Hi everyone.

Had a great weekend and amazingly, managed to negotiate the hen night without embarrassing myself, doing something blonde, or engaging in activity that I'd wake up in the morning wishing I hadn't.

We had a lot of fun and many thanks to all you lovely Grumpies out there who wished us a happy time.

@ Laura...... I took my screenie from local folklore, but am aware of the scene in Chamber of Secrets when Gilderoy Lockhart let loose a bunch of very mischievous piskies in class with disastrous results. Oh, those piskies can be a handfull..!!! We have some at the bottom of our garden. They tease the cats then whisk off, and just can't be caught. Tsk. What are they like..?

By the way, message to all grumpies, please feel free to call me Jen on this board.

I use a screen name for the main board because.... well.... you know what that lot over there are like. But I feel I'm amongst a bunch of very nice people on this board and a little less formality is a good thing.

Here it's more of the same old same old for which I am grateful at the moment. We are on holiday abroad next week so I need to think about laundry and packing etc. but it can wait until the weekend. Didn't have a minute last weekend as I was busy at two end of term parties. One for my current job and the other for my last. I was pickled by Sunday but am now in recovery.

Politics can be brutal, SnOwy. Stay safe!

Thanks grumpies just having a rough time at present and don't want to add to oh troubles I have now got steroid induced diabetes and hoping that once off the steroids things will go back to normal had no sugar problems before but the district nurse says i could be on insulin for 12 to 18 month until things settle oh the joy more meds but we must keep plodding thanks once again.

I am a bit delicate as consumed too much prosecco last night

A few months ago I asked my dad if he had been to see the Dad's Army movie. The TV show of the 1970's was one of his favourites and he watches the re-runs on retro channels.

He said he wouldn't see the film because it couldn't possibly be anywhere near as good as the original, with other people in the cast and different scriptwriters. Who could possibly replace Arthur Lowe as Captain Mainwaring, he said. I thought he was just being mawkishly nostalgic.

But now I feel pretty much the same way about the movie version of Absolutely Fabulous. I loved the original TV series for its quirkiness and British way of parodying the fashion industry.... Jen Saunders and Joanna Lumley were brilliant and I never missed an episode.

Even though pretty much all the original cast are in the film, I'm hearing that it's been "Hollywood-ised" and that's a crime. AbFab was too good to be messed around with and made into a pale shadow of it's former brilliance.

Or am I being mawkishly nostalgic too..?

I went to see Ab Fab a few days ago CP, with my mother-in-law. Although we have fairly different tastes in comedy, I quite liked the TV Ab Fab (and love Joanna Lumley) and she adored it, so we thought we were onto a good one. But we both hated it! There were quite a few people in the cinema and I don't think anyone laughed out loud at any point. It just wasn't very funny, had lost its original charm, and had a money-making exercise stamp all over it. I wouldn't even recommend it on DVD. Total pants.

Apart from that - good morning grumpies! I'm up early to make the most of the sunshine. Apparently it's all going to pot again after Tuesday.

But yesterday i saw Ghostbusters in 3 d. And we laughed our socks off .
I screamed a few times as was still delicate from the night before

As regards fillums - we will be watching Dad's Army at some point cos they filmed a lot of it in Bridlington, about an hour from here.
Would like to see Ghostbusters because it's quite controversial in geek circles (a remake with girls in) and I want to see if it's a decent film or not.
We went to see Now You See Me 2 yesterday while Melony was on a Brownie day out, and it was really good. Sort of like my beloved Hustle amped up to massive size. Everybody in it is brilliant and the plot is really twisty. Amazing.
Suicide Squad and the new Star Trek movie coming up soon, too. Woot!

AND - our horrible chav neighbours might be moving out !!!!!! Am so excited by this! Anyone want to buy the house when it gets reposessed? I could do with somebody living next door who's not a complete nob....

Several people I know well enough to want to visit have recently relocated to your general direction though - funnily enough - so hoping I can spend a week up there at some point - be warned

Sorry for my absence - DS is such a pain to load on IE these days and I'm a dinosaur and don't like using other browsers. I have, however, finally invested in a (cheap) tablet so I'll see if Edge is any better at loading pages without running eternal scripts and playing stupid pop ups.

LL - your grumping is minor compared to what you have to endure on a daily basis so rant as much as you like.

Cinema - haven't been for yonks. I quite fancied AbFab but might not bother now. I don't enjoy the cinema experience much though - it's only worth it for 'epic' stuff where you need the bigger screen and for me AbFab won't come into that category, IMO.

