As a bloke, Come Dine With Me (not me@h) took a while to register, and so much to catch up with.

Handy, how's my bro from another mother? Daleks in post, 1st class, should be ready to EXTERMINATE.

Went to work today.

Shouldn't have.

Going to work tomorrow.

Not sure how I will survive a day's training delivery after four days straight in bed with something that felt suspiciously like flu at the time. Cannot decide if I am dedicated or demented. Suspect the latter.

Happy Monday?

I hope that you're feeling better SP. Reports of flu going around already is a bit scary as I'm not getting my flu shot until 7 Nov. I got it for the first time last year and had no reaction to it at all. I did get flu-ish sick once during the winter but didn't have to actually see the doctor and no anti-biotics were necessary for the ear/sinus infection that always follows. Has everyone else had the jab yet? Or are you not going to get it? Do you find that it helps?

Slowly getting things back to normal and things in their regular spots. The front half of the garden (my veggie and herb patches) have been totally destroyed by the refurbishing crew. No biggy since the season is almost over and now I can plan for bigger and better next year. There's a lot of cleaning up to do though and with the rainy spell we're having it's slowing things up.

There's a few MIAs these days. Hopefully it's a goody busy keeping you away.

I would pay good money to watch you host - Spam surprise starter, a mystery main and... have you ever done a pud KJ? All washed down with Speckled Hen of course.

(((LL))) sorry to hear about your doings.

Sad - you're just bonkers. And you work too hard. I'm going to hazard a guess that you should've had more time off.

me@ - I keep meaning to have the jab but never get round to it. I've had flu once, in my teens, and it was one of the worst things I've ever experienced. I was as fit as a fiddle and very sporty, then suddenly couldn't make it up the stairs. Very scary.

Here, Batman's just made me lol. He was passing a Lush - which he normally avoids like the plague - and moved by his love for me ( ) decided to buy me a few things. Didn't have a clue as to what to get but no problem, the sales woman was very helpful, he said. Knowing how 'helpful' they can be in there I asked him how much he spent. Let's just say that she was VERY helpful. I can't be cross, can I?

Hump Day or Back To The Future Day is almost over and I hope it was a good one for you all.

Snowy I hope you got your handbag back ok.

Today I treated myself to a solo shopping trip on the Kalverstraat. My quest was for some winter clothes. Mostly I shop online because of my mobility problem but I wanted to see the stuff in the shops. I forgot about how crowded Amsterdam city centre is every day no matter what time of year. Tuesday morning is the quietest time for this and I forgot about that. It was also raining which didn't help things. I didn't get much: a lip pencil from Mac and a pair of trousers from Didi.

BG: I passed Lush but didn't go in and give the "very helpful" staff a chance to sell me the shop. I fell out of love with it almost two years ago due to quality problems and their continually getting rid of the stuff I like. And there was also the credit card fraud problem I had when I shopped online and the bank cancelled my card and I had no access to cash for almost 2 weeks until the replacement finally found it's way from the UK to Holland.

Mr. Home brought the balcony plants up from the garden today and there's quite a few that didn't survive their temporary location. Tomorrow my favourite plant stall on the market will be getting a bit of my cash. His plants are about 1/3 of the price of the ones in the garden centre and he gives me great deals on top of that.

Happy Friday Grumpies!

Crowded thought it gets, I still miss Amsterdam me@. My boy keeps saying we need to just pop over one weekend and re-visit all our favourite places. If we do manage it, I'll let you know in good time to sort out a little meet up.

Nothing much to report from the batcave. I've done everything I can as far as 'worky' things for this week so I'm taking the bike out for an extra long ride and then it's just a bit of food shopping before sticking my feet up with a big glass of something in hand. Can't wait.

You keep saying that but never show up! What part did you live in? I know you told me once but I was new here so didn't really know where anywhere is. After a few years I know a just a little bit more. Anyway, do let me know when you're coming so we can meet up.

Today I'm transplanting a few houseplants. Or at least I'm supposed to be but I'm here instead. It's feeling a bit nippy out and I don't want to even open the door and walk the 15 steps outside to get the bag of soil and the pots. And I have the heat on. One of my favourite poems is very appropriate for what's happening out there now:
Ancient Music by Ezra Pound

Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm.
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

I know me@ . One of these days I will.

You still might not know my neck of the woods because strictly speaking we were in Amstelveen, right on the edge of the Bos. Five minutes up the road to Amsterdam itself but definitely well away from the crowds of tourist. And my boy was at the British school, just off Beethovenstraat, so we tended to stick well to the south side of town.

One of these days...

Raining and horrible here, so our usual outdoorsy weekend plans are on hold. Might as well stick the kettle on again.

BG: I actually do know where you're talking about! Been to a couple of picnics in the Bos and have also been to Amstelveen several times. You're right, you were well away from the crowds. Lucky! We're in Oost but just one major street away from Alexanderplein which is the Centruum. The tourist crowd is spilling over to here. There are a couple of small hotels opening here and a couple more in the planning although our neighbourhood group has objected to one of them and we'll probably win that one. The Troppenmuseum and Oosterpark are right down the street from me on one end the Dappermarkt at the other end of which we're in the middle of. No canal view but the Mauritskade is just at the end of the market for a canal walk with one of the only windmills in the city (Brouwerij Ij) at Zeeburgerstraat right there, too. There's nothing nicer than being dropped off in a canal boat down the street from your house after an evening at the pub.

Glad you got them Snowbes... see, we do love you, even when you thrash us at Scrabble

BG - you were right, I went back too soon, but it worked out ok in the end. Have so much work coming in at the moment I don't want to jinx it by getting poorly. Am not eligible for free flu jab and too much of a wimp anyway, so am going to revise my diagnosis to it must have been a severe cold as I am fine (well, apart from the cough, increased night sweats and generally feeling knackered )

Little Saddette failed her driving test - 17 minors, so more irritating than devastating for her - for me, totally devastating as it ruled out the last chance I had to get to Warsaw for All Souls weekend. Gutted.

Next year half term is a week earlier so there's no way I will get there then either. Will just have to find another good excuse... although have to say I would love to visit Amsterdam too.

Plummie.... where art thou? With the wonders of facebook I can be assured that most of you are ok (well, out there at any rate) but the Plumster hasn't succumbed...

This evening I am bracing myself for a three hour round trip to collect Little Saddette from her weekly training ... she'd better bloody pass next time :/

Hope all grumpies are having a fab weekend xx
