Clare Balding and Nick Luck are in Aintree to bring viewers all the excitement and drama of the 166th running of the world's most famous race - the Grand National. Since it was first won, by the ironically named Lottery in 1839, the famous fences, such as Becher's, Valentine's and The Chair, and the lung-bursting run-in of this great race have represented the pinnacle of ambition for jockeys, trainers and owners around the globe. Ahead of the big race, there are four other top-quality races, and the Channel 4 team will tell many of the great stories that surround the 40 runners and riders facing today's unique challenge. And, after the race, the Grand National re-run will clarify where history and heroes were made. Aintree: 1.45, 2.15, 2.50, 3.25 and 4.15. Presenters: Clare Balding and Nick Luck.

We've had a lovely day being townies - walked to the city centre, bit of shopping and a glass of wine, then a stroll back. Lovely.

Bit of a reflective day here. And back down to earth with a bump tomorrow - 6am start on a Sunday to meet the errant daughter when the bus arrives back in Herts from the coach journey she's currently making from Croatia. Early night it is then.... get well vibes to HM xxxxx

Good morning/evening all

I think I got up too early, I'm tired again now. Luckily today is my day of nothingness .... apart from cooking, shopping and ironing Well I did think it was a day of nothingness until I remembered the ironing - d'oh! On my biology report years ago when I was about 13 it said "The minimum is her motto!" so I might make use of that motto today

It's all grey and miserable looking outside, I think we have a week of showers ahead apparently. Keeps the place green I suppose!

Time for a cup of tea and breakfast - I love breakfast!

I'm in the mood for a little victory dance with or without pants on my head TV/DVD player combo thingo all set up now and I get all the channels apart from about 3 SBS channels which are nearly always foreign news in foreign. My happiness is totally disproportionate to my success as I probably won't watch much tv anyway, but now I can if I want to! I watched some American Idol this afternoon just because I could.

No shift roster for work again this week, so it's all a matter of guesswork. I'm going to just keep turning up for my usual hours and hope for the best.

That's a bit frustrating Sad getting up for no good reason! Gives you more time to do your training doo-dads though I suppose! Have you sorted out your handouts yet? Not that I'm nagging or anything

Oh and jra - re breakfast, I'm not saying what I was thinking....

Toasted teacakes here - great minds think alike snowy!

I've finally chased a tired and grumpy Mr M (who didn't get much sleep when I was poorly and also had to look after melony) and a stir-crazy melony (who has been shut inside all day) out to the park for a run about which will hopefully improve both their moods and mean I can get some flipping work done properly!

I feel like flirting today. Apparently it has now been banned on DS. Now, where is the lovely Ima.

I'm still here.

ETA. I hope it is all just harmless fun. If I've offended anybody, give me a virtual slap.

Good morning all

I fancy toasted tea-cakes. I presume they must do them here but I've not had one for years! I must go on a mission this week to find some!

jra - now if flirting has been banned on DS .... and you then look for me, are you trying to get me in trouble? but with a hint of - I'm always getting into scrapes

Another grey start to the day but no doubt the sun will come out sooner or later! I hope so anyway.

Hope everyone is well again and happy! Is Batty off on her travels now?

I should be back at work tomorrow, but have somehow managed to hurt my right leg somewhere in amongst all the puking up and sleeping I've been doing and am going to have to visit the docs instead. It's far too sore to drive there, apart from anything else.
Quite how I'm going to sort out getting my dratted marking sample finished off and sent I have NO idea. AND I'm supposed to be having two fillings tomorrow afternoon.

What an end to a bloody school holiday!

You don't do things by halves do you! I've got a sore right leg too btw - tell me what our diagnosis is after you've been to the doctor, it will save me a trip

Hope you get everything done that you need to get done handy. I usually find the best way is to do one thing at a time and not focus on the big picture, if you think about everything to squeeze in, your head will start to spin Poltergeist girl styleee.

Soon! I'm packing now and I know exactly where my passport is, so this trip looks quite promising. Watch out for that postcard winging its way to you shortly.

handy - a gentle hug (((handy's leg)))

See you soon Grumpies!

Safe trip, batty!

On the other hand the sun is (sort of) shining and I get a day off work...

Hope everyone else is having a tolerable Monday!
