Chas is a well loved character. She has been the main focal point of the last 6 months, just like John and Moira were before the car accident. Lucy Pargeter spoke about her time on Emmerdale in the past tense in a recent interview. A few cast members spoke about being devestated by this person leaving the show, I imagine she's popular amongst the cast.
Chas has the least potential left out of the 3 main contenders.
If Chas dies it leaves Carl in the frame for the murder, Cain, Cameron, Charity, Jimmy and a number of other people would be after him. We know his kids are back soon, could be for a hospital visit after Jimmy/ Cameron beat him to death, he has the whole house on the market angle, which he could pull and has also sold his shares to Charity, would he get them back? he would have to build his relationship back up with Jimmy, Rodney, Nicola and Edna and to top it off he knows Cameron's secret.
There's too many storylines left for it not to be Carl who dies.
If Chas dies, it leaves Cameron wide open for questioning and no one to back him up, Cain is already on his back and Debbie has her suspicions, Carl knows his secrets, he robbed from his own family via the garage and the pub. He also has Sarah's illness and a new baby to contend with.
If Chas dies, it leaves an opening in the pub as well, which I assume Bernice is going to take. Who gets Chas' half of the pub, probably Dan as he will have married her, which means he can sell it on and make some money.
Chas has the least ties in the village, Diane wants her out of the pub, her son lives in another country and the village is full of her former flames.
If Chas doesn't die, she still has to sell her half of the pub, she will be a suspect in the muder and has the guilt of her affair, but not much else to go on.
