Oh I'm so enjoying my 4 days off - especially since it's not even holiday! I know I'll pay the price come the weekend but for now it's bliss! Winter is just beautiful here - 26C here today - blue skies , trees everywhere, mountains in the background - might go for a walk down by the Esplanade when I pick YoungPlum up - her school is a 2 minute walk from the beach ... well, beach such as it is .. it's not one of our better ones, but it's a lovely walk along the front.
My line manager/friend dropped in yesterday evening to tell me about how horrible the last couple of days at work have been - we were falling about laughing in the end, it's just hopeless and it's going to get worse by the end of the week when I take over - so I'll probably be rocking back and forth in the corner, crying and dribbling out of the corner of my mouth, but it's ok , we're all a bit like that at work at the moment It's funny the senior manager buys her coffee to cheer her up and then she buys me coffee to cheer me up .... the coffee shop is running a little goldmine these days! El Horriblo was being bumptious and a pain in the butt so had to be shut away ... but all we could hear in the background were little whines and this cute little trilling noise she makes when her feelings are hurt. Bless her! We all need to go to obedience classes and see if we can be trained *waves to Biz* - I do like it when you come visiting - you should do it more often - you're succinct, where I'm verbose *Big hugs to KJ* I think you're an awesome duuuude and I can only imagine what you're going through. Keep your chin up and keep on keeping on - hopefully this episode will calm down for you. I still plan to meet you one day! whether you like it or not When I make my mind up about something, I'm very stubborn - a terrier like attitude - woof!Belated happy birthday Handy - hope you had a truly cake-ilicious sort of day! Birthdays are lovely especially when you have a youngun because they usually love your birthday too .... and then they grow up a bit and forget it ... not that I'm accusing YoungPlum of anything a couple of years ago but elephants and Plums never forget Hope everyone else is keeping well and happy and hope only good things are happening. Sad I will pm you . Fortunately for you, I'm now tired of typing and will be brief .... as if !!

It's 4am and I'm sitting with my mum who isn't expected to live for more than another day or so. It's all surreal, my brother took the shift to 3am so she's not on her own, but she doesn't know we're here now.
We had to have the district nurse out again last night as she was in a lot of pain and very unsettled, but a top-up of morphine and being made comfy in her bed has settled her again. We're just sitting listening to her breathe

Awwww gilly my heart goes out to you - it's such a difficult time. My mum had the occasional moment of coming to and saying something, so she was definitely aware of me being there on some level - so it's well worth you both being there as when you can. It's so so very sad - at least you know that she is comfortable and I hope that the end comes peacefully in it's time. I wish I could say something to help make it better, but I can't, but just please know that I care xxx

Mr M did this for his Mum and he said it was the hardest but the best thing he ever did. God bless you and your Mum and your family. |

Gill ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) ![]() I'm in a spin because this week's gone by so quickly and I've still a fair bit to do before flying off. Some of it can be left undone but I'd so much prefer to leave a clear desk and a clean house. Let's see what I manage to accomplish today! gilly, I'm thinking of you. Xxx |

Well it's the last day of my 4 days off and looking back and reviewing how things have gone, I can safely say that other than maintaining the status quo of housework, washing etc.. I have achieved nothing, nada, zilch, f**kall - yayyy - go me!
Actually, I wish I haad achieved as I really would like to see the back of these cardboard boxes - but as my friend said, "exactly what do you plan to unpack it into" .. which is a new problem. Other than getting something to put the dvds in, alot of what is still in boxes can be either thrown out - we just didn't have time to sort before we moved, or put in plastic crates and stacked in the Land of Spare 'Oom! And there's paperwork to sort - I sort of regretted that this morning as I wanted to go and get my tax done but I can't because I need to find the bill from last year as I can claim that on this years's one, so tax remains undone but all the while I don't claim it back, I can't spend it on red zebras - so it's safe YoungPlum as I have said before is generally a very good girl and her teachers generally love her as she's not hard work ... so I was very amused yesterday when I got a text from her basically saying "Mum please don't be angry but MrH (her science teacher) has locked me and my friend out the science lesson" They were 5 minutes late because they got mixed up about getting changed after sports ... their fault ... but not crime of the century .. and so he just locked them out and left two best mates happily sitting chatting for 45 minutes - oh the punishment! Oh woe! How ridiculous - why could he not have given them a lunch time detention or a tedious extra assignment - he didn;t even ask them why they were late or tell them what was expected of them, it was only after about 15 minutes that another girl came out and told them they had to sit outside. YoungPlum was so relieved when I just texted back "too funny!" because it just struck me as hugely childish. I did give her a bit of a lecture about being responsible and organised and turning up for lessons on time etc.. etc.. But seriously - locking a kid out of a classroom? wtf? It's a really good school - excellent standards etc.. but sometimes I wonder Anyway, I must go and do some more nothing before I go back to work tomorrow - 4 am start should wipe the smile off my face

Plum, I can imagine your first book, "The Story of my Life", and your aside in brackets (How not to do it). So many people would empathize with you. Your wit and skill with words should make it a best seller. I can also imagine it being snapped up for a film or TV series.
Seriously, you do sound a very remarkable and resilient person - I couldn't live with El Horriblo - but then I'm a wimp.

Sending love and comforting vibes to gilly. xxx
Plummie, you are so right - what a totally daft punishment. I wonder about some teachers at times (and feel I can say this with feeling being part of the profession ) ... still, with you behind her, she will be unstoppable anyway ![]() Safe travels BG - wish I was coming too. Yesterday I managed to scrape my car bumper on another (thankfully very old beaten up going for scrap) car on the garage forecourt when it went for its MOT... then nearly had a van up the backside of the courtesy car when I braked for a baby pheasant... then nearly had a head on with a van which I found on my side of the road overtaking a lorry when I pulled out of a junction. I'm refusing to drive anywhere today

I bet you're pleased I encouraged you to go into teaching when you were swithering, all those years ago.
![]() ![]() ![]() That said I'm sure you were one of the many good pals on here who encouraged me to return to teaching in 2006, although to be fair I have trouble remembering stuff that happened on DS ten days ago so nearly ten years is a bit of a stretch. Some things stick in the mind more than others, of course... Like the time I got banned for 'outing' a strange lady who kept changing her username and stalking me round the autism/Asperger threads ![]() I was browsing a DS thread about absent posters last night and thought woefully of the good souls who no longer post on GOW for their own reasons. Hope they're all okay out there... those who are still with us anyway. There are some I really miss

I think it was when you were uncertain about returning Sad. As we age our brains become so full of stuff that we can't be expected to remember everything - though it's amazing how memories can be triggered sometimes.
I don't remember you being banned, but then like many others who got posting fatigue, or found life got in the way, I don't visit much these days. |

It's funny the senior manager buys her coffee to cheer her up and then she buys me coffee to cheer me up .... the coffee shop is running a little goldmine these days!
