I don't know. In the old days, Jimmy and Matthew were pretty evil and Carl was really nice. Nowadays Carl is more like Matthew and Jimmy's turned into the nice guy.

He always had a bit of a dark side, but even when he helped cover up Paul's death, he wasn't evil and nasty like he is these days. After Paul fell and died, Carl was throwing up, crying, terrified and was in bits for weeks afterwards. The Carl on Emmerdale nowadays probably wouldn't even care. He's turned into Matthew.

It's more the fact he's suddenly become an absolute c*nt overnight in order to move this whole Chas storyline forward. Kicking Nicola and Jimmy out, really? It's laughable. But for once in Emmerdale this year it's been totally watchable, so I'll forgive it.

Its totally watchable atm because Tom Lister is absolutely amazing , if he is the one whos leaving ,Emmerdale have a huge gap to fill in my opinion

He is pretty brilliant at it, to be fair, credibility of the sudden change aside. And him and Chas together are electric. The whole thing is ludicrous but it's suddenly made Emmerdale great to watch again

Carl did used to be a nice guy, but when he killed his dad, it messed with his head, and he decided that there would be no more Mr. Nice guy after Matthew had Grace killed.

I think Chas having an affair with Cameron has tipped him over the edge, in his mind Chas getting with Dan was just her way of delaying reuniting with him. Chucking Cameron in the mix has genuinely hurt/shocked him.

I think you're right. Seeing Grace die in front of him seemed to make him flip completely.

Carl hasn't been a "nice guy" for years though. His nastiness has been ramped up lately but it's hardly an overnight change.

Personally I don't care how 'evil' the writers try and make Carl, just for the sake of their storyline, I love him anyway and I think he's playing these (scarcely believable) scenes brilliantly.
