The Grumpy Old Women Thread... (Part 18)
Quote:
Plum, you really do have a gift. I suppose it's too much to hope that you've kept a file of your 'columns', but I really wish you had. I can just imagine the book "The life of Plum".
You are a remarkable person, and I know everyone who reads you must wish you the very best for the future. ![]() |

It took me ages to realise I had to do that ![]() Evening all. Got the youngest home for the weekend... I am working my way through infinite machineloads of washing, she's gone out with her mates. There's something wrong with this picture

Similar stuff going on here Sad. Second machine load's about to finish. I'm thinking of changing the locks.

I'm on the PG.
But only because Batman brought me a glass. Otherwise I wouldn't touch the stuff.

I'm back from taxi-ing my very lazy son back to uni. No trains for my little darling. No carrying on public transport of his freshly laundered by mummy clothes. No walking back to halls from the station through the windy streets. Oh no. Why bother with any of that when you can avoid it by giving a daft old woman a big hug and telling her she's the best mum in the world.
He plays me like a fiddle.

RIP Simon, a black and white king amongst cats!
This week got off to a really awful start. I can't remember whether in my ramblings I've told you about Simon? Anyway, he was a cat who sort of adopted LittlePlum and I when we moved in June. We weren't entirely sure whose cat he was if anyones at all but he spent most of his time outside our home and LP named him Simon which suited him admirably. He was obviously old and very thin, and we knew he ate our landlady's cats food, so we used to top that up to try and fatten him up a bit. He was very talkative and used to grumble and mutter on like an old codger telling his war stories! Whenever he saw our car pull up, he'd come from whichever garden he was sheltering in and stomp purposefully over for a chat, a play or a cuddle. Anyway, the day before yesterday he seemed off his food, yesterday we noticed him looking a bit wobbly which started me getting very concerned and decided we would take him to the vet this morning. When morning came though, he was lying with his head in the dirt, with his mouth full of garden bits which he couldn't even summon the energy to spit out .... he was a sorry sight. We knocked on a few doors to see if anyone knew who he belonged to, but no-one did. We took him round to our vet and they confirmed it was a paralysis tick that had got him and in view of his age and general health it really was best to put him to sleep. Even young fit cats are often killed by those ticks so he didn't stand a chance. I agreed with the vet and made the decision - so no more Simon. LP and I were a sorry sight, they must have thought we were a pair of oddbods, crying about a cat that wasn't even ours - although in spirit he was! All this drama before taking LP to school and me going to work. My week can only get better - one hopes!! Not often you get a real tale of woe from me, but this is truly woeful - although having said that we have lots of really good memories of Simon who was a really cool duuuuuude of a cat! When it gets to PG o'clock, I would like you all to raise your glass to Simon who deserved to have his passing noted.

He plays me like a fiddle. ![]() ![]() It reminds me of my mum who used to say of one of my brothers whenever he had got up to some truly awful escapade, "he's an awful boy!" but she said it with such an indulgent smile on her face that it undermined everything she said

I will raise a glass to Simon around 6pm Plummy. Having had a fair share of cats adopting me, I know what fab characters they are and what a big space they leave when they go.

Plummie, so sorry about Simon. Kittehs are people too. Missed the toast, but sending huggles instead.
And PQ - good to see you back. I'm a pretty terrible group member atm myself - can't get to the laptop very easily at home as the decorating is still in progress and we're camping in the spare room, and can't get onto DS on my phone. Gah! Anyway - what passes for normal service should be resumed before too long... In the meantime, cuddles all round (((((((((((((((((((((cuddles)))))))))))))))))))))) Because everyone should have at least the odd cuddle
