My dad, me@ - haven't yet got to the stage where other people's dads are calling me at half past midnight thankfully
Simply because I asked him to describe the fault he had with the telly (yes, in addition to the computer issues he was having) and the response made me giggle uncontrollably, I'm sharing it here. Reading it aloud to the kids at breakfast made me cry with laughter. It probably helps if you know him... you decide:
The TV is powered by mains lead through a transformer (supplied) input 100-240 volt; output 12 volt 5 amp which plugs into a socket in the side of the TV. It developed a fault which Maplins diagnosed as being a max output of 6/7 volts and a faulty connection into the set. I then purchase for £36 a multi socket transformer which came with six alternative input heads and they made a choice for me of two of the heads, one of which I am now using. But the heads have their own design fault in that they’ve only got to move a fraction away from the connection and power is lost. I’ve tried taping the flex to the side and back of the TV so that the weight doesn’t cause the head to separate – it doesn’t work. I believe the whole section including the power input is faulty so eventually I will need to replace it.
In the meantime I’m starting the TV around lunchtime every day: each start takes between 30mins and 90mins but has been known to take as long as 4 hours. Everything is turned off at night so I start again each day. Turn all the power on and make sure the red light is on to indicate standby. Turn on my Hi Fi to make sure the separate speakers are working and put the volume up high so that I can hear if the connection showing the red light is a good one. If it is then I can hear a rhythmic Phttt every four secs: if it is dead I readjust the position of the feed into the back of the set until it makes the right noise. When that’s working I sit down with remote and press the red on button in time with the Phttt. Eventually, it will stop returning to the red light, and then if I hear the right noise, a phttt followed by a soft plop, I press the red button repeatedly until the red light turns to blue. This will return to red straight away, and then I press the remote until I get blue again. I normally get three or four blue lights before I get one that holds longer (a louder plop) snd then the screen and sound both come alive with a PLOP. The picture is weak but strengthens with time. Sometimes it fails again which can happen anywhere between 10 mins and six hours of it working which doesn’t lend itself to comfortable viewing.
Some may think I'm an awful daughter for laughing at this

but those of you who know me well (and understand what it has taken for me to keep in touch with this parent) will probably be more forgiving...
Good to hear from you Plummie!!! And a huge relief, sorry life's so hectic but glad you're still out there and hope you can pop in more often, miss hearing from you. I do the same I'm afraid - observe more than I post - partly because DS seems to take ages to load these days, is totally un-mobile friendly on my sad little smartphone, and FB is therefore easier.
Today I am trying to write not one but TWO observations up and need to get them done so I can invoice tomorrow and thus be paid before Christmas... *puts head down and disconnects internet*
