Glad you're back safely, batty. Sorry about the horse

We're having a super-busy weekend, but so far the best bit has been taking Melony to her first-ever big firework display. Just organised by the village hall committee (not in our village, in the bigger one where M's school is), but the fire was massive, they had a couple of roundabouts, stalls selling hot food and drink, music on a big sound-system (The Who, The Kinks, Madness, The Police...) and of course the main event itself, which was really good.
M was very worried on the way there n case she didn't like the bangs, and quite taken aback by the size of the fire initially, but adored the firework display, the roundabouts and the candy-floss, and voted the whole this 100 out of 10
It even rained just enough to give us that unique Bonfire Night sensation of having a warm dry front and a cold damp back...

I love bonfires, fireworks and hot doughnuts and got all three tonight, so am v. happy (although my insides are protesting about the doughnuts!)

Take her down to Lewes, when she is old enough. It's the daddy really of firework nights.

Watch out for randomly thrown bangers during the procession. It's technically illegally to set off fireworks in the street and the police are only there for crowd control, as the bonfire societies of Lewes have basically said to the police go and do one, if you try to stop our event.

After the street procession you have a choice of about 6 different firework displays to see.

Somebody on here from Lewes suggested which is the best display to watch afterwards. I'll have to dig up the link.

Going to a big Bonfire Night display is one of the things I really miss. For years, my brothers and I and the kids all used to go and watch a local display, my oldest bro always treated everyone to the tickets and my next bro used to make a huge pot of soup and crusty bread to go with it for when we got home half frozen and soaked to the skin some years. Happy days

All plods along here .... had a bit of bother with work this week but I'll get over it. Still working flat out 6 days a week and no respite in sight. However, the upside of it is that I've been able to do some saving and we bought a new fridge/freezer today. At the moment we share one with my friend but really it doesn't leave enough fridge shelf space for either of us, so she said if I wanted to get one, she could make room for it, and we'll need one for when we get our own place eventually, so we bit the proverbial bullet today and splashed out. It arrives Tuesday and will be all shiney and beautiful. Now we just need to stock up on fridge magnets to personalise it

DestructoPup has been strangely well behaved of late. Calm before the storm? I hope not.

handy, I'm loving the 100 out of 10 score - that's my kind of maths!

batty, glad to read that you are back in blighty. There is only so much that you can do, and you do need to look after yourself and your own family unit too.

This week I need to go to the dentist. I have toothache and I've been ignoring it for longer than I should have so I'm going to be brave and go in this week, work will just have to cope without me for an hour or two.

Hope life is ticking along merrily for you all

Your bonfire night sounds wonderful handy. I can just imagine little Melon taking it all in. Magical times.

Plummy - good luck at the dentist! Never fun.

Sunny day here, too, snowy, but windy as all hell. If you'd hung your washing in our garden it'd be halfway to Denmark by now!

Little M's half term hols are over, so everybody back to work and school in the morning. Five am starts, I love 'em! Bah, Pah and huh...

Lewes sounds like fun... maybe in a few years

The sun is shining beautifully here but I am freezing. Heating getting fixed on Thursday. I hope.

Had a lovely weekend which started with a wedding on Friday - and Mr Sad losing his voice by yesterday. Fantastic

I posted some vids of the street procession in other years demonstrating a bit better the banger issue. I'll try and find them for you as a re-link.

It was Handy I was thinking of re the - Melony's a bit young for all the bangers and stuff (she might enjoy the videos though!) ... it's also a bit of a hike for them all. Easier for me and mine so one to bear in mind for the bucket list.

Tonight I am mostly procrastinating, as I have been all day. Have taken a decision to remove myself from a friend's FB page for our mutual benefit. It wasn't easy (I've known her for many years) but sometimes you just have to accept the horse you're flogging is dead... as BG knows only too well

I've outgrown people who use their FB status updates for passive-aggressive shite

Can't find the links.

But dug up this.

Lewes Bonfire Night , November the 5th 2011, Guy Fawkes - Full procession coverage !!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_nZeGW6yU8
Look at 45-60 mins in, for example.

Can you imagine an event like this happening in your own town. H&S are having dozens of kittens and the police are just there.

This event will happen, no matter what, at least for the time being.

Also 1:05 to 1:15 time in.

I had a bleuarrrgggh day at work, but on the plus side have earned some brownie points with my boss so hopefully that will stand me in good stead at some point.

Best news of the day though was the arrival of my lovely shiney new fridge/freezer. It is all clean and lovely and has a beautiful LED light inside the fridge, which I didn't even know about as it wasn't plugged in at the showroom of course. My friend and landlady (they're one and the same of course) is very jealous but I have agreed that if anything happens to me she can have it - which is a good deal for her as if anything happens to her all I get is her iPad and I'm homeless to boot! I keep telling her when she goes off on one of her jaunts into the wilderness that she better leave instructions with the crocs before they eat her on where to post the iPad too - crocs after all have no need for one. I have it on good authority that they're over Facebook etc....

As you can perhaps tell, I'm very tired and losing the plot. I can't go to bed yet as I have a load of washing doing which I need to hang out before bedtime as it's tomorrows work uniform which I forgot about earlier.

Is the LED blue. You haven't lived unless you have at least one electronic device with a blue LED.

To think that not that long ago blue LEDs were only found in things like serious high end hi-fi.

No, it's the internal light so it's white, but it's still beautiful. I do however favour devices with blue LED lights - I'm hoping my kettle breaks imminently so I can justify getting a rather lovely kettle with blue LED. It doesn't cost a lot but I really don't need it, I just want the blue, duuuuuuude!

Big up to Borehamwood for providing a rather good firework display.

Went down there last night with my best mate.