Now if they would re-run Game of Thrones as a series of movies....

Had a busy couple of weeks - work is hectic but things may be on the up, as there might be a change of leadership in the offing which would remove my line manager from my orbit which should make my life a lot less stressful. The workload would be the same but the bitching would be gone! Fingers crossed it comes about.

Bit concerned at the moment, off to the vet with Destructo and YoungPlum this afternoon. Destructo has a lump on her chest which we need to get checked out, she's only 5 so hopefully nothing grim but you can't help but worry. She's eating and drinking well and is as naughty as ever so no cause for panic .... yet still i think i am quietly on the inside.

The Demento twins are being their usual lunatic selves, Tonks hasn't given up on being able to climb walls and regularly makes the attempt only to look fairly startled and/or outraged when her plan fails. Luna likes to climb things too using her claws to grip, unfortunately for YoungPlum, she is the one that is generally being climbed They are entering a classic kitten phase of playing with a ball of wool. They were in my bedroom the other day crashing and banging around sounding as if they were using sledgehammers to knock through the wall to the spare room (still wouldn't put that passed them) ... but when we went in to check on them later, they had wound the wool round the bedroom furniture creating what to all and intents and purposes was a PlumTrap ... it was like one of those things you see in movies where there are laser alarm systems that you have to weave your way through - it was totally impressive, yet also a pain to unravel at bedtime - got to love them though

Other dramas are cooking away quietly in the background, but I'll save them for another day! Meanwhile, I'm enjoying being almost chilly ... it's 23c here today and we're in the middle of a thunderstorm and best of all i've got 2 days off work, then three days back and then it's my weekend off - so this should be a good week!

Awww, Plum..... you've got kits. I remember when ours were kittens and hadn't yet decided that wifey and I are rotten hunters so they have to bring their kills home to us as presents and to show us how it's done. Bless them.

Of course, being felines they regard wifey and I as their staff and treat us with the aloofness that is their right and that we, as mere serfs in their world, are here to serve their every whim. Only the infant wrecking ball holds them in any state of awe and that's probably because they recognise in her a force of nature more destructive than themselves. Anybody that small, who can bring down a fully decorated Christmas tree in one fell swoop, as Megan did last year must command their respect.

Thanks to all grumpies for comments about movies various. We've decided not to see AbFab after all but will wait until it comes out on Sky Movies and perhaps give it a try then, but from the broad spectrum of comments on this board, Rainbow Network, and IMDB, we'll probably not be sitting down to it with the big box of maltesers between us (only really good films, that are going to keep us glued to the screen for the entire duration require a big box of maltesers to keep us sustained with choccy throughout).

Oh well..... another Monday.... another week. Here we go again. Catcha later ladies.

Evening all

Trip to the vet was fraught as usual - Destructo was in usual boisterous mood, she loves it there, but she goes into full body wiggle mode and since she's built like a tank it's dangerous. She's also got a thing about small dogs lately, she's gone right off them and there were 2 there, plus there were 2 cats who live at the practice so that made an excitable dog even more over-excited - she was positively foaming at the mouth with joy and grossness. The vet says we're just to keep monitoring the lump over the coming weeks and if it changes appearance or size to come back, she thinks it's almost certainly a benign lump. YoungPlum is going to take regular photos so we can compare. While we were there she had her annual vaccinations, heart worm injection, flea control and worming .... I feel even more poor than usual

Thanks for all the kind wishes and it seems Destructo will live on to wreak more havoc in my life - yayyyy! She's joining me on my say NO to LARD campaign as we were counting her fat rolls while we were waiting.

Looking forward to another day off tomorrow - got heaps to do and whilst it's cooled down I'm going to do my best to get on with stuff! I wouldn't suggest holding your breath while you wait for me to come back with my impressive list of achievements though .... I know I know, i shouldn't be so negative but if I can't be honest with myself and you lot then who am I going to be honest with

Had a lovely afternoon at the beach. Some of us mums from the toddlers play group took our little darlings down to the East Beach because it is nice and sandy and very safe for little ones there. You can paddle out for more than a quarter of a mile without getting out of your depth. It was quite crowded because the weather is gorgeous right now but the kids loved it , Meg's caught the sun a little despite me putting lots of sun cream on her (which she didn't like at all) and I made her wear a hat (which she tried to get rid of when she thought I wasn't looking). We had ice cream, made sand castles and played beach ball and it was just a lot of fun.

I've absolutely nothing to be grumpy about today..!!
