haha true - I think they were closer to the recycling bins and I have reminded myself recently why I was a Newky Browner in my youth

And I wonder why say no to lard isn't working
Newcastle Brown. Now there is a drink I haven't partaken in for quite a while.

I have decided to take the plunge and get FTTC, which means getting a new router and an engineer coming out to make some adjustments to the phone socket. It wasn't that long ago Sky told me it wasn't available in my area, so I found this out more by accident than anything else. Apart from the £50 activation fee, it will another £10 a month for hopefully 40 meg down and 10 meg up, the download speed being roughly 4x what I get now and upload speed x10. They do another service for £30/month giving 60 meg down, IIRC.

No snow here, either - thinking of those of you who've got it!

Mr M keeps getting to inteviews then getting "thanks but no thanks, you were very good but X had more experience". Better than no interviews but mucho frustrating. Anyway - another one on Thursday - vibes please!

AS for me - two days of domestic godessery and childcare. Actually quite enjoying it now... but I'll be bored by Friday!

ETA - hello, jra

I'm partial to the odd bottle of Dog, as we call it in t'North East. I actually prefer beer to wine a lot of the time, though one bottle is all I can cope with. Cheap date, me!

Night night...

I had to look up on t'internet to see what that was.... and being in Australia I looked it up much more slowly than you Europeans do

No snow here either

Still have my fingers crossed for MrM - at least he's getting to interview stage regularly so his time will come!

I've managed to scrape a few hours extra this week which make up for Friday being a public holiday so I should be ok next week. Actually I've worked the last two Saturdays as well so the extra money has come in handy to pay off the vet bill. The only problem is working a full 9 hour shift doing heavy lifting, I'm a bit old for this malarkey! Mind you, I don't get away with whining about it at work as one of my colleagues in the department is a good ten years older than me!

Nothing noteworthy is happening here that I can think of .... although having told YoungPlum that I detest bubblegum chewing and having always refused to get her any, she bought some today after school while going to the library with her mates. I felt obliged to teach her how to blow bubbles.... which in the middle of a shopping centre isn't all that good as I had to show her the various stages of the process which isn't a good look in a youngster never mind an older lady As a single parent of an only child, it's amazing the gaps you have to fill in their knowledge.

FTTC is basically Fibre (optic) To The Cabinet. A means of getting faster broadband, without having a direct fibre optic cable wired into your own property.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiber_to_the_x#Definitions

And good vibes to handy.

More good vibes from the batcave to the handymeloncave. You can never have enough good vibes.

Here, I'm still madly busy but managed to carve out a small amount of *me* time today and went chocolate shopping.

I got completely carried away. The till lady asked if I'm expecting loads of family for Easter. I said yes, loads.

jra ... I don't like Sky, for very good reason. Since we don't want to rehash endless arguments on DS in grumpyland, or get too nerdy, all I'd ask as a fellow grumpy is for you to seriously consider "Good Honest Broadband from Yorkshire' in other words, Plusnet.

http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/p...tic-broadband/

I've been with Plusnet (via a company it absorbed) for over 10 years now. I'm only on copper, but I get 17 Mbits/s, unlimited in speed or amount, £11 month. Customer service is top notch.

That line is bollocks. Vibes to MrM.

Maybe it's time to be a bit more, erm, arrogant?

I think experience is nothing to do with it sometimes, it's just exuding confidence. I'm too honest ... I scare people who want to be told the world is fluffy ... I think those who "get on" simply know when to bullshit.

Mr M doesn't really do arrogant, KJ, but I know what you mean!
This next one is a training job and he's pretty good at that, so hopefully this might be the one...

Big vibes to him then Here, I have a job dilemma in that a school are offering me work for the summer term; but that would mean jeopardising the self-employed stuff. Money would be a welcome bonus but business is just building. It's all a bit

KJ - don't mention plusnet to Mr Sad. He's just done extensive research and chosen a new ISP and that's not it

I've got no problem with Plusnet personally. My dad and his partner are both subscribed. For me, it was easy to migrate from UK Online LLU to Sky LLU, when UK Online was folded up. The other deal breaker is international calls to 20 popular destinations, which are unlimited on Sky LLU, are not with Plusnet, time wise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Online

Mixed feelings for some, but migration for me went smoothly.

Tired. Very tired. Up at 6, worked all day, straight home at 7 to doing work at home. Just having my 15 minute break then back to doing work. And I want a full-time permanent job? I must be mad!

I want a new phone. I need a new phone - my phone is pink, I hate pink .... well i don't hate it but I have never liked pink. Why anyone would get me a pink phone I have no idea. Bloody thing won't die though. It hates me - it's going to work forever out of spite as it knows I can't justify a new phone til it passes away. Collette I am jealous! I'm a UK virgin too btw Just not in Australia

Could I recommend you get a Panasonic phone. Various models are available, some of which do everything, except make you a cup of tea.

For instance 30+ minutes answer machine, SMS, 200 number phone book, night mode, call barring and number blocking etc. etc.

I have no idea tbh, but it may be a better idea to ask in one of the phone forums. All I know is that they are pretty well all singing and dancing.

I have an old skool Nokia. It does phone calls, SMS, and plays choons. It was #1 or #2 phone in India and/or Indonesia when I bought it from Tesco. If I spend £10 on PAYG, I get £20 of free calls for a month.

There's a market for affordable phones that come without clutter and expense:

At the moment, you could recommend anything you like Only because I can't afford/justify a new one - dammit! ... and to be honest unless a hammer "accidentally" collides with my current abomination then I'm stuck with it.

I like clutter and expense .... or I dream of liking clutter and expense.... affordable is just no fun when it comes to dreaming of things you can't have!

I'm so tired today but will be off shortly for another 9 hour day at work. To make matters worse, one of the BIG CHEESES will be visiting today .... so everything that is currently shit-shaped will have to be ship-shape! Actually, the boss has been being nice to me the last few days, it's very strange but I'm not complaining. Oh and to define "nice" in this context, it mean "not horrible" which isn't my usual definition of "nice". I suspect after todays visit, things will return to normal, as we are likely to come under fire. Ho hum!

Still no snow here and none forecast for the forseeable future. No cyclones either which is good, hope it stays that way!

Well I must be going - sleep well when you go!
