Hello, lovelies!
i have been flitting about all over this week with Melony - swimming lesson on Tuesday, park day with friends yesterday, play-centre session with Grandad today. Not sure which of us is more exhausted! It's lovely to have her around but I do rather miss being able to spend days buried up to my ears in sorting work stuff out and then emerging to binge-watch box-sets and stuff my face with junk food. Hey-ho - I shall be looking back nostalgically on her childhood soon enough and I shouldn't moan! snowy, hope your head is improving. Hugs to everyone! me@h, just to endorse what the others have said, you have done as much as you can and he needs professional help now. he is much more likely to get that if the rest of you all report your concerns to the relevant authorities and then back off... Sending Plumhugs Down Under and apologies for the current cricket score but I'm rather loving it...

I miss those play-date years handy. The boy and a mate have just driven off, having fleeced me quite comprehensively of all readily available cash, and I probably won't see them now until very, very late... It seems like 5 minutes ago I was taking them to the cinema and for pizza. *deep nostalgic sigh*
Glad you're better snOwy. ![]() I'm in an irritated mood after talking to a cousin who is a complete pain in the arse. Unfortunately for me, I seem to have somewhat inherited him, so when I see him sleepwalking into problems I feel the urge to point it out. He, on the other hand, has absolutely no intentions of lifting as much as a finger to help himself and gets quite cross if I suggest anything practical. Almost certainly on the Asperger's spectrum and most definitely not helped by parents who brought him up to consider himself the centre of the universe, but he's a middle aged bloke now and putting his fingers in his ears and humming loudly won't help with those very real problems of adult life, like money. Sad's met him. He's helpless and impossible to help. And I've no idea what's going to become of him, long term.

Morning all!
![]() Oops, no, afternoon - just! batty, you have my sympathies but at the end of the day... we've had this conversation before and I know there's no easy answer, but you have done as much as you can and more than most would. Some folks you just can't help... ![]() Back up to York for us today - Mr M wants to buy my birthday presents and Melony wants to go to the railway Museum. Meanwhile, I have a personal appointment with a curd tart from Betty's while they're at the shops... ![]() Have a nice weekend, all

Did someone mention Betty's?
![]() Mmmmmmmm cake.... Today has been quite a day. Mr Sad has bought a car. Last managed this thirteen years ago (he doesn't like change ) but has been forced into accepting that the old rustbucket is no longer economically viable to resuscitate. So he's the proud owner of a 57 plate automatic petrol version of, essentially, the same car. But it was a bargain and has only done 40k so he's happy ![]() And I've blagged a free ticket with three mates to see UB40 playing in our local park tomorrow night so all's right with the world. Apart from a decided lack of cake... and general food withdrawal since returning from Warsaw ![]() So... when can we all get to Betty's this summer?

Funny you should say about UB40 Sad, we were talking about them at work the other day - they're playing in Cairns in November apparently and a group of us might go.
I've just had the weekend from hell - it was totally horrible but ended well - although it took a 13 hour day today to make it end well - I've had way too much coffee, to keep me buzzing along - and i'm probably going to pay the price tonight. We're really short-staffed over the next couple of weeks more so even than usual, so i'm having to work next weekend as well - the upside though is that because this is my short week (I'm only meant to work 3 days) - I'll only be working tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday - the downside is that as per the current roster, I only have an imaginary team working under me next weekend, they are just known as Fillers 1-4 ... or the Filler Bros as I now know them, they're quadruplets, but not identical ... I think the management are starting to worry about me it's probably about time they did The house inspection went well - the property manager is from London too, so is clearly awesome! We had a good natter, DestructoPup wanted to be best friends in her over enthusiastic way ... and totally ignored all my rather hopeful commands demanding good behaviour - ho hum! Going to do some more work on the garden this week and some more unpacking of boxes. I got rid of the tower of empty boxes that was up to the ceiling by the front door - I sort of miss it - it had become a room feature! Speaking of features we saw a 3 foot red zebra for sale on gumtree - I have no idea why but it seemed a very good idea to buy it for our room without furniture - fortunately, for a change, good sense has prevailed and our room has no zebra. I have to stay away from Gumtree ... or remember to focus on couches... not zebras It's not even a nice red zebra .. it's just bizarre I'm clearly losing the last of my marbles - oh woe! Not much else to report other than El Horriblo is maintaining her bandido persona and is still on a grand theft crime spree, last nights focus being on wooden spoons, a toilet brush and the bathroom mat. Will she ever grow up? Will I ever grow up? I want to go to Bettys - cake - yum! |

