Woah - it's grumpy in here today and understandably so!

Is there no chance of a turnaround? I thought there was some suggestion that as long as article whatever it is wasn't invoked and if a general election was called that there could be some leeway from undoing what hasn't actually been done yet if the country start to realise the implications of what they have voted for. I find it somewhat alarming that a real almost 50/50 split of the vote could see such a major change taken forward. With so many of the other European countries also now whining about the EU - is there no possibility that a radical overhaul of the system could see Britain remaining part of it? I don't know, i'm just asking - i'm ashamed to say that I've taken no real part in the debate. I also confess to being a bit of a political ****wit and generally stay out of discussions on the subject.

On the slightly less important issue of the "Say NO to LARD" campaign - I've had a couple of weeks off and been saying "Bring it on - give the LARD to me NOW!" - fortunately this hasn't so far had detrimental results but I think my luck won't hold, so from Monday I'm back to being saintly. A few more kgs need to be wobbled off, so even if I were invited to Grumpy Gateau Gorging day, I wouldn't come as me eating my lettuce leaf might put you off

It's now Day 2 of my 3 day weekend and so far nothing useful has been done - i've done the necessary stuff to ensure we survive and that's about it. Today I hope to do something useful but as I didn't get up til nearly 11am I think the chances of success are not high - I feel another lazy day ahead of watching movies, playing the xbox and possibly going out to buy something easy to cook for dinner. I'm trying to feel guilty about this, but so far it's not working and I suspect I have a big happy smile on my face :
I'm shocked. Shocked I tell ya!

Afternoon!

Have settled myself down a bit now and am observing the resultant political shenanigans with considerable interest...

And being very healthy and scoffing a big bowl of summer berries.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

I'm feeling a bit of a fraud. I've joined this thread on the basis that I can really have a good old moan about things that just don't work the way they should and lo and behold, nothing has gone wrong all week. well, except the EU referendum but I'm not going to bring politics on here.

We've been to visit OH's parents today and had a lovely lunch. The Infant Wrecking Ball played happily with grandpa, and although he indulged her every whim (as he always does), for the first time ever, she hasn't taken this as a green light to push the envelope with her mummies. Hmmmm.... What's she up to..?

OH has been sweetness itself all week. Not come home and complained about work once, and even her little domestic faults and foibles seem, well, cute... if you know what I mean.

The mischief machine has been as good as gold and even 'helping mummy' hasn't had the usual effect of turning everything she touches in her efforts to help, into the sort of disaster area that would make downtown Fallujah look like a rather fetching rock garden.

I've been wondering what's going on. My life isn't usually this idyllic. Until tonight.

When we got home, we got the Two Legged Tsunami bathed, tucked up in bed (only a short story tonight) and settled down for a nice glass of wine to relax with.........

Disaster of disasters. Somehow (and I think the individual responsible is sleeping soundly by now) the plug of the fridge has been somehow pulled out and as we've been out all day, everything in the fridge is now warm..... INCLUDING THE WINE...!!

ARRRRRRRGGGHHHHH..!!

Thankfully the freezer hasn't defrosted, but come on... warm wine. That's just not civilised.

OH has gone to buy some from the chilled cabinet in the convenience store so disaster should be averted, but at last I have something now to be grumpy about and now feel I'm contributing to the thread.

Wineless of West Country

Wine Update

Wife has returned with three bottles of nicely chilled wine. Equilibrium is restored. We've opened the first one and it's actually a rather cheeky little number considering it's from a convenience store.

Even if this week hasn't been a particularly stressful one, I've worked hard and I want my reward. So, if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to partake of this pleasantly fruity white with my loved one.

Have a nice evening, ladies. Mwahs

I am particularly grumpy this morning and with good reason. I don’t know if anybody else here has the same problem. I have difficulty sleeping when the mornings become light so early. The daylight coming through the bedroom window wakes me up. My diurnal rhythms must be incredibly sensitive but any light coming in opens my eyes without fail.

