I really want to see it too. Batman came close to getting a contract in that part of the world and looking at property prices, it would've been cheaper to live on one side and work on the other, so it would've been his daily commute. I would have loved that!

Plummy! Yay! Good luck to the little one for the exams.

My dad, me@ - haven't yet got to the stage where other people's dads are calling me at half past midnight thankfully

Simply because I asked him to describe the fault he had with the telly (yes, in addition to the computer issues he was having) and the response made me giggle uncontrollably, I'm sharing it here. Reading it aloud to the kids at breakfast made me cry with laughter. It probably helps if you know him... you decide:

The TV is powered by mains lead through a transformer (supplied) input 100-240 volt; output 12 volt 5 amp which plugs into a socket in the side of the TV. It developed a fault which Maplins diagnosed as being a max output of 6/7 volts and a faulty connection into the set. I then purchase for £36 a multi socket transformer which came with six alternative input heads and they made a choice for me of two of the heads, one of which I am now using. But the heads have their own design fault in that they’ve only got to move a fraction away from the connection and power is lost. I’ve tried taping the flex to the side and back of the TV so that the weight doesn’t cause the head to separate – it doesn’t work. I believe the whole section including the power input is faulty so eventually I will need to replace it.

In the meantime I’m starting the TV around lunchtime every day: each start takes between 30mins and 90mins but has been known to take as long as 4 hours. Everything is turned off at night so I start again each day. Turn all the power on and make sure the red light is on to indicate standby. Turn on my Hi Fi to make sure the separate speakers are working and put the volume up high so that I can hear if the connection showing the red light is a good one. If it is then I can hear a rhythmic Phttt every four secs: if it is dead I readjust the position of the feed into the back of the set until it makes the right noise. When that’s working I sit down with remote and press the red on button in time with the Phttt. Eventually, it will stop returning to the red light, and then if I hear the right noise, a phttt followed by a soft plop, I press the red button repeatedly until the red light turns to blue. This will return to red straight away, and then I press the remote until I get blue again. I normally get three or four blue lights before I get one that holds longer (a louder plop) snd then the screen and sound both come alive with a PLOP. The picture is weak but strengthens with time. Sometimes it fails again which can happen anywhere between 10 mins and six hours of it working which doesn’t lend itself to comfortable viewing.

Some may think I'm an awful daughter for laughing at this but those of you who know me well (and understand what it has taken for me to keep in touch with this parent) will probably be more forgiving...

Good to hear from you Plummie!!! And a huge relief, sorry life's so hectic but glad you're still out there and hope you can pop in more often, miss hearing from you. I do the same I'm afraid - observe more than I post - partly because DS seems to take ages to load these days, is totally un-mobile friendly on my sad little smartphone, and FB is therefore easier.

Today I am trying to write not one but TWO observations up and need to get them done so I can invoice tomorrow and thus be paid before Christmas... *puts head down and disconnects internet*

It's on my list of box sets to try to obtain one day - I am rubbish at remembering to watch stuff. Got the last three episodes of Downton to catch up on. We only watch Dr Who every week because there are three of us reminding each other....

That bridge looks amazing though. I really want to go too...

I wish I were cold. It's too bloody hot here! It's miserable - the humidity must be high the last couple of days as it's not really any hotter than it often is, it just feels horrible. I've got toothache as well and just can't afford to go to the dentist so I'm hoping it will spontaneously go away in a day or two, but not terribly hopeful.

In happier news, YoungPlum is singing and dancing with joy as she finished Year 8 and is now on her long summer holiday - 2 months off - I wish I could have that!

I'm supposed to be doing lots of cleaning and stuff today as we have a house inspection at the end of the week, but I'm being an optimist and hoping that it will be arctic weather conditions on Tuesday and I can do it then on my weekly day off. Too hot today. I might do some stuff today but the full scale moving furniture and mopping everywhere can wait. I'm not cleaning the fans today either as that would mean turning them off and I'm not turning off those suckers no sirreeee - not in this heat!

So hard to imagine that heat when it's so nippy here - the grass is always greener, innit.

We've had a productive weekend chez Sad. Wrote off a car (uneconomic to repair, not crashed ) and replaced it all by 1pm yesterday, and did the weekly food shop by then too. Today - sigh - I am being a taxi, but taking the opportunity to visit a mate since - well, I'm nearer to her than I normally would be. Going to check out her local Christmas bazaar and play with a toddler. Has to be better than writing any more observations up, right?

In other news - managed to finally catch an episode of The Bridge last night. As a result (and we didn't start watching it from the beginning, either, I was channel hopping) Mr Sad is currently downloading the entire series. Not sure when I will watch them... bet he manages it. Wonder why that always happens...

Evening!

I must admit Plummy, that although I love the sun, I'm all for a bit of frost and snow as we get into December. Not that we've got any of that... It's just various shades of windy gray here.
