When time for change

Darcy has for me highlighted the weakness (long term) of the judging panel, we have no judge with competitive experience
Len comes across as a man who had most success as a dance school teacher who grew into judging
Our other two male judges appear to have their majority of their experience in dance out of hold and in basic terms freestyle choreographic work
Darcy as been fresh in comment reference composure and individual style
What we lack is judgement and importantly advice to competitors in the technique of how to look commanding with grace in hold
Medal work from dance schools is fine but competitors need both the technical (footwork etc) and the added ingredient of grace, style and pride but minus arrogance in hold, not easy when requiring personality with musicality
Ian highlights the difference both in performance and verbal description of how to achieve, I am not suggesting Ian to replace one of the male judges as he is obviously too busy as a performer but the next change in the panel (IMHO) should be the recruitment of an ex competitor performer turned teacher to competition not medal performers

I think that it would be difficult to have a judge who knows what's required because the other judges would seem inadequate. It would be such an improvement though.

Len was a professional dancer; when he retired from competing he opened his own studios (yes, more than one). He employed teachers to teach beginners, medallists, etc., while he took the advanced and professional dancers, - including many who have been Strictly pros. During this time he also ran his own competitions, and judged others, from the smallest to the largest - i.e the World Championships. And don't forget he was also a regular judge on the old 'Come Dancing'.

You must note that I said [u]Len comes across as a teacher
his comments do not come across as advice a competitive couple could use whereas Ian (ie) does make regular comment that comp couples could adhere to

Comp pairs go to two differing teachers 1) being those they have faith in and 2) those who have gained a place on the judging circuit ??
