After a week of hassle because of incompetence at work was really looking forward to my weekend. Unfortunately we got caught out by the snow - yes I know it was predicted but all the snow forecast for the previous two weeks was not as expected so why should they get anything right?

Upshot - we were at a dinner dance 20 miles from home when the prepaid taxi rang to cancel. Mm. I was wearing a cocktail dress and high heeled slingbacks. Plus a short coat. I begged some plastic bags and after a short lift and two taxi rides later - first one -told us "Can't go on the motorway it's blocked"- I walked the last section in the bags - no shoes by this time as the snow was too deep.

Not to be recommended. It hurts like hell as your feet warm up - and I didn't rush it - just padded
round the house barefoot and squealing in the early hours..

Lessons learned : a deposit for a taxi return journey is pointless;the met office occasionally get it right when you least expect; and always take your wellies to a dinner dance!

Hats off to Mrs KJ. Wish I'd been wearing my onesie!

Yikes Amica - I did similar treks in my youth but wouldn't even contemplate that now!

Just after Christmas my plan was to lose a stone before I went on a girly weekend away... I'm two weeks away from it and not quite remembered to say no to lard so I'm now concentrating on just not putting anything on! I've tried my dress on again (it's fancy dress all weekend but only one outfit is giving me cause for concern!!) and it still fits so hopefully all will be well

Amica that sounds like a nightmare but hopefully you can laugh about it now!

Colette this relationship is the first I have been in that I haven't lost loads of weight in the beginning!! (I think it is my age and he kees taking me for nice meals and nothing else haha!!) In fact I have put on!! Friday I had to buy an outfit a size up for a Burns night and was chuffed as DP was selling two for the price of one on their bargain last sale reduction rail so got 2 dresses one size up for the princely sum of 7quid!! Bargains never happen for me so was chuffed to bits! Anyway hope all your outfits fit which i am sure they will and you have fab time

I am off to daughter's in 10days time and I call that my fat camp so will hopefully come back a size less and I am also thinking about doing the 5/2 diet! fast 2 days and eat what you want for the other 5. I have researched it all and saw the programme Eat less and live longer (not that I want to live longer!) but I do need to lower my BP and cholestral

Ok enough rabbiting on and off to bed night night grumpies x

Spooky - was just coming here to see if she was around - as usual because my geography is appalling I am not sure if she's in the areas affected by flooding but truly hope not

Am having an interesting week, and it's only Monday.

I hope all grumpers are ok - read your tale with horror, Amica, you mad woman

The snow vanished overnight here in what sounded like a monsoon. Garden's like a swamp (clay soil) but at least I had a window of opportunity to mine sweep it yesterday

Morning all I'm still alive and kicking and my head is above water!

Sorry not been around, my life has been a tad chaotic - not because of anything in particular happening but just because I sometimes have these spells where nothing quite goes to plan

We were hit by the tail end of the cyclone towards the end of last week but we just got big rain and high winds but fortunately no flooding. I'm fairly up in the hills anyway so should be good even if there was torrential rain coupled with king tides which is usually what leads to problems up here. We lost power for a few hours because the lines were down and there was tree debris everywhere but that was about the extent of the damage. Down south (or South-er) in Brisbane area is really copping it again and because of that we lost mobile internet and mobile phone services for a day or so. Some of these poor devils that are being flooded out must only just be recovering from the last terrible floods a couple of years ago! .... and they call living in Australia living in Gods Backyard, if that's the case then he needs to sort out his drainage issues

The other unfortunate aspect of this weather for me on a personal level is that I've had several shifts at work cut because we aren't getting deliveries. When big rains come the roads and rail services inevitably get cut and no load, no work ..... no pay - wahhhhhhhh! However, in the light of the devastation down south I'd rather be in my position than in theirs, so I think it's a case of counting my blessings again

YoungPlummie went back to school today after the LONG summer holiday, and is starting Grade 6. She's a happy little trooper as she got the teacher she wanted - she likes male teachers best which I think is probably a good thing as it gives her a good male role model. Unfortunately she seems to have done some more sprouting and I thought I was going to get away with just new shoes and sport shoes but when she put on her uniform this morning it's become apparent that I'm going to have to replace all that - again! She does this every year - pesky lanky bean that she is! Uniform isn't cheap, so she's going to have to breath in and stoop for a week or two - I'm a cruel mum!

DestructoPup had been a good dog for a while until our miserable old git neighbour thanked me for all my efforts in getting her to be good. Since then he has jinxed the situation and she has reverted to being a tearaway as soon as darkness falls. At the weekend I was up to 4 am one night and 6 am the other night shhh-ing her every time she started to bark. She stops when told, has a rest for 20 minutes or so and then has another woof. I gave up going to bed and just camped out on the patio in the end! However, last night she was a good girl so keep your fingers crossed that progress is being made again! Otherwise the dog will have to go!

That is all my news I could also give you details of my weekly shopping if you so wish

I have read through the thread but by the time I came to post, I can't remember who I should be saying what to!

Congrats twingle on your grandson of the frowny face! Amica I hope life is getting better for you, I had no idea how grim things had been for you.

.... and that's where i forget everything. So big hugs and positive vibes to all of you that need them.

Sorry about all the wiffle - that'll teach you to keep your mouths shut when I go quiet, just enjoy the peace

Good morning all and Plumster never stop your wiffle!! Are clothes in Australia really expensive? Daughter from next door was home for xmas and went back with the whole of Debenhams and Dorothy Perkins and says even with the 100 dollars to pay for extra bag was cheaper than buying at home (Perth)

Grump time ladies! I am beginning to think this relationship lark is not for me. We went away for the week-end and he is too much of a gentleman for me, opening doors helping me with my coat and chair and door etc.Even getting out of the car to guide me into car parks The final straw was when I said I was going outside for a cigarette and he says mind and put your coat on!! What am I?? 5 yrs old!!! So he got the sharp end of my tongue expletetives and all!

I know if that is all I have to moan about I am stupid but honestly am way too independant for all this wrapping up in cotton wool rubbish. Writing this down sounds so petty on my side but honestly it is wearing. On the plus side we had a big discussion about it and he says that he will try hard not to do all this but he was brought up to treat a lady right!! But I don't think he will ever again tell me to put my coat on nor guide me into car parks!!

Happy Tuesday all

If it makes you feel better I have a permanent swimming pool at the bottom of my garden which has been there since I moved in and I have had 3 diffferent gardeners trying to resolve the problem which costs bloody money argh!! I suppose my own fault as i went for the cheap fix when I really need the expensive tunnel drainage which will need to be done eventually

Hi all. Good god you girls are all having one hell of a day/time of it. My only grumble (and its a very small one) is that I haven't seen my youngest son for over a week. He has a new girlfriend and he is 23 but I still miss him. Yep pathetic I know. x

Today I have been experiencing death by powerpoint, mostly - writing it, proofreading it and generally tarting about. There are worse things, obviously

Get Mr Perfect to fix it, he sounds the dedicated sort

Seriously - now some women would kill for an attentive man - me, I'd wonder what his ulterior motive was as I'm a born again cynic
