Clare Balding introduces live coverage of the 159th Boat Race on London's River Thames, with Oxford University hoping to avenge last year's dramatic defeat to Cambridge University. The first contest took place in 1829, and has been held every year since 1856, but few races have been as incident-packed as last year's, which was interrupted by a protestor in the water. Cambridge went on to win following a restart, although Oxford were disadvantaged after suffering a broken oar in a clash of blades. This year the Oxford eight hold a 21kg weight advantage, but both crews can call upon a British Olympic medallist; Oxford's Constantine Louloudis helped the men's eight win bronze at London 2012, while Cambridge's George Nash claimed bronze in the men's coxless pair. Commentary comes from Andrew Cotter, Dan Topolski and Wayne Pommen. Happy Easter to all my grumpy friends
My cold is progressing nicely and I've now got an evil sounding cough which I don't care about because my throat has stopped being sore. Feeling shitty still though but I can't take the day off as it's penalty rates today and tomorrow and I have some big bills coming up in a month or so (car insurance, and power) on top of the usual ones. I didn't get my little tv yesterday as the bloomin' post shop where you pick up failed parcel deliveries was shut! Everywhere else was open but it was SHUT! oh woe!! Now I'll have to dash in after work on Tuesday. Things can never be totally straightforward can they. jra - I used to always watch the boat race and traditionally we support Cambridge. My parents lived in the Cambridge area for a while before I was born and one of my uncles was Dean of one of the University colleges there. |

When I was a student, a boat race was nothing to do with boats, oars or water.
![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boat_race_%28game%29 I never managed a yard though. ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yard_of_ale Also, used to play this quite a lot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzzy_D...inking_game%29 |

I love getting too pissed to cook supper - for us it generally leads to a dirty kebab though
I'm celebrating Easter with wine and the kids' chocolate - seemed rude not to ![]() I also won a bet with the ginger on the outcome of the Boat Race - I bet him his pocket money that either Oxford or Cambridge would win

I'm a very naughty boy.
Met M..... who is the niece of one of my next door neighbours and told her I think she is gorgeous, but unfortunately she is engaged. Made my day anyway to meet her. She is a lovely Afro Caribbean lady.
