Three Abroad
Ben1900

i'm off to Germany on Tuesday. Been looking at www.three.co.uk at the abroad coverage pages and it gives me two networks that my Three phone will roam on, but it says at the bottom of the Germany coverage page: "The first thing you need to do if you know you'll be travelling abroad, is make sure you have International Roaming enabled for your handset. The best way to do this is to call 3 Customer Services - 333 from your handset or 0870 7330333 from another phone - who can check that you can use your handset abroad or can switch it on for you if necessary (it will take approximately 24 hours for International Roaming to be enabled on your handset)"

so i called customer services (first time i've dealt with them) and they tell me it wont work. so are Three CS correct or just lying to me?

I strongly suspect they are lying to you. I suggest you ring up again and speak to a different person.

If you are on Threepay, it won't work. Roaming is not available to ThreePay customers as of yet.

If you are on Contract, then its a different matter, and subject to a credit check, they should enable it for you - you might have failed the credit check ("subject to status") in this instance, hence why CS have said it won't work.

dammit, oh well, looks like i'll have to take my slightly faulty 7250i

or whip the sim out of that and stick it in my old 3410 (which isn't faulty)

thinking about this now....

Germany has its own version of O2, named: O2 Germany, since Three uses O2 to roam in the UK (where there's no 3G signal), wont my 3 phone be able to use O2 Germany?

Nope. It may ultimately be owned by the same company, but it is a different network and the only way to use it would be international roaming.

Read my last post above, if you are on ThreePay it WON'T WORK outside the U.K at all.

If you are on Pay Monthly, then you probably failed a credit check!

lets face it, it barely works in the UK, why would it work abroad?

An outdated view, you should look how many people are enjoying Three now, they have come a long way since Three Bashing became fashionable.

Have you made sure that your handset is compatible with their networks? I haven't checked if they use similar signal types or anything so I wouldn't know, but if I want to take my A1000 abroad and roam I can do so aparantly.

If you have time, try sending an email via the Three website to their customer service team or call the executive office.

Another thing I have noticed is that if you call customer services during office hours you tend to get the Scottish CS instead of the Indian and they are a lot more useful. You could give that a try too.

i emailed 3 about this a few months ago. The list on their website about roaming only apply to contract. But they did tell me they have 2 3pay roaming contracts with france & i think the other was hong kong.

I was just about to say that
You'd be better off using pigeon carriers or putting notes in a bottle!
