Quote:
“Things are getting spooky this week as ghosts and ghouls take over the Strictly Ballroom. Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly present what promises to be a hair-raising Halloween spectacular as our celebrities face their fears and dance their spookiest steps.

Deciding who was frightfully good, or horrifically bad, the fearsome foursome of Len, Darcey, Bruno and Craig will be casting votes, while viewers take to the phones. And if that wasn’t enough for our celebrities to overcome, they’ll also be performing in a hair-raising Halloween group routine with the professional dancers.”

That's two theme weeks in a row as the previous week is Hollywood.

Oh gawd, we're going to have every week as a theme, aren't we?

This will send the prop count skyrocketing!

Hopefully not!

Actually, Hollywood is so broad it isn't really a theme and I l've enjoyed the OTT kitsch of Hallowe'en week before ...but that's enough!

Haven't they run out of Halloween-themed songs yet? *said in plaintive tone of child in back seat on long journey*

I don't think so, I think this is just a coincidence with where the weeks fall - they've clearly decided to keep Halloween week, and I can see the attraction in making week 3 a theme week as when the show is running for two hours it'd help to grab the viewers' attention. I certainly don't think we'll have themes every week.

And given the lack of props in the first week and this year supposedly being all about the dance, I think the "themes" will have been rethought a bit. So no more Psycho Killer tangos and more Reservoir Dogs quickstep or Shrek jive - storytelling and theming that doesn't get in the way of the dance.

Maybe I'm optimistic, though!

I've qute enjoyed the Halloween weeks but 3 years in a row is pushing it. It does show a lack of imagination.

In recent years most weeks have had a "gimmick" even if not a theme per se. Think of "Jennifer Grey Week" or "Wembley Week" or "Swingathon Week". That's just how the show is now.

I am optimistic about them toning down on the awful comedt VTs, but I am as certain as I can be that there will be props/extravagant staging.

Its much the same as last year.

Its hard to have a themed week without a lot of costume, makeup and props.

Props in themselves are not bad - they just have to help rather than hinder creating the scene.

I have to say, the Halloween week has always, for me, produced the most stunning of all the production photographs. It's the one I enjoy covering the most. The props seem to be most relevant, colourful and fun, and the hair, make-up and costumes are incredible. It's so fab to be able to see the photographs and be able to really look at the detail of it all - the show goes by in such a whirl of screaming camera angles ...

So, any thoughts on songs we haven't used for Halloween yet? "No More Mr. Nice Guy" for a Tango, perhaps?

And for reference, we've never had a Cha-Cha-Cha, Charleston (!), Foxtrot, Salsa or Waltz performed on a Halloween show - maybe they'll try and include some of those this year?

I like themes too, maybe not every week, but I'm definitely looking forwards to Hollywood & Halloween weeks.

Yes, I don't mind the themes, it's just the props and the stupid VTs that I don't like. I just hope Halloween Week isn't too OTT.

I really quite like Hallowe'en Week, especially the costumes and the make up. Could do without the others though.
