Where's Sad? She'll love this.
KJ puts a big load through the washing machine, tumble dryer. KJ discovers that the tumble dryer had contained about one ounce of MsKJ unmentionables. It all kicks off. MsKJ: "Dad, I've been at work all day" ect, exeunt KJ I'm proud of her, for landing a job, so much (and she has passed her driving theory test, yay) ... but .,.. (grump) Aaarrrrghh! Come back after thirty odd years at work followed by ten years of recession induced stress and then you can criticise me darling! (/) |

jra - I've got a Kindle and my son's old iPad, and I must say for me the Kindle is the best thing ever invented. It's just the right size for a handbag and it has everything I need. And I love it.

My beloved Kindle is... Fire HD, I think.
(((KJ))) Here, I've hit a wall of officialdom and I'm getting very grumpy indeed. I hate illogical waffle and people who get to make life changing decisions for others but can't properly explain why they think what they think. Some systems are just so bloody flabby and undoubtedly more about keeping people ticking boxes than dealing with issues their titles suggest they might have an interest in. Everyone say grrrrrrrr..................... |

You know things are bad when you have to make a list of your To Do lists.

Thanks handy.
![]() Yup, here we go again. I'm going to be covering about a 1000 miles this week, and I'm trying to figure out where to be when, so that everything I absolutely need to do will get done. My favourite task of the week is personally delivering some paperwork, which I have to do by the 9th of September. The letter informing me of this was dated the 10th of September and I didn't receive it until the 14th. I'm guessing a touch of time travel is in order. |

"my opinion doesn't count" on MoTD.
![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motd_%28Unix%29 Unix used to own Windows back in the day, in terms of desktops, other than not having a dedicated GUI. I remember back in the late 90's, a Unix based system running dual pentium 233 MHz processors, could handle 15 users on the system at a time no worries, but a Windows 95/98 desktop would struggle with more than even one user. /etc I was quite good at shell scripts backs in those days, especially the Korn shell, but I got myself into quite a lot of trouble at one place of work by accidentally deleting some of this directory as a superuser. Not a good idea. And it would be a bad idea as well to type in the rm -rf comment as a superuser from the root directory.

Picked the wrong day to wear no socks and thin trousers (in my defence the sun was out the sky was blue and I had NO idea it was only 12 degrees outside until I was too far from home to remedy this).I'm ok thanks HM - just a bit 'meh' and lurking rather than posting due to lack of energy and enthusiasm - mostly down to my age, I suspect xx

I've been spluttering with laughter at this tonight: www.damnyouautocorrect.com
I'm old enough to know better, but what the hell! Sad, age is merely a number. Eat some cake! *mmmwah!* |

![]() ![]() I've still got the notes I made regarding Unix commands and scripts, plus a selection of books on the OS. I guess I could relearn most of it within a week. | (pipe) and grep are very powerful Unix commands, for example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grep http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipeline_%28Unix%29 But of course, you know all that already. On one occasion I had to write a shell script in order to remove orphaned entries on the live PayPoint (yellow terminals in shops) database (Informix). There were over one million entries needing removal. Needless to say, that had to be tested very well. Thankfully, it proceeded fine without repercussions.
