Surely some of you must agree with me? I play guitar and I can sing, and I genuinely think her performance tonight was really basic. I'm not claiming to be a good singer, but I really think I could have done that same performance as well, if not better than her. So people who are actually good singers could have done that but so much better. I get that they like her because she writes her own songs and whatnot, but when she does a cover it's really no better than some kid on youtube doing a cover

I don't necessarily agree as such but understand what you mean. Basically it would probably be easier for the average person to imitate her rather than say Jahmene, Ella, James Arthur etc because they seem more talented ?

True artistic genius is when everybody says "I could have done that" and leaves them wondering why they never did.

Well, essentially yes. There must be thousands of singers in this country who could have performed what she did tonight, and they could have done it better than she did. There isn't anything special about her, she's a by the numbers act. People like Jahmene and Ella really have a gift for singing, and Lucy doesn't at all but it seems like if she plays a simple guitar song then that's completely excused.
Even her own songwriting, which is praised for being so original and fresh and unique - it's a complete ripoff of a number of popular musicians. It's Arctic Monkeys meets Kate Nash, there's just nothing inspired about it at all

But loads of people have done it. You can go on youtube and watch many people performing it just as well as she did, if not better. When I watch X Factor I want to see something actually good, not just something I could see on youtube at any time
Popular music isn't all about technical vocal prowess though, is it? Hence the reason the show is called "X-Factor", to accommodate the hard to define variables that make for a successful popular music star, or "Popstar".

That's a bit of effort at 2:15am. But just from a quick search, here is a far better performance of Gold Digger than Lucy did. It has about 2000 views.
I agree with the OP. Anyone who has watched covers or even amateur songwriters on youtube, or in pubs and bars, or on the streets, would see her as a dime-a-dozen thing.
Even though I don't like her, I'd admit that she has a bit more character than a lot of hobbying musicians though, and I believe that's what people like about her.
