Could do with some snow.
It might be a snow show for the foreseeable future.

My accent goes slightly Chinese when I say that.

I've been up half the night. Big yawn. We've loads of trees around the house and it sounds like an owl has taken residence in one. Noisy so and so.

Snow is nice. Ice on the other hand makes me slip

I agree with no-snowy!

Not keen on ice either!

My grump today is that I was nearly late for work because the level crossing gates went down as I reached them... and two goods trains and a passenger experss later finally went up again. Total time sitting there waiting... THIRTEEN bloody minutes. Would it have killed the guy, really, to pop the barrier up between trains?????

Elf n safety handy, but to be fair, there have been reports in the papers about loons walking across the line so you can't entirely blame the level crossing operator.

It may not be possible to raise the barrier between trains, due to health and safety reasons (as KJ alluded to), but better to be safe, rather than sorry. 13 minutes is a long wait though. At least you were sensible and patient about the matter, rather than becoming (yet) another statistic.

A rather unfortunate incident in the UK.

General points, not at you handy.

Kids nearly get hit by train
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LduIhosnyrU
(This was in Australia. Contains strong language.)

If you don't respect how dangerous trains can be, if you are an idiot and take risks with them, you'll die. It is as simple as that.

Never ever cross a railway line, unless it is an 'approved route' and even then be spatially very aware.

Always stand behind the yellow lines. Always, no matter how safe you might think it is.

If you are drunk or on drugs, be especially careful when using trains.

Never ever stick your head out of a train window when it is on the move, unless decapitation floats your boat (or should I say train).

Most people, it seems, killed on our railways, are not actually passengers on the trains, but suicide attempts, drunks/drugged up people, those playing chicken on the line, level crossing abuse etc.

KJ and jra, I do know the reasons for it, but one of the stretches of line between us and the next signalling point is really long and if you time it wrong (as I did yesterday morning) and catch three alternating trains it doesn't half add up. Specially when you're five minutes into a forty-mile drive!

ETA - one of the buggers on the old wheel-operated signal-box (not the electric barriers at the station, we have three level crossings, one on each access road!) has been known to put the gates down and go off for a slash! I've stopped using that route in the mornings as I really did nearly run up the steps and throttle the sily sod on morning! Not good for the blood pressure at all!

Anyhoo - gates were up this morning and I sailed through and all was well!

Hugs to grumpies

Speaking as one who went to bed at 3.45am I can't possibly comment

Morning fellow grumpers. I am experiencing the mixed blessing of a postponed appointment this morning - on balance, while we very much need the income at the moment, I am grateful for the breathing space and rather fancy doing some housework. The fact that I have a mountain of paperwork about to topple off my desk may have some bearing on this unusual desire

Oh yes, I know that feeling so well. Quite often, the more I have to do for work the cleaner my house is.

I'm soooooo knackered today and finding it really hard to focus, which is a bit of a bummer. So I'm going to make a big list of everything that needs doing, then I'm going to categorise stuff, and then I'll prioritise the categories. In Excel. Using lots of colours. It's either that or clean the windows.

We all need our wees, unless you want them to pee into a bottle, so obviously s/he has to put the barrier down while having a pee.

On another note (hypothetical situation, as you shouldn't be there in the first place). If the only course of action in order to avoid being hit by a train is to lie down between the tracks, do it so you are facing the train, so as to minimise the chances of your clothing being caught. London Undergound has specially designed pits under the tracks at many stations, which allow you to do the above.

Do not try this at home.

What's all this about.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...3&postcount=17

I've not even posted in that thread, nor do I know the person concerned, nor do I remember seeing them post in any thread.

That's the second occasion I've found, that I've been referred to in a thread I've never posted in. The other culprit has been informed by PM not to do it again.

Actually, it was 3 threads, but two of the members are Inactive, one maybe just for the time being. The third person is still a 'Forum Member', so has been informed of the current situation.

In other news. I was out pubbing again last night and this bloke started up a conversion with me. He was OK initially, but as he got more and more pissed, started getting a bit arsey and criticising my musical tastes, even though he liked the toons initially (when I was logged into 'The Cloud' and he was listening via headphones connected to one of my smart phones). Figure that one out. So, I basically told him to go and do one. Another bloke he was talking to, told him to eff off and the bar staff wouldn't serve him.

Well, he was being a bit of a t***t.

It's either that or clean the windows.
Cleaning the windows could be dangerous as whilst it might remove a potential task from your beautiful spreadsheet ( I feel a musical coming on "Batgirl and the Amazing Technicolour Spreadsheet" - or has that been done before?! ) , potentially it could add a whole list of outside world related tasks which you notice while cleaning the windows. Dangerous stuff!

Here I am building up to a weekend..... yes a whole weekend off - two days .... in a row ... a Saturday and a Sunday on consecutive days. Haven't done that since early July. Strange stuff!!

First I have to get through today without being assaulted and abused by deranged customers after frozen poultry. I'm a very patient person but even my patience is wearing a bit thin.

Plums, I'm curious. Do you perceive a direct link between mental capacity and the desire for frozen poultry? Interesting concept.
Meanwhile, I'm so tired my brain's come out. *bibble*

Cuddls to the insomniacs..... zzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm not entirely sure about the link but perhaps further study is warranted. I sort of imagine it to be like a smoker deprived of nicotine that they must have the poultry fix .... and they are scared that if they don't they will be forced to go cold turkey!

I think on that lame note (which is making me giggle more than perhaps it warrants) I should go to work. Sleep well my grumps
