P.S What Happened to Brian And the Ponds?
Chris Chibnall apparently wrote a scene to explain this, but it was never shot. But tomorrow, the doctor who website will be bringing the scene to life using storyboards and a voice over by Arthur Darvill!

I hope the Doctor at least introduces Brian to his granddaughter Melody. I think the conversation should go something like this:
Doctor "Brian, I am so, so sorry" {sniffles} Brian "They're dead, aren't they?" Doctor "Yes, well no, sort of, they are trapped back in the 1930's and we can't ever go back for them" Doctor "I do have someone you need to meet though" Brian "Who?" Doctor "Your granddaughter, Melody." River "Hello Grandad." Brian "Your Rory's daughter." River "Yes, its good to see you again." Brian "Again? I don't remember you. Actually my son had a friend called Mels, haven't seen her for a while, was a bit of a nutter really, kept stealing busses" Doctor "Busses???" River "Yeah, that was me, in my last body. And there's nothing wrong the using public transport!" Brian "What do you mean your last body?" River "I was conceived in the Tardis, and then genetically modified by some evil religious types, which makes me the human equivalent of a Time Lord with the ability to regenerate. This is my third body" Doctor "Busses???" River "Oh shut up sweetie!" |

Good god - now that really was emotional, a proper send off to the Ponds, and particularly Rory, I'm so upset they didn't film it...
And this means (presumably) we will never see Brian again

Nice enough if pretty much a repeat of the scene from Blink.
I wonder how Amy's parents get told, is that left to Brian ![]() P.S Dad please tell Amy's parents even though they know nothing about us Time Travelling. |

Watched it at noon. Just starting to recover. Kleenex everywhere.
What an end to the Ponds. That's the proper end for me. |

Argh!!! I'm now crying on the sofa!!
Loved it! And Arthur's narration was perfect - really touching. Really wish they'd filmed that as it's a much more satisfying end to Amy and Rory's story. |

I'd like to think they didn't film it to allow an opportunity for Brian to reappear at some point, even though that's not likely the case.

Its almost a repeat of the scene from Blink! where Kathy Nightingale's grandson arrives at the creepy house with a letter for Sally Sparrow just as Kathy is shot back in time.
I thought Amy's letter to the Doctor was very similar to Kathy's letter. Its a shame this scene wasn't shot - its nice when the show reflects on the repercussions on family and friends of the companions. And Rory's exit - as it was - seemed more of a device to explain Amy's departure, than a respectful end for Rory himself. This ending would have given his exit a bit more oommph! |

I was a bit disappointed to be honest - it was too like the Kathy's grandson thing in Blink.
Besides, if this adoptive grandson could deliver a message to Brian, then the Ponds could deliver messages, so why couldn't they communicate with the Doctor? I still think it was a poor ending for the Ponds. |

It was a lovely scene, but I can see why they didn't use it. Where would it have fitted in the episode? The episode had to end with the scene with little Amelia and I don't see how it could have fitted in before that.....and plus, as Mulett says, it's a very similar scene to one in Blink.
So on balance, I think it was a good editorial decision, even though I would have loved to see it at the same time. |

I think there's a bit of fibbing going on here. Why would Chris Chibnall be writing a scene for the end of a script written by Moffat?
I suspect this is something they've come up with in reponse to all of the cries of "What about Brian?" from fans. |
