DVD Recorder/VHS Combis -Philips DVDVR630

Hi there

I have seen a few threads on this subject before and contrary to what has been said there are quite a few of these combis available. Argos has just reduced one by £100 to £199.99. The one I am looking at is the Philips DVDVR630 and I was wondering if anyone has got this and what they think of it.

Suggest you research thoroughly before buying. I've read tons of "scary stories" regarding Philips DVD Recorders on these forums - enough to put me off ever getting one. Newer ones may be improving but I would doubt a combi-unit such as this would be based on their most recent recorders, especially at that price.

Also, as I'm curious, why you would still need the VHS Recorder in addition to the DVD Recorder?

I need a VHS due to the large amounts of videos i have and won't be replacing on DVD!

I understand some people would be hesitant to buy combis as I suppose if one bit goes wrong then everything will, but for convenience and to save space on the one shelf under my tele it seems a logical choice!
