all sorts of things other than that?

And as if there'd be any less controversy, not just as to who sang best on the night, but along the lines of "that's the first decent performance she's ever given - why should she come back over him when he's been good every week?" Or "yes, he's the better singer, but he's dull as ditchwater, nobody's going to buy his songs and he couldn't even fill the village hall in the village he comes from. But they could have been the next Jedward..." Or "she's as good as Leona, and she's dumped in round 3 because she had a sore throat!?!?!?"

I actually like that idea. If they get the answer wrong, then they can use the last lifeline "Ask the Producer" or "Phone-a-Producer"

Idea for the sing off: the one with the highest number of votes squares off against the one with the lowest. If the popular one is really so good then they'll get through easily. If not then it makes for great television. People love upsets.

Why let the public decide when they often get it wrong? Just look at that wildcard.

The X Factor is about have a certain je ne sais quoi and something that makes you special.

However if an act finds themselves in the voice-off it should be who performs and sings the best. It's a simple as that. No bells no whistles just the voice and the performance.

Well, that's one way in which it could be done. I've already said above why I think it's more flawed than the present process, and would breed as much discontent and make for a lesser show.

I agree that the public should vote in the bottom two. The results show could change structure...

8:00 Recap of previous night/Group performance
8:15 Voting closes after an ad-break/1st Special Guest performance/Bottom Two revealed and voting opens
8:30 After an ad-break the bottom two perform a full length song/Judges give their opinions
8:45 Voting closes after ad-break/2nd Special Guest performance/The eliminated contestant revealed

Would make for a programme with more content spread over and more enjoyable. Plus there would be no fixing from the producers through the judges.

Paint guns, sing-off contestants stand back-to-back, then walk 20 steps to the sides of the stage, turn round, and they fire when Deadlock sounds. The one with the biggest splodge on them goes home. Sudden 'death' exit.

Would be much better but sadly the producers will ignore this idea...at their own peril.