For this reason, we have thick, heavy curtains in our bedroom and we pull them tight closed in the summer so I can sleep through to a normal hour, but I think we must have had a little too much wine last night. OH came back with three bottles (see the ‘fridge disaster’ post) and by the time we’d drunk those, our own wine had chilled in our (by now) plugged in fridge so we drank that too. When we went up to bed, the curtains obviously weren’t pulled properly and so here I am, wide awake at stupid o clock, and with a head that feels like Jason Statham has gotten stuck behind my eyeballs and is trying to punch his way out.

At times like this, I’m rubbish. I stumble around in a half-awake (more like half dead) state of mental fugue. On one occasion I made myself some toast, dropped it on the kitchen floor and then trod on it. When I swept up the resultant crumbs, I put the dustpan and brush away in the oven. I didn’t realise it was there until I went to put a casserole in to cook later that day.

Another time, I fell asleep on the loo. I smacked my head on the wall as it lolled to one side which made me stand up in surprise whereupon I tripped over my own knickers.

I’d go back to bed and snuggle up for a cuddle but I must have pretty bad dogbreath right now and that’s always a turn off for OH.

I’ve put the radio on quietly and am enjoying the Dawn Patrol on Radio Two. It’s not as good as when Sarah Kennedy used to do the show but Vanessa Feltz makes a better fist of it than I would have expected.

I think I’ll make a cup of coffee and take it out onto the patio..... sit there and mellow out while all is still peaceful.

You've my sympathies CP - we love our wine here in the batcave.

Another week's looming large... I'm going to fire up worky stuff at 9 and then stop at mid day. Then the afternoon is going to be my own.

I'm trying to get a better work/life balance.

I quite agree, Bats. Work / life balance is important. Life can't be all work and no play, can it..?

I thought I would struggle to be a stay at home mum and that I would miss my career very much. We were also worried that, as I was the higher earner of the two of us, we would struggle financially. As it has turned out, yes, I do miss my job and we have had to make sacrifices. I flogged myself through Uni to graduate for my career and it was a wrench to give it up. It's going to be darned difficult to get back into it when the time comes. But I couldn't be happier. It's all worth it.

We too do our worky stuff in the mornings and Little Piskie is quite a helping hand, even if she does usually make more mess than we started with. I once made the foolish error of not taking the full Hoover bag with me when I removed it from Henry and went to fetch a new one. Big mistake.

I was tired..... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Right..!! Coffee break over. We have to go to the shops now and then that's everything done for today. The weather isn't so good here today so I might take Little Piskie to the swimming pool this afternoon. She loves to swim. A proper little water baby.

I like my work / life balance. We don't get time for play every day but when we do, we make the most of it.

I hope it's a good day for all you Grumpies out there. Take care everybody.

Sounds like a fab lifestyle CP. Enjoy those early years - they fly by!

I've been out on my bike this morning for a quick 20 mile blast through the countryside. Should be working, but my extremely problematic cousin is in the middle of yet another disaster of his own making that he thinks I should be rescuing him from. And he's a hard chap to help - middle aged, never had any responsibility in his life, and thinks the world owes him a living (of the standard of his own choosing). And he's the type that... well, you could donate both your kidneys to him and never mind a thank you, he'd still find something to complain about!

Congratulations snOwy!!! Brilliant news.

LL - lots of vibes.

Here, I got up extra early and managed to get most things done by about 10am, which is a first! Everyone I needed to talk to was in, every email got an almost immediate response... I wonder what's going on.

He got a 2 1
So proud
Congrats to Snowy Junior @ 2:1.

I got a 2:1 as well and I'm quite sure, from my own experience, that he will be feeling not only elated at his own success, but glad that you are so proud of him.

There are some parents out there who either take their offspring's success for granted, or damn them with faint praise. One lad on my course got a 2:1 and when he told his father on the phone what he had got, his dad replied along the lines of "not bad I suppose, but your brother got a first".

Are you going to go to his graduation ceremony..? It meant the world to me that my parents were there, and dad even brought a bottle of champagne so he could get a photo of me and some other girls from my course shaking the bottle up and make a champagne shower, just like Formula One racers. That was fun and the photo he got of us doing it in our caps and gowns came out brilliant. He has that photo in a frame on the wall of his den (mancave) so I know it is special to him and that means a lot too.

Congrats again to Snowy Jr. Good luck to him in now finding a career that makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Best wishes.
