i know they are one of Holloaks loved couples but can we really go through 2 years more of their drama?

in the past few episodes i have to say i didnt miss them one bit it concentrated more on family and other characters rather then there love story and constant arguing

is it time to give them there happy ending And pull the plug on the story?

any thoughts?

One of Hollyoaks loved couples? Are you kidding me?

Please please, someone pull the plug. I'd rather eat my own guts with a spoon than watch any more of their sentimental weepy ill-matched witterings.

Has ruined one good character, almost ruined one great character, and dragged a third down with it.

I think they should split them up, Doug should realise that he deserves better than being caught up in Stendan and go back to living with Dennis, Texas and Leanne.

Ste can go back to loving/hating Brendan and Ste and Doug can run the deli as friends.

I wasn't getting at you dublintv at all. But I honestly haven't seen this love for them. Maybe I look in the wrong places.

But you're right. Doug had loads of potential, once. I've never seen a character quite so totally trashed. Now, he just seems like a weepy, smothering, insecure bore.

Split them up, put a bullet in it, turn off the life support, give us all a flipping break. Let Ste be single for a bit, let Brendan have some fantastic post-Later material.

HO won't do it though. They're wedded to the flipping Stug thing and determined to drag it out as long as possible. Sigh.

When they first got together I thought hey would work because he story was separated from Brendan. Now the story is about Brendan and is bringing out the bad side in both characters, especially Ste. Split them up, gradually build a friendship up, and integrate doug back in with his friends.

I think Doug should go, his characters been ruined beyond repair, even if he does split from Ste he can't exactly go back to being straight again can he?
Turning him gay has got to be one of the worst things hollyoaks have done, and he' now a jealous over possessive child with it.
Plus John Pauls coming back, another gay character do we really need Doug too?

oh and I dunno where you got the idea that they are one of hollyoaks "most loved couples" from. HOW LAUGHABLE.

They are annoying but whoever is with Ste is annoying because that's the effect he has.

The scriptwriters just didn't know what to do with Doug. They had the love of his life, (who happened to be a girl) murdered by Silas, then a bunch of stuff happened to him and then they decided he is gay and would fall in love with Ste.

Hey Tom

Hope you're good this weekend?

As for Stug, couldn't care less about them as a couple and will actually hate either one of them if they go near John Paul.

I'm out of here

I loved Stug when they first started interacting. Trying to get one over on each other at College Coffee, the business pitch where Doug spied on some other contestants' muffins, the 'pizzazz' conversation, dancing around the barbeque... all gold!

Where it faltered for me is when they actually got into a relationship. No actually, it was when Ste told Cheryl there was someone that he'd liked 'for ages', despite there being no suggestion on screen that he'd even had any awareness of Doug as a potential love interest.

A platonic friendship would have been great, but I've found them a bit weepy and bland as a couple. The recent argument scene in the flat was the best scene they've had in ages in my opinion, as there actually seemed to be a bit of a spark between them. The thing is, the drama isn't really arising from Stug themselves, but from another character...

Hopefully Ste and Brendan will sort things out soon, they're so watchable. But I hope when that does happen, it won't be too awful for Doug.

They should either repair Stug, stop pushing foward this NuDoug that is selfish and whiny and make him the Doug that he was with Bex or with his friends, Or they should split up.
I liked Stug, but now I dont think they work probably due to the backstory of Stug, Doug never shown any signs of liking men when he first arrived he liked woman and was a drug dealer. I really liked his relationship with Bex and how she was the love of his life. Doug announcing he was gay after a received a postcard from a friend just made the whole Bex relationship and him attemtping suicide worthless.
If they do split I'd like them to remain friends, though now I wished Stug never happened and that they were just friends that were business partners.

I think they should have a 'Crossroads' moment and have Doug waking up and the whole Stug thing was just a dream!

It was only last December when Doug was going to kill himself because Silas had killed the love of his life Bex/Jenny and then by what July/August he is completely over the whole thing and is open homosexual man. It all just seemed a bit too quick for me.

Just wanted to say what a really thoughtful post this is, and that I completely agree

I'm also not understanding the notion of them leaving together? I don't think Hollyoaks are portraying them as one of their main couples, not anymore certainly. They tried with the true love stuff and it left most people cold. I don't really appreciate being told to love something, when normally in soaps it happens naturally without the effort. Perfect example would be Rhys and Jacqui or Darren and Nancy, they tried them out, no fuss, and it clicked. Those are the kinds of couples we root for (granted, it's been a tough old time for them this week, but hopefully they'll turn it around).

Agree with both these statements completely.
The only time I enjoyed watching Ste and Doug was when they had the argument.
I thought (hoped) that was the beginning of the end but it seems like HO are going to carry on with this ridiculous story... and maybe even a cringy wedding (please no).

If HO can't see that Brendan and Ste are what people want then they really need to rewatch the scenes with Brendan and Ste together and see what chemistry really is!

Thank you! I lurk a bit and always agree with your opinions too

I don't think Stug leaving together is even remotely likely (I hope!), so not really sure where this idea has come from.

Glad you agree Sadly I think some kind of wedding scenario is inevitable now, it's just the soapiest thing, isn't it?
