Well, it had to be done (again).

Two masterpieces here.
The Class 43 HST and the line built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Paddington to Reading - First Great Western HST - December 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frHQ7eXBbEo

The line built way back in 1838-1840 is capable with relatively minor upgrades of running tilting trains up to TGV speeds (186 mph).

ETA.

Reading - Didcot Parkway Drivers Cab View

Most of the line between Reading and Bristol is pretty well on a curve, but so slight, down to Brunel's engineering, you hardly notice it, which is why tilting trains could make use of increased line speeds.

Must've missed you

I'm just sobering up nicely after a night of perry.

HM, I hope you weren't up all night working on that stuff. Breathe, and remember to take some time out - it takes a while to slow down (Lord knows I understand that) but it's really helpful in keeping the stress levels low.

Hopefully all grumpies are having a good weekend.

I lost some of my belongings temporarily last night, including my tablet, but had them returned by a rather attractive young lady. So, it goes to show there are still honest people about and it really does restore your faith in humanity.

Ironically, the tablet doesn;t actually work and I was trying to get it replaced by the Carphone Warehouse earlier, but hardware damage (a cracked screen in this instance) isn't covered by the warranty it seems. I was actually using one of my Alcatel One Touches to post via their Cloud hotspot.

Poor LL. And yes, I'm still stupidly busy. In fact getting busier. It's Sunday and I'm looking at a stack of paperwork.

Some of last nights shenanigans.

I survived the night without being beaten up or killed.

I was accused of being rude by a barman. He apologised after I threatened to take it to the highest level, via the pub manager (a woman) that apologised on his behalf.

I was told to f*ck off, just for attempting to say to a woman she was very pretty. She wasn't with a bloke or anything like that.

I was told by another woman, I'm too old and don't fit into the place, when the only intention was to ask her 'have you seen my stuff,' which at the time I thought had been nicked. I didn't even fancy her.

And also, the dirty looks from various young females for daring to be alive.

Sometimes I wonder whether I should step out of the front door for my own personal safety.

I felt as welcome as a turd in a punch bowl, just for being a fair bit older than the average punter.

At least I didn't meet that **** Dean.

Most of the blokes were looking and spoiling for a fight.

Some woman was trying to read what I was typing on my smart phone. Btw, who are you, you nosy ****.

Anger management classes for me today.

That sounds like a dodgy pub to me, jra!

((((((laura))))))), bless you
Hope thigs get better soon.

I had a day off yesterday, you'll be glad to learn!
Took Melony and her Boyfriend (oh yes!) to the cinema and saw Monsters University, then ended up chatting to his parents for ages when we dropprd him off. Made a very nice change.
Back at it second half of today and early part of next week, but can see the wood for the trees now. And at least a lot of it is to do with job prospects, which is always nice!

Hugs to batty, keep on slogging on

And I echo laura - Plummie, where be you?
And Amica, too!

Dodgy as dodgy goes.

I'm allowed to look aren't I, at a woman who is basically wearing next to nothing, short of going out in just a bra and knickers.

It does strike me, middle aged old frump that I am, that lasses who let it all hang out should expect some staring. If they don't want folks looking, then the goods shouldn't be on display, as it were.

That's probably not very feminist of me, but there you are.
At my stage of life if I find anyone staring I'm flattered!

There were a couple of women who were so drunk they were dry humping my hand, bumping and grinding it with their arses etc. and not realising it. So, do I remove my hand or leave it where it is?

Guess which option I took.

Ooo, I say!

Well, it's Monday. But I'm refusing to be grumpy. I'm meeting the start of the week head on, having done loads of work yesterday.

And I'm going to nip out a bit later and buy myself a lovely new iPhone. Those who know me well realise what a massive step this is, given my general meh attitude to mobiles. Obviously there's a very strong chance I'll get distracted by something more shiny and that will be that for another 10 years, until I get inspired again to upgrade...

@ handy!

Good luck.

My shopping trip did not go well. I'm completely confused by all the different contracts, and can't choose because some are better here but stupidly expensive abroad and others are... n't.

The next step is to go online.

The step after that is to let someone else decide. I did that with my hair a little while ago and that worked out just fine.

I need a cold shower after the last few days of being on the sess and seeing more very hot ladies than you can shake a stick at.

A is with her parents right now and I'm feeling as horny as a dog with the proverbial two. It's all a bit of an alcohol blur to be fair. The only record is receipts for me to remember essentially what I've been up to.

You'll be brilliant and if they don't hire you it's their loss (and probably means they can't afford you). xxx

As for the bat - remember where she's put a phone???? No chance

Hi Joni. Sorry to others. I think I've been a bit too immersed in my own (little) world recently.

Happy Birthday Sad - hope you have a totally wonderful day and get spoilt rotten

All is OK here, just been working and working ..... and working .... and when I'm not working I'm recovering from working.... or getting ready to work. All work and no play makes for a dull Plum

I'm sure there are stories to tell but my brain is too fuddled to remember any ..... other than last night/this morning's near disaster. YoungPlum opened the car door ready to go to school first thing this morning and was surprised to find my friend's cat curled up asleep on the back seat! She must have hopped in when we got home from getting a takeaway last night - luckily it was a school/work day or she could have been cooked - literally! Fortunately the day hadn't started to heat up and she was fine. Now we'll have to do a Molly check before we shut the car doors!

In UK I always had the notion that the tax-man was kin to the devil himself and it would be better to chew my foot off than have any voluntary dealings with him (or her). However, here they really are awfully nice people, and the customer service skills are second to none. I had a series of lovely chats with them last year, and now again this year. Very bizarre yet somehow warm and fuzzy

Good luck with interviews and stuff Handy - my fingers are crossed! Laura, keep your chin up and I hope they find some way to help you sleep and ease the pain - you've put up with a lot over such a long time, you deserve a break!

Batty, good luck with the phone hunting. I'm thinking of getting myself a new phone as a reward for myself with my tax refund. I want something cool for once. I've never had a decent phone. Not ever! It's always been low on my priority llist, but I want one - I don't need a fancy-pantsy one, I just want one, just 'cos! I probably won't bother though and this time next year I'll still be hating my indestructible hideous pink abomination of a phone. Grrrrr!

I sense that I'm going into a full-scale mega-witter now.... so I'm going to stop before you lot start doubting my sanity, well the few shreds of sanity that are left

Hope you all have a great day, particularly Our Sad who art in England....

Just waiting for Mr Sad to turn up with Chinese takeaway and a night of generally slobbing, to follow a day of... generally slobbing

Happy Birthday Sad. Get it down yer neck!

Talking of drink, I went to see Palace in Scouseland on Saturday, which involved a 5 am start, and no thanks to the odd drink, also falling asleep on the way back as the last train departed my home station. Taxi £35 or wander the streets for 4 hours - which I did once in Brighton after a similarly long day but that was in summer not autumn.
