So, the big day will be upon us this time next week. Despite the state that the show is in right now, I'll definitely be tuning in. Will this be the show's most highly rated offering in years or will it disappoint? As far as I can remember, the show's last highest rated ep was 9.9m for Mark Wylde's murder. Will it surpass this figure or hover about the 8m mark?

Personally, given the weather at the moment and the time of year that we have, I'd be expecting over 10 million to tune in (on average) with a peak of about 10.5...

Bit ambitious I think. Corrie Live managed an official figure of 14.7 million back in 2010. Can't see Emmerdale touching that.

I reckon it will hit around 9 million for the live episode, maybe 10 at the very most.

8 mil at best. Emmerdale probably has the least casual viewers of all, I reckon it's why their ratings are so solid.

Well if Corrie and EastEnders both got around 15 million viewers. I don't see why Emmerdale won't reach 12-14 million viewers. I think alot of people would tune in to find out who dies.

The thing is, EE and Corrie both already had extra attractions to help produce impressive figures. Corrie had the tram crash itself, and EE had the whodunnit reveal. Both shows were already drawing in big crowds building up to these events. As it stands though, Emmerdale has no hype about it whatsoever. I personally didn't even realise the anniversary was next week until yesterday.

Therefore, I'd go for around 10 million max.

I've said this elsewhere ages ago, but I genuinely think the live episode might not even be the highest rated Emm episode of the week. It feels like the promotion of there actually being a LIVE episode - apart from a hushed, rapid mention at the end of the latest trailer - has been dreadful. It also doesn't have the benefit of being buffered by the other soaps - it's literally on its own on Wednesday night.

As a result I think the Monday episode or Thursday will be the highest. It has been promoted as "starting Monday 15th" after all. But the effect of the live episode (those who watch) should see a bounce for Thursday.

I really really hope it's over 9 million. But no soap is getting this. Emmerdale at its best with its biggest stories climaxing, never actually beats the other soaps. Not to say it never does well, but even when it gets blinding ratings, the other two will be ahead (clashes aside). At the moment it's no further behind the other soaps than normal, ratings are just down in general.

So I think maybe 8.5 million. Which would still be brilliant (under current circumstances) and enough to beat certain EE/Corrie episodes that week, Which pretty much never happens.

Of course if it all goes wrong from the start in a spectacular way we could be looking at astronomical ratings for all the wrong reasons

But I'm saying 8.5. It could be less depending on the Monday and Tuesday episodes.

15.6m (overnight figure) is what EastEnders got for theirs - I can't see it matching that. To get 15m it would need to add about 10m viewers on to its current figures which would never happen in a million years.

10m should be achievable given the boosts Corrie and EE had.

In fact I can't believe so many are saying over 9 million - when was the last time Corrie or EE (the bigger - not better mind you) soaps got that? Hardly ever (if at all) for months. Why would Emmerdale suddenly get that? If it gets over 9 million next week that means it will likely end up the most watched soap episode that week, maybe even the most watched show! This never ever happens so it's hardly going to happen now.

I would love that to be wrong, but as if!

Exactly how is 10 million achievable when it last achieved that in.....? Well god knows? The ratings aren't bad but it's hardly at its absolute best.

I can't wait for the whole thing and would love it to achieve ratings it hasn't seen for years or even a decade, but I don't think so...

9.5 million average, 11 milli peak. It doesn't feel like there's that much buzz for it.

oh JARK even 9.5 mil would be incredible though.

I feel like if its gets 9 million people will be branding it a flop - which is a JOKE.

But when was the last time EE and Corrie had 13m+ before their live episodes in 2010?

There is obviously an appetite for this sort of thing.

I do agree with your earlier post about the promotion not being as strong though.

I wouldn't call a figure of 9.5m a flop, I would call less than late 8s a flop, surely it can increase by at least 2m?

I thought this, but as someone said earlier, there doesn't really feel like a massive build-up to the live ep, unlike what the other two had (though it is considerably better at the moment than it has been) plus Emmerdale is always the one that doesn't always flourish during big events in the way the other two do. As someone else said, it always remains consistent regardless of what's going on and sometimes even during massive events its ratings can remain on a steady line. And then there's the promotion.

It got an overnight of 6.75(?) last night. It needs to add 2 million somewhere. The other soaps aren't getting this at the moment half the time. So we're basically asking Emmerdale to be the most watched soap of next week - this NEVER happens, ever, surely? I bet it wasn't even the most watched during the plane crash despite the record high it got.

If it got dead on 9 million that would, most likely, make it more watched than any EE or Corrie episode next week. 99% unlikely I would have thought (and I repeat, I really want to be wrong).
