Dreadful film full of plot holes so that in the end it didnt really make much sense and was really just a parody.. which was not how it was marketed.
Shame, i expected much more from all involved. |

Having watched this with a group of friends last night I was expecting either a loved it or hated it response on here. And that seems to be the case.
Me, I absolutely loved it. |

I loved it too. I'm not usually a fan of the horror genre but I adore everything that Joss Whedon has ever done.

Excellent film. Not really a Horror, more a Teen-Thriller.
Joss Whedon perfectly balances Thrills with Comedy and a Cheeky wink! Great! |

I loved this movie. I found it quite tongue in cheek, not taking itself too seriously and for once in a horror film, I was kinda rooting for people NOT to get murdered. The scene with the motorbike was hilarious, the merman was genius as well. Absolutely brilliant, though I can completely understand why it might not be to everyone's taste.

After what seemed a lifetime, I finally got to see it and loved it
![]() Someone mentioned about sequences which reminded them of 13 Ghosts I agree - I loved 13 Ghosts so that made no difference to me I did think it was gonna be cheesy when I saw the high guy lmao. Also I'm quite surprised that he made it to the end. I'd have thought the girl and the 'scholar' guy would be the last two standing Also good to see Sigourney Weaver popping up

It's funny how people can perceive the same thing in totally opposites manners. I thought it was a film that didn't take itself seriously at all, I didn't see any pretense here. It's not like they tried to hide anything of the plot, it was just all revealed pretty much up front.

Thought Avengers sucked and Cabin in the woods was one of the best films we got in 2012.

It totally baffled me at the beginning, especially as it became evident that it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but once it did become apparent what it was about, I loved it.
I shall certainly be buying the DVD when it's under a fiver!!!

It has no pretenses, it's not up its own arse, and as another poster has said, it puts its cards on the table within minutes.
I've found that the people who didn't like it, didn't get it. They all said it wasn't scary or that they didn't like the 'predictable' characters, etc. Which is just not what the movie is about at all! |

This film was terrible IMO. The characters were extremely annoying and the story was awful, just terrible. I was intrigued at first and liked the game show idea but once it became supernatural it descended into a garbled mess, I mean come on, a game show created so sacrifices can be made to giant gods! It was a real cheap American teen horror trash with no charm even. After watching mothman prophecies this is about as scary as sponge bob.

I enjoyed the film. It's different to other horror movies I've watched.
The overall nods as to what makes a typical horror film, well, a horror film such as how the characters are influenced to behave like stereotypical horror characters, the warning by the hillbilly at the beginning, the typical setting and decisions the characters make are what really make the film. It's a horror film, but I don't view it as seeking out to scare its audience. Instead, it pokes at the various conventions of horror films with subtle references to other horror movies at the same time. |

That poster didn't demonstrate that they "didn't get it". And even if they had, it doesn't apply to everyone who disliked the film.

Actually, your response is the only weak and lazy part. I've asked a lot of people about this movie, and while I don't claim omniscience, it certainly seems if people go into the movie expecting a slasher horror movie and they don't see past that, they are ultimately disappointed. It's almost as though they don't make any relation between the teen revelers and the controllers in the complex.
But the movie is far more complex than that, and if they don't get that, then the movie is going to disappoint them. Of course, for many, if they don't 'get' the movie, then it's the movie's fault entirely. But a lot of people don't expect such a layered story so its subtleties goes over their heads. |
