Hi there, can anybody vouch for the quality of these very reasonably priced cables from tvcables.co.uk? I was thinking of using them to connect my new Widescreen TV and DVD Recorder, instead of using the black plastic ones that come out of the boxes.

There not the best ive seen but they are also not the worst. I think they should do fine for normal applications. I surppose even if they are terrible its only a fiver.

Could you recommend anything better for the price?

I bought some 99p ones from Wilkinsons, and they work just fine.

I've used a couple of these leads in the past, (as well as the cheaper round cable ones), on other people's set-ups, and have had no problems at all with them. They aren't all singing and dancing, but the plugs seems to be very solid and well screened, and the flat cable is definately not the worst I've seen!

Folks,

Any idea how these cables perform over long distances? I need to get (or string a few together to get) a 10m cable.

Do I need to go for super-duper high quality for that distance?

Thanks,

If you're going long distance I'd re-consider the type of cable you want to use, and that depends on what you're using it for.

If you're just sending a feed from a VCR/Freeview box/dvd player to a tv about 10m away then a long scart lead may prove to be expensive and superfluous to your requirements, another option and perhaps far more reliable over long distances is either separate cables:

Individual phono leads for left/right audio and composite video.

Or video sender device:

One box at the vision source, the other plugged into the TV you intend to watch.

So they'd be fine for my Philips 28PW6518C and Pioneer DVR220S then?

No problem. 10 metres is a standard length for scarts.
Don't expect wonders from a £10 cable but any price above £50 is a con trick.
This Lindy cable looks like a bargain.
