It's her hair that is putting me off. It's long and blonde and doesn't suit a woman of her age. Does Tish wear hair extensions for the part? the hair is of a really poor quality.
Gosh, it's almost as though the root problems of the show need to be fixed, instead of throwing old returning characters at the audience and assuming that will fix all.

She may still be finding her feet, the likes of Charlie Brooks and Patsy Palmer were awful when they returned as well, although at least they had OTT storylines I suppose. Letitia is OTT even in the low key stuff.
But once they get Sharon's characterisation right the rest might fall into place.

I do not get this her hair has gone much flatter now and suits her but even if it did not. Not all characters are made to look the best as possible. Wendy Richards was always made to look more dowdy as Pauline and Jessie Wallace is made to look more tarty as Kat. Roy was right about Pat's earrings looking cheap and tacky so glad they came back! Some characters they try to make them look as best as they can but for others they are doing what is in character. Sharon like her mum was always a fan of big hair even when it was short it was big that is in character. If anything they are vying away from that by making it much more similiar to how the actress actually has it by making it flatter.

What also annoys me is the sugary, baby tone in which she talks to Denny and the continual fawning over him. What also grates is that she has made Dennis out to be such a big hero. She doesn't need to tell Denny the full truth about Dennis yet. But why has she has told such a big lie, when actually he was a murdering thug? She moved to the square and expected Denny not to find out the truth. Prince Goldilocks Denny needs a reality check and fairly soon if he's going to survive Albert Square.

That was also driving me mad but we have seen less of "Denny" recently to be fair.

They would be insane to axe Sharon off the back of a rubbish return plot and insta-relationships with the Brannings. It's still early days - have people forgotten what Janine's first year back was like? She was awful and more like Corrie's Tracy Barlow than Janine Butcher. That's the only time (ignoring mid 90s mute Janine) that Janine's depth as a character has not resonated. Kirkwood then restored Janine to her former glory (one of only a few good things he did), Lorraine might do the same for Sharon once we're finally rid of Beedles/Kirkwood for good.

I actually like the fact she calls him Denny. Makes me think of some of the characters who used to call Den Watts that like Pat. I much prefer the references to Den Watts then Dennis Rickman. I also have no issue with her babying him, I have a child around this age and I know mothers who act like that. She also used to do it a fair bit to Vicki (spoilt her rotten too as I recall) when she was young in the 90s so I do not think it is out of character either.
However they need to stop writing her as a B character to validate the Brannings. It is insulting to the character and not plesant for the viewers. As for chemistry those small scenes upstairs in the vic with Phil were electric but instead we get Jack shoved down our throats instead.

I agree with you - I remember how panto Janine was between 2008 - 2009. It was only in 2010 when Janine was restored to her former glory.

Sharon even babied her more when she was younger in the 90s, Grant knew there was a secret he even asked if she was Vicki's real mum. He also thought maybe she did want a baby too as she was so over the top with Vicki. This is in character.
Alot of her fans are put off posting which is why when DS ran that poll of the best EE characters ever she topped it. So it goes to show those who post the most are not necessarily representative of the general consensus. I do know most on the Letitia fan board wont post here period which is a shame because just liking someone should not make you subject to some of the nasty comments directed at you when you do. Luckily I have thick skin and I could not care less what people on a internet forum think if its because I like a character they do not.