Anyone's welcome so long as you're essentially old and grumpy... although this is also a refuge for younger, less grumpy but slightly bonkers individuals. The admission criteria were stated when the thread was formed back in the mists of time but have always been slightly fluid. I think the one thing we're all agreed on is no personal attacks...
Today I am mostly catching up with housework, washing, mowing... before my lift arrives to take me to see UB40 tonight. I can't wait That is not a grump...My grump is that Little Saddette has yet to lift a finger to sort the cesspit aka her room out, and the deadline I imposed for so doing is tomorrow. Any (legal) suggestions for suitable retribution welcome. Bear in mind she's 21, lives here rent free and tidying the room is literally the only thing we expect of her for a variety of reasons I won't bore you with. So far I've considered refusing to do any more washing/taxi-ing/cooking but these all backfire for the same variety of reasons. I need something that will inconvenience her without impacting on the rest of the household. Over to you, my evil genius comrades ... I was going to move out, but don't see why I should (and we can't throw her out, either). |

Send her to Coventry - works for us with my similar individual. Drives him mad. All you are permitted to say is, "Please tidy the room which you occupy in our home." Or similar. And you can nod or shake your head to request/questions.
Alternatively, buy a door shaped blind with a picture of a tidy room on it and ignore what is behind. Provided you don't get rats what's the harm? Or invite her friends for a sleepover and shame her into it. *waves to all grumpies: old, new and lurkers |

Sad, Sad, Sad!!! She's 21. Laundry??? Rent free??? Dirty room???
I think we need to talk! We might need a GOW intervention. You have my full permission to get a bit tough and threaten some deprivation to her cushy life. Please, someone else tell SP that it's ok to play "bad cop". ![]() Hope you're enjoying UB40. Mr. Home went to see them a couple of months ago with his work mates and they're still talking about it. Apparently the show brought out their wild side and he didn't get home 'til 5 am. Welcome Rough Diamond. That was a suitable grump to start off with and hopefully you'll learn from us old timers how it's really done if you hang around. Joy and happiness are also occasionally permitted although they're not in the T&Cs.![]() Summer has returned and I'm making the most of it. I've spent most of the day outside. There's someone across the way in the back who's really cutting some zzzs right now and I can't believe how loud he is. He does this every night and I'm wondering if he's been exiled to sleep in his garden because his snoring was disturbing his household. Now he's just disturbing the whole neighbourhood. ![]()

Morning grumpies, not sure why I go to bed
Me@ I have tried all sorts to get his Lordship to help and it falls all on deaf ears drives me nuts I have even threatened to throw him out to no avail never changes yet its only being since I have been poorly that he had behaved this way, teenage years where a breeze now I'm paying for it. |

Alternatively, buy a door shaped blind with a picture of a tidy room on it and ignore what is behind. Provided you don't get rats what's the harm? Or invite her friends for a sleepover and shame her into it. I did wonder about confiscating her mobile. It's conveniently packed up today so under normal circumstances there would be a simple trade off - tidy the room or no I won't run you into town to get a new one sorted. Unhappily she also sprained her ankle badly last night and can't walk on it so we may be going to A&E instead... and she can't possibly tidy up... Me@ - you just need to trust me when I say this has evolved for a variety of reasons - yes, it's getting beyond the pale but on the plus side she could be far, far worse - she is at least working, albeit part time, and beginning to reduce the student overdraft. As an aside, why has no-one ever taken the banks to task for calling an overdraft one's 'available balance' instead of reminding you that it's a debt??? Today's grump - why do neighbours order massive (tea chest crate sized) parcels for delivery on a day when they are out, and say it's ok to leave with a neighbour, without even having the decency to ask first? I really resent having my gentle and somewhat hungover Monday morning interrupted by FedEx when it's not even for this household... grrrr.

Sad, put dog poo under her bed. If you can find her bed!
Welcome RD. Tell me more about your new kitchen. I'm on the cusp of redesigning my one. Well, I've been on the cusp for a couple of years now, but I'm inching closer and closer! Hearing about your one might be the final push I need. ![]() Plummy - you're definitely bonkers. ![]() handy - your York day out sounded lovely and I'm also up for a Betty's meet up. We were talking about early August anyway... Having said that, it looks like I need to be jumping on a plane again towards the end of the week, so watch this space! Maybe mid month? |
