They should kill off Jim Branning

Now half the cast are brannings it would be a good time to kill him off, in fact they could use it as a final farewell to Dot too. I cannot see June Brown returning now all her mates have left.

I'm sure the likes of Natalie and Dean would turn up too.

I really hope Dot comes back but I'm not convinced she will now.
It would be best to kill Jim off but Dot would have to be at the funeral. It wouldn't make sense to do it otherwise.

I don't think killing him off will benefit the show in any way to be honest

Agree - there is too much focus on the Brannings at the moment. I do think they should however bring in a new friend for Patrick, or at least another older male character.

June is back at the end of the year, there is still life in Dot yet but I feel she will only have another two years. Its a shame that John Barden has been so unwell not reprise his role as Jim, it would have been good to see Derek and his Father having some scenes on screen.

I think that would give off entirely the wrong message. Many people, my dad included, have strokes and though seem almost irrepairably disabled, make a reasonable recovery. Having him die randomly offscreen would be misleading - I know that the actor didn't feel able to continue and I totally understand that, but writing off the character would, I feel, be wrong.

If 'extra' Brannings didn't return for Bradley's funeral then I don't see why they'd pop up for Jim's, too.

John Bardon is in a very bad way and will not be returning, yet killing him off could be seen as an insult to him and his family. Would have loved to see him interacting with his sons, especially Derek.

I miss John Barden as he was; he was such a good actor.

It's quite upsetting to see him as he is now, because I can sense the frustration in him, that he can't do the things he used to.

I honestly think it would be better to kill him off, or at the very least, replace him with another actor.

It was sad seeing John Bardon during the programme with June Brown.

It was clear that he is now bedbound, and is getting worse than better.

I wouldnt kill him off though.

If and when June Brown leaves, id give her a bitter sweet ending, by letting her go into the same nursing home as Jim, maybe the final scene, could be a shot of Jim and Dot there.

Exactly.

Why are people obsessed with killing characters off

It would serve no purpose...it is realistic that he would be in a nursing home. The Brannings have quite enough drama in their lives as it is.
