Ranting is totally allowed, specially about things like that. God, people are so childish! *tsk*

Sports day was lovely and non-competetive - lots of activities in which everyone took part to earn points.

Swimming today after Melony finishes at school. Too hot for anything else! *is hiding in the kitchen*

Here too snOwy!

Far too hot to be up ladders, so I'm starting early(ish), hoping I'll get done in reasonable time, then I can enjoy a cool glass of PG in the garden as a reward.

Are you feeling any better today Snowy? Summer colds are awful.

It's been a thunderfest with a wee bit of lightning thrown in here today and then the sun came out but it's much cooler now.

SP: How did it go with Sadette's cheering squad? Your rant was understandable for the treatment she got. I hope it all works out after all the years of work she's put into it.

Hey BG, Handy and Amica and KJ ! And where's Laura been. Has anyone heard from her? I hope she's ok. No sign of Plum lately either......

After a very busy week and weekend I am now officially on holiday - which today means laundry and housework, and tomorrow back into work for tidying and planning. No peace for the wicked...

Hope you all have a productive Monday

Yay for holidays!

I'd like one too.

The weekend was spent up ladders, mainly, and cycling to get some fresh air after all the paint fumes. Today is a 'desk day' I hope, not that I'm looking forward to it but things are beginning to stack up a bit!. Oh, to be in two places at once!

What's a holiday?

This week while Mr Sad has been sunning himself in Spain with his ma I have mostly been a glorified cab driver for the youngest. Her neck and back seem fine to me but seem to be preventing her from driving (she hasn't passed her test yet so I'd have to go everywhere with her anyway).

There was a meeting with the coach and the air was cleared between the youngest and the people with issues. I am just going to be glad when next weekend is out of the way (big cheer competition). At least they have changed the stunt from which she fell, so she will be doing something different and hopefully this means the experience can be put behind all of them.

As a parent I have all sorts of issues with the safety (or not) of this sport which seems to be less well regulated than you would expect... maybe because it's only grown in popularity in recent years?

Anyway thanks for tolerating my rant I was so bloody angry!

Catching up with my desk and house today while juggling taxi services and a strong desire to go back to bed. Not sure how much longer I can function on so little sleep.

Also subdued as my former boss has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and is not at all well. Things seem to be happening very fast. Been to visit but an awful sense of saying goodbye. She was at the start of her retirement, a wonderful lady who always worked harder than a person should and never smoked or drank - so slow down, lovely GOW, please xx

Hope LL is well though never a good sign when she vanishes. Also concerned that the Plumster is AWOL for so long... big hugs to any of you lurking who like me feel a tad overwhelmed with it all at times. ((((((((GOW))))))))

I was wondering about cheering in the UK. It's been around for generations in the US. They're used for half-time entertainment for sports teams (mostly basketball and American football) and to lead cheers and chants during the game. "Push 'em back, push 'em back, waaay back." Do they support teams in the UK, too? I tried out for cheer-leading when I was in high school but was rejected because I was too small and because I was wanted for the band. (The coaches for both things made behind the scenes deals for their respective squads.) So there was little me playing this huge glockenspiel, wearing a ridiculously unflattering, rather masculine looking uniform but was at least warmer than the cheerleaders during the games with their short skirts (with bloomers (knickers) attached) , sweaters, bobby sox and saddle shoes. There were times that I would have rather been freezing but looking cool and getting the sports player's attention.

Just off to bed me@ but here's a link to the video they're promoting the next comp with - it shows the whole range but essentially although some of the university teams do the whole pom pom thing at matches, mostly it's all about these competitions.

Now that's positivity!

Sad, I'm like you at the moment, wondering how I'm getting around on next to no sleep. But there's so much to do!

Actually, I could ease off a little bit, but I'm trying to get ahead.... Makes sense to me. Kind of.

So sorry to hear about your ex boss. Sounds like healing vibes won't be enough.

Hi me@h, I hope you had a good 4th of July.
i
Thanks KJ but it's become a non event for me over the years, same as with Thanksgiving. I'm not a very celebratory kind of person anyway so I just go with whatever is the custom in whatever country I'm living in for holidays.

Just off to bed me@ but here's a link to the video they're promoting the next comp with - it shows the whole range but essentially although some of the university teams do the whole pom pom thing at matches, mostly it's all about these competitions.

I checked it out. It seems like it's more dancing and gymnastics than it was in my day. Oooh! Check me out saying "in my day". Sure sign of getting old.

Thanks much appreciated
Good to see you pop in Laura. How have you been?

Enjoying a peaceful the day with the place all to myself after two days of Mr. Home's days off. Why do some weekends seem longer than others. We did have a laugh last night though when we we got off the train at Alexanderplein (for those of you who know A'dam) which is two streets away from us. It's a very busy crossing there with cars and bicycles showing pedestrians no mercy. After we crossed safely I heard shouting and cursing "godverdomme" (God dam me) which sounds like "hotfordumma" but with a lot of throat and spit going into the "hot" part. Anyway it was this man in a suit on a bike who had a leather bag containing a laptop on his shoulder and was trying to balance a large, boxed floral arrangement in back of him and his bicycle saddle broke. He was "hot, hot, hot-ting" over and over again after he'd pedal a couple of turns and it all went wrong with the bike, the box and his bag. We stopped and walked back to help him. Mr. Home had figured out that if he got on the bike with his bag and pedalled a bit to get momentum he would run after him and hand him the box in a synchronized movement. It was so comical and the continuous "hotting" had me laughing so hard (but trying to hide it) that I nearly had a Tena lady "oops"moment. Actually we both did. The man finally got on his way and we didn't see any sign of him except the trail of water leaking from his box up the road. We laughed all the way home and were still laughing when we got in the house. There were tears rolling down our faces! A few hours later Mr. Home said goverdomme out of the blue and we started all over again. I actually have slightly sore stomach muscles today from all that laughing.

On a serious note, my HD neighbour went missing for most of yesterday. I didn't know because we were out but came home to a message from his friend about it. He finally showed up at his home safe but this is a worrying new turn. A few of us are quite concerned about how bad he's looking, smelling and walking these days. He doesn't even recognize some of us any more and has stopped saying "hello" and just walks down the street talking to himself. We're going to organise a meeting with his care worker about it.

A nice wicker chair has appeared in the garden overnight. The neighbours with the babies always seem to find the most magnificent stuff in the trash so that's where I think it came from. It's comfy, too.

Hugs to all GOW here, there and everywhere. xx

Hope you're okay. (((LL)))

me@ - memories flood back when you talk about Amsterdam. I still miss it, even the crazy bike stuff. What a worry about your neighbour, though - dementia?

handy - pop Word up, put a nice soft pillow on the keyboard and see what he comes up with by midnight.
