Wotcha Snowy Just packed the eldest off on a ten day jaunt to the highlands. About to clear up the debris - I may be gone some time.....

I used to go up to the Highlands when I was a youngster every year for 5 weeks for the summer holidays - other people came back from hols with tans, we came back with mildew

All is plodding along here, but with some possible improvements on the horizon, so some grumpy good vibes would be awesome. My supervisor had a word with the store manager who then asked me to come and see him and we had a bit of a chat about my situation, and we've agreed that I'll give doing some nightfill a couple of nights a week a go in addition to my usual job, and if it works out then he'll give me more permanent hours. It's going to be knackering doing split shifts and a couple of nights a week I'll probably only get about 4 hours sleep but the peace of mind of improved finances will hopefully outweigh the downsides. Just got to iron out the details with my supervisor and the department manager as I'll effectively be working for 2 different teams but hopefully it should work! The manager came up to me today and said to make sure that I'm happy with what they want me to do and to stick up for myself - which I thought was kind.

Apart from that nothing interesting is happening, it's the school holidays. YoungPlum is at home watching movies and reading books at an alarming rate! Good thing though is that she's got to the stage now where I really enjoy borrowing her books She had her best ever school report for the last two terms. Her teacher is a really lovely chap and seems to have finally brought her out of her shell at school and they're seeing the real Plum. I've always said to her that the overall grade doesn't matter to me, as long as the effort is "commendable" , and her report was full of that and good grades too.

I sent YoungPlum a text from work the other day reminding her to make her bed to which she replied "i'll give it my best shot but remember that my Making the Bed Learning Support is still ongoing" - she's full of it, a chip off the old block

Well done to SadJunior(Senior) on his results, and hopefully SadJunior(Junior) will do well too!

Hello, guys!
No word on jobs/interview here yet, though apparently the place I've applied to have called up my references, so fingers crossed please!
Plum, I really hope your job stuff works out. Being financially precarious is not nice. Fingers crossed for you

And Yay for Young Sad!

This week has been utterly frenetic - Sports Day for me and Melony on two different days, two school trips on two different days, M's School Fair and gymnastics. Blimey!

What happened with the fish, KJ...?

My regards to Mr M, the fish fitted in the freezer eventually, MrsKJ did not realise how full it was I think.

It's a shame most fish has to be (partly) frozen in order to get onto your plate without going off, as freezing kills the taste. I do miss the days when I caught my own sea fish and they were served within hours of being caught. A fresh unfrozen mackerel tastes as good if not better than any trout you'll get in a restaurant and they are pretty easy to catch with a metal spinner or rubber eel. Fresh unfrozen plaice is just in a different league to what you normally get in a restaurant, but not so easy to catch. One way to do it is dangle a weighted spoon with a lugworm attached to the hook and row with the tide, dragging the spoon behind along the sea bed on a sandy bottomed area. The plaice thinks the spoon is a small plaice and tries to steal the worm, getting hooked up in the process.

Garfish make good eating, but are very boney, and weight for weight give a very good fight, sometimes skimming on their tails out of the water and even on occasions juming into your boat. They look like little swordfish.

Still biting our nails here as Little Saddette's results won't be known until Friday.

Making the most of our last week without the herberts at home - Mr Sad and I treated ourselves to Sunday lunch at our local and walked it off with the aging Sad dog later. I've finally de-junked Little Saddette's bedroom (no mean feat, I can tell you) and am looking forward to concentrating on work this week. Yes, really

Great job news is still only a theoretical great job news, as department manager A and department manager B, don't seem able to communicate - so HumbleMinion C is left crying in the middle I'm sure it will get sorted out, patience is apparently a virtue.

Fingers crossed for Sadette's results!

I was woken up by the sound of laughing seagulls. Most peculiar. It's going to be an odd day.

Batty - with my geek hat on, your laughing seagulls are probably kittiwakes.

I'm kittii-wake myself; just about to eat a sandwich and watch some telly to get my mind off stuff.
Interview tomorrow - great prep, eh?
