jra - I've never done it late. My own tax return yes, on occasion (the dog ate it, if anyone from the IR is reading), but in all the years of VAT-ing it, I've always met the deadline. We've been on a flat rate for a while now so there really are no excuses... but it's never my favourite thing to do so the kitchen floor wins every time anyway.

I know the feeling. I'd rather be doing just about anything else, than filling in a tax return.

The January deadline is looming large. I need to get myself a dog that looks capable of eating a laptop.

You should technically still need to do a standard tax return every year. Maybe the HMRC haven't caught up with yet.

I know the underlying feeling is not funny, but that really made me laugh

You need to borrow DestructoPup - she can chew through anything, all you need to do is leave it unattended on a table at DP browsing height, which is anything she can reach her paws up to standing on hindlegs, so that includes most tables and workbenches She may be destructive but on the plus side she is very reliable when it comes to destruction - and she does it with a smile and a big waggy tail. What more could you ask for in a domestic employee.

I'll send you my mutt... this morning he attacked a Christmas card someone dared push through the letterbox and tried to eat the postman too. Sad thing is I know that given the chance to get at him he'd only wee on his foot anyway

I eventually finished the essay, an hour before the deadline so not sure what I was panicking about Got another due in on Monday so I really should start that at some point I suppose... and shhhh let's not talk tax returns I'm ignoring mine until after Christmas!

The postman would wee on your dog's foot? That's outrageous!

Well done on the completed essay and good luck with the next one!

DestructoPup is a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Staffy cross.

Re tax returns, the only tax return that I have ever done ever anywhere is here in Australia this year. For me it was quite an enjoyable experience as I got all my tax back

Nothing exciting happening here, or if it has I've forgotten about it - I'm getting old and feeble minded

I love Rhodies - used to know one called Zeus quite well. Well enough for him to park his bum on my lap whenever I sat down (front paws on the floor - Zeus obviously, not me).

DestructoPup has recently discovered that she can jump onto the outside dining table and sit in the middle of it. Why she would want to, I don't know, and I don't think she does either as she generally looks a tad bemused when she's up there. I'm trying to discourage her but if all else fails I'll stick a bit of tinsel on her and call her the table centre piece

Seriously we do wash down the table regularly and i'm hoping that it's just a phase that she'll grow out of

Work today was seriously pants but that's pretty much par for the course. I got told off though but I won't lose any sleep over it. My job is going to disappear in a few weeks anyway.

Pfffft - I'm grumpy now. I went to have a look at that book and also saw that CJ Sansom's Winter in Madrid is 20p but then I remembered my kindle had to be locked to the USA site amazon.com and it's not cheap there.

What a shame Plummy. I love these Kindle bargains (far too much!).

And I now need to know the guinea pig and bat stuff.

P.S. Poor Mr M.

Believe it or not I have only just discovered the wonder that is Mendeley - so makes referencing a breeze... well it'd be even easier if I took the time to learn it properly but the basic stuff I do with it is easy in itself

Here I'm done with Christmas... been working in a school kitchen this week and I've served enough turkey and heard enough Christmas songs to last me till next year

I learned about this from the book:
http://www.theworld.org/2011/09/rent...n-switzerland/
Switzerland has an unusual animal welfare law that protects “social animals.”

We now have one piggy , and she didn't like any of the potential chums we introduced her to, so we'd end up in Swiss jail.

Booked it - hope to learn more about other species too.

Weather very bleurgh here - and OH is snoring in the other room - just a nap allegedly.

I have almost finished the Crimble shopping but I need to get wrapped and delivered too before we jet off to the sun - can't wait!

The dog is having a mmad half hour and keeps trying to wake OH up with licks and pawing - perhaps he doesn't like the snoring either.

Can't believe I've had a week of my hols already - time flies when you're enjoying a lay in.

Almost wine o'clock - huzzah!

Gosh, we lived in Switzerland for a while and never knew this. Doesn't surprise me, though. The Swiss are very into making laws for all kinds of situations, or so I was told by my Swiss neighbours. And we did almost end up in a Swiss jail. Well, Batman almost did. Not that it was an *all kinds of a situation* - he was caught speeding a tad and the police officers (I say police officers, but they couldn't have been much older than 12) called a judge (I kid you not) and he set a massive fine that had to be paid on the spot. As luck would have it, the speed trap was right next to a cashpoint.

Our neighbours told us later that it's a normal thing and that most Swiss living up our mountain would've taken one night in jail instead. You live and learn...

In other news - the bat family have grown by one, thanks to Sad. He's small, stuffed and very cute. In my extremely tired state I believe that makes perfect sense.
