Sad start to the morning.
When Amanda went out to work she saw an ambulance outside a house further down our road....lights flashing and ambulance crew running in and out of the house. I couldn't help but be nosey and ask another neighbour what was going on and it turned out that the old man who lived alone in the house was found dead when his grand daughter came to visit first thing this morning. He was a lovely old gent and always said "Good morning" whenever anybody passed by. We didn't know him too well, but he would pass the time of day when he was out and about and he would make Megan laugh by pulling faces when we were out and he saw us. He called her "button" and he was such a cheerful soul. We have lovely neighbours and he was one of the nicest. I feel really sad now. |

Piskie, what a shame!
![]() It's a shock when things like that happen. snowy - hang on in there, it *will* be worth it. Here, I'm trying to sort out after-school arrangements for Melony because our childminder finished work at the end of June. No luck so far and I'm getting a wee bit stressed about it; we can probably cobble together something that we can keep up for a few weeks but its going to be a bit of a nightmare in the long term! Argh... Hope everyone else is progressing as planned

That's very sad CP - sounds like he was a lovely chap, and good neighbours are worth their weight in gold.
LL - you need a few gentle hugs right back! Goodness, you do put up with a lot! I'm still on my hamster wheel, trying to get things off my desk before I fly off and getting nowhere fast. I might have to postpone the trip and while in theory there's nothing stopping me from doing that, in practice all it means is that more things will creep into my inbox and I'll still be dashing off stressed and emailing as I go... What I might do is keep an eye on the weather and move the dates around when the temperatures are at their best. Seems as good an idea as any! |

Mistook a chilli i pepper for a sweet pepper while making a tuna wrap, nom nom aargh. I toughed it out, ow ow ow.
Why would distant neighbours have what sounds like an atonal choir, no tune, just what sounds like voice exercises. Annoying as hell, window closed, getting hot. Their next door neighbours must be out. |

Ah, I can see you!
Greetings from the east. Not the far east, just east-ish Europe. Yup, I've managed get myself on a flight. ![]() KJ - how annoying. I can sympathise, not that our neighbours sing, tunelessly or otherwise. Nope, instead they seem to communicate by screaming, their three kids especially but mum and dad too. Nature or nurture I wonder... So even though we're detached and so are they, with a fair bit of both gardens acting as a buffer zone, we still get to be an audience to their daily dramas. And they've woken us up loads of times - 7am on a Sunday morning and yup, why not have a scream in the garden? And as if that wasn't enough, it seems that they've bought a dog. It barked for over three hours the other night. Batman thinks we need to get triple glazing, I think I need to lose my temper and go and have a word. Much cheaper. SnOwy - very impressed with the morning gym session.

Yo yo yo! I'm still alive! woot woot!
Things are somewhat more peaceful than they have been which is good. I'm living in a permanent state of tiredness but I have 2 weeks off booked for 4 weeks time which is the next school holidays, so hopefully that will put me right and I can catch up on some sleep! YoungPlum is generally going very well although she does have her moments of teenage attitude where if I were prone to violence I would happily kick her butt, but fortunately I'm not violent, for two reasons, one violence is generally wrong and the other being it's a bit of an effort to kick her butt as she's so much taller than me - and yes I've tested this theory We've been watching Downton Abbey, after avoiding it for so long we finally got hooked but we only have 2 series left to watch and then we'll be at a loss. Anyone have any good series recommendations, GoT is a bit inappropriate for her yet (she's 14 now) and I don't like horror but that is about it in terms of restrictions. Preferably a fairly long running series .... I went and looked at a 3 piece suite today that a friend from work's sister is selling because she is travelling and it's beautiful and a real bargain, so I'm going to get it and worry about the money afterwards - if I keep waiting til the time is right we'll be sitting on garden chairs still in 10 years time! The Demento Twins and Destructo are still causing much merriment, separately though, they still do not get on at all. Tonks the lazy fluffy pretty girl has been watching the Olympics and now has got in touch with her inner gymnast and has taken to swinging by one leg from door handles - and climbing curtains. I wish she wouldn't but it's all exercise I suppose Luna meanwhile climbs people .... fortunately for me, YoungPlum is generally her choice of Everest... so as far as I'm concerned it's not a problem, YP possibly disagrees and she's torn between finding it cute and/or funny and extremely painful at times depending on what she's wearing! I do look in regularly to see what's happening and love reading all the posts, I'm getting somewhat wistful about missing England though... I'll get over it though, I always do! Good luck to SnOwY boy with his new adventure! |

Hope you sleep better tonight LL.
![]() Plummy - 2 weeks off! Wow! Please don't spend the time catching up on boring stuff like jobs around the house. Put your feet up, read, eat (say yes to lard) and maybe drink a little too... I was hoping to post some viewing suggestions but all my favourites are a tad on the adult side a la House of Cards. But maybe this will do http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4877736/ . There's only a tiny bit of bonking in it and the humour is both dark and silly, with, I'm guessing, the silly being picked up on more by younger viewers, if they're lucky enough to be allowed to watch. Just one season so far, but I'm keeping everything crossed for a 2nd.

*waves to lurking Amica* - hope you're OK?
snowy, glad your adventure worked out OK. Big hugs for the empty house, must feel weird xxx Plum - hi !!! Viewing... ooh, goody! I *do* love recommending stuff! Have a try of the following: 1) Dr Who (I know you've probably seen them all already but all the new stuff is really good and there have been nine new series now I believe, that'll keep you going!) 2) Star Trek - seriously, it's great. Start with The Next Generation, then go on to Deep Space Nine, skip Voyager, it's awful, and watch Enterprise. Keep you going for MONTHS! 3) Hustle - 8 series of 6 shows per series made by the BBC. It's about a crew of Robin Hood type con artists and is really well made and cool and funny and clever. 4) Robin of Sherwood (which you may remember from our childhood!) Three series of mystical loveliness; reinterpretation of the Robin Hood story by Richard Carpenter 5) Merlin - high-quality sword-and-sorcery stuff from the BBC 6) I know you said "not horror" but Buffy the Vampire Slayer is not really horrible horror and it remains, imo, one of the best things ever shown on TV. It's hilarious, it's exciting, it's sad, it's just brilliant. Out of all of them, watch this one. 7) NYPD Blue - a bit adult at times maybe but there's only some very soft-focus romantic bonking and some very mild cussing. Very high-quality American cop series. 8) Watch the How To Train Your dragon films and then you can watch the accompanying animated TV series - first two series are on DVD and the rest is streaming on Netflix. Only 20 mins per episode but it's great. 9) Only one series but a lot of my Year 9 students (same age as LP) watched Dickensian this winter and enjoyed it; Ade and I did too. Great performances, brilliant idea can't think of anything else right now, and am quite clearly showing my fantasy/sci-fi preferences, but hopefully some of those are of use! Let me know how you get on! |

Morning! I'm home again. Bit knackered round the edges but we've next to nothing planned for the weekend so I can slob about, read, eat... yup, that's about it, probably.
