Glad the batcave has survived - been quite worried looking at it all on the telly. Must be awful for those affected. Hope lessons are learned but suspect it will continue to be govt policy to build on flood plains and reduce spending on flood defences despite the obvious risks. The cynic in me wonders if they're hoping the insurance companies will take on the sponsorship of flood defences - has to be cheaper than what they will pay out to those fortunate enough to have insurance in place.
/rant over Here, I'm tidying the war zone that my office became in the run up to Christmas, and trying not to think about the report I should be writing. I've got a few more days ![]() Hope all grumpies have survived the festivities without murdering in laws. Personally quite proud of myself on that score

Evening!
I've had a fab time enjoying my Christmas prezzies. I thought the pink tassels for my bike were pretty spectacular but the firm favourite is going to be the Fitbit wotnot that tells you what a lazy slob you are. I thought I was doing great, with about 10 miles of fast cycling every day, but even with that I've been falling way short of the 10,000 daily steps. Well, no longer! Yesterday I got to 13,000 hiking through the woods and today I've managed almost 9,000 so far, mainly by dragging Batman round the shops. It was for his own good - he needs the exercise more than I do. That I got a lovely bag is by the bye. Anyway, my thingy does all kinds of other stuff too, so I'm now charting everything from my sleep patterns (much better than I thought) to my resting heart rate (currently 63, thank you for asking). It could get obsessive. ![]() And it's almost 2016!!!! After much deliberation, we're staying in tomorrow night. PJs, fondue, TV. Maybe we're getting on a bit.

I got a fitbit one for Christmas. I don't think I'm using it properly yet...
![]() It's not the singing and dancing variety but it does track my sleep patterns which are pretty appalling ![]() Spending NYE with my bestest friends in the world... apart from you lot, obviously - armed with a vat of rose. Just in case I don't make it back in here before midnight - Happy 2016 everyone xxx |

![]() It's not the singing and dancing variety but it does track my sleep patterns which are pretty appalling ![]() ![]() One word of warning, in case you don't know - I found out purely by accident that some kind of step counting still happens when one's sat on one's bum in the car. I clocked up almost 1800 today on the way to the woods and back, driving. ![]() Quote:

Right back at you. Have a fab time and may your hangover be insignificant. Though it doesn't sound like it will be. ![]() And my best wishes to all the other grumpies. You're the best. Xxx |

Happy New Year my GrumpyChums
I thought i'd posted since I got to new year first ... but it seems I just meant to! The saying goes that the road to heaven (or is it hell - I never remember) is paved with good intentions, I suspect most of the paving slabs are mine and mainly to do with the intention to post, email or call - I'm seriously a nightmare and getting progressively worse for which I am truly ashamed .... well maybe not ashamed ... slightly guilty probably is a more honest and less dramatic appraisal of the situation The new year arrived without me there to witness it as I was asleep by 10pm or possibly a bit earlier than that - my excuse being that I was up at 4.30 am for work. Had a day out to the store in Port Douglas - so that made a pleasant change. I drove half way there to my colleague's bf's house and she drove us the rest of the way, which was great because it meant that I got to sightsee ... the road runs along the coast and the beaches/views really are spectacularly beautiful in places. The downside was that I had to work all day but then there was the drive home which was lovely again. My weekend working again, so it's been a long week but next is my short week of the month - i only work 3 days - so I'm stoked about that. If the rain would only stop I might get to do my lawn, if not i'll have to get someone in to do it as it's getting to the unbearably long stage, curse all this rain and sunshine - Mother Nature is a pita at times YoungPlum and I are having fun and squabbles playing the lego Hobbit on xbox - she gets grumpy with me for being silly and just enjoying bashing things, while she wants to "progress the game" - oooooh hark at her and her fancy phrases! Mind you, she usually caves in and we ignore the plot and just run around chasing and killing each other for the hell of it. She likes all the Halo and COD games, but i like kids games - they're more in keeping with my persona ... I'm a dwarf with attitude it seems Nothing exciting happening here though - life just plods along. Getting closer to buying a new couch, it's moved up the priority list and I'm hoping to get one by the end of january - i think finances will permit it - woop woop! Anyway, I wish you all a very happy New Year and hope that life is kind to you all xx |

Same from me! Happy New Year Plummy.
![]() I remember playing Zelda with the boy when he was little and, like you, I was always going off to do the fun stuff on the game. On the other hand I was the first one to kill Ganondorf (<-- sp??) and when I announced it when picking him up from school (we were in Amsterdam then - waves to me@ ) all his friends were mightily impressed. ![]() Apart from that I'm a 1000 steps off my target. Feel like a slob. It's still the holidays, though.

See my fitbit doesn't have a target... other than to beat yesterday's paltry 3,500 steps. I'm driving the daughter into town in a bit, last time I drove that nailed 500 steps
![]() Hope everyone's making the most of the last weekend of the festive break - unlike me, I'm cleaning the kitchen. Yup, it's that time of year again - procrastinating to avoid logging into HMRC online

Yup, it's that time of year again - procrastinating to avoid logging into HMRC online ![]() My fitbit came with a preset one of 10,000. The thing vibrates when I reach it. Most pleasant. But it takes a bit of doing. ![]() And today we might have to slob anyway, because the weather is completely horrible. Can't wait for spring now. |

Hello peeps. Happy New Year to all.
I too am idling away my last day of freedom. Although I have looked at a bit of lesson planning as I surf around. I am apprehensive about starting the new job tomorrow and so maybe I should just go back to my room with a book and pretend it's not happening. We were supposed to be having a day trip but the weather is not great. I had to Google fitbit. I hadn't heard of it. Is it just a posh watch that nags you when you don't walk far enough or do I need one and just don't know it? They look expensive. I have another gadget that vibrates already. Hope you are well today, LL. And everyone else. I think it's already tomorrow for you plums. Off now to enter my breakfast calories into my fitness pal on my vibrating phone. It also tells the time. I wonder if I can find out how to make it count steps. |

The vibrations are just a bonus.
![]() I think you can get apps that do step counting Amica, but I haven't tried any. The fitbit is ace, though. I'm going to get a bit evangelical about it, I think. The one I got does things like charts sleep patters, counts the calories you're using up through whatever activities each day, does something called active minutes... Some of it I don't bother with, but I do like that you can input all kinds of sporty things - cycling for me - and then as well as the steps, it gives you exercise charts that show various stats. I'd been kidding myself that I'm getting cardio workouts when out on the bike, for example. I probably did at first but I'm a lot fitter now so the fitbit's showing me that my heart rate isn't going up enough on my usual jaunts out. It makes a huge difference when I take account of that and push myself a bit. But I get that it's not for everyone. ![]() And once you buy into the 10,000 steps per day thing it's a question of how to fit it in, if you're at a desk for work, for example. I need to walk for at least 45 minutes more each day, and I need to find the time to do it. And I will. And I definitely wouldn't have done without the gadget. Okay, I'll stop talking about it now.

Belated Happy New Year to all the Grumpies. I hope that the new year brings better things for everyone.
![]() I'm finally slipping back into my normal routine after my very nice holiday spent in London with my son. We overdid everything and I'll have to lose some weight somehow after we finish off the baked goodies. I brought most of it with me to London (my fudge (that I packed in Mr. Home's carry-on bag) got swabbed and scanned a few times at the airport ) but left a bit here in order to continue the holiday vibe. We'll try to finish it off this week. Oh, the struggle.![]() Hugs and vibes of every description to all. xx |
