Anyone else struggling to like anyone much this year?
I watched last night and realised I'm not that struck on any of them. There are a few I could go so far as to say are ok but most this time are just 'meh' and a couple are dreadful. Most years, there are a couple of acts I root for but can't bring myself to click on anyones name in the favourite poll

It's a pretty poor line up this year, shame when there was quite a bit of talent during auditions (Times Red were fabulous, they'd have brought some energy to the show). Watched it on Sky+ last night and fast forwarded through most of it (listened to the opening lines of each act but only watched James, Kye and Rylan through to the end).
Vocally, Ella should - and probably will - win but, unfortunately, she'll be cloned by the Simon Cowell robots and spat out when she has served her purpose then left on the scrapheap at 19. |

Not exactly. I'm actively trying not to get too enthusiastic about any act this year as the audience have appaling taste and acts I like never tend to do that well.

I like Ella, but her song choice was terrible. Jade has a good voice and performed well last night, but I can't really warm to her. The others are really meh.

The groups are pretty dire, Christopher and Rylan were both awful, Melanie was a let down (shame, because I loved her audition) and Lucy just sounded like Victoria Wood doing a speeded up version of Gold digger. I like Jade and Ella but I worry about Ella being ruined by Syco. I can't help feeling that she should have gone ahead with her 6th form Musical Theatre course, graduated, and THEN done X Factor at 18 or 19. Her school has a good graduate employment record for Musical Theatre graduates, so she would have had a much more solid backup plan should XF not have worked out. I hope doing XF at 16 doesn't turn out to be a bad idea. |

I really like watching Ella, James and Melanie perform. I hope all three go really far in the competition.
I quite like Jahmene too. I find Chris unlikeable and I hope he leaves soon. All the others are OK. |

I really love Melanie, but it seems a bit pointless getting behind her, since she's bound to be ousted in favour of a more traditional winner. I find myself looking at her and, rather than thinking "I hope she wins, I can't wait to see her every week" I find myself thinking "I can't wait to hear the album she puts out after she gets the boot." Sad, really.
As for Ella, while she's technically great, and probably deserves the win, the way the show loves its shock results etc. I actually would be surprised if she lasted the distance: after JH I genuinely considered putting money on Rylan lasting longer than her. I wouldn't do that NOW, but... |

I can see her having a bit of a bad week at some point and the judges turning against her. Louis Walsh kind of started it off yesterday by saying that Ella's image was too much like Adele. |

I always go for the (in my opinon) best singer out of the lot, so this year I've naturally gone for Melanie. If she goes, I'm not sure how much more I could watch though.

I'm liking more of this year's cast than last year's, but in such different ways it's hard to name a definite favourite. Lucy impressed me immediately and is the one I'd be most likely to travel to hear, the one whose albums I'll probably be buying for the rest of my mortal days. But Melanie turns in a tremendous performance every time and still leaves me thinking there's more that she hasn't shown yet, and after not caring at all for the way Rylan was presented at the auditions stage I'm finding him sometimes the most entertaining of all. Entertainment isn't nearly the whole of music, but is often the best XF brings me from week to week.
So those three are easy for me to like, and then there's Jade who's very good indeed and an obvious fourth choice: and there will always be a boyband or two and I'm immune to the charms of every practitioner of that genre that there's ever been, so at least I'm not likely to be disappointed there. |

I find them all so meh. There's no one who I can confidently say I'd buy their album. Very little star quality, reminds me of Series 4 some what. Just a bunch of average singers, no stars.
Melanie is fabulously talented however and very likable. Jade Ellis is also very likable but I find it hard to care about her. Lucy's act is getting very old, she was shambolic last night. |

Having just watched it today as I like to fast forward the adverts, I am at a loss as to some of the opinions on this thread.
The talent is diverse, solo singers are brilliant, groups better than normal and very good performances. I have gone off Christopher since finding out about his cruise ship past and Rylan is fun but about the same as Jedward and Frankie Cocozza talentwise. Laughed my head off when Rylan sang Garys song, all in all I enjoyed it very much but Rylan and Christopher bottom two for me. |

This year's weird for me because I like most of them (even the joke act this time) but I don't love any of them. Usually there is one act I root for which makes the result show etc. quite exciting but this year I'm not overly bothered.
Even Ella (who I though was amazing last week) is missing that something which makes her my 'favourite'. I wouldn't say this unenjoyable though because I can sort of watch without being biased and appreciate whoever performs well that week (usually I'd only care about the act I liked). Maybe as the show progresses I'll naturally get a favourite act. |

Almost every other year, someone at the audition stage has given me goosebumps because they've been so outstanding. In years gone by, that person would continue to give me goosebumps and they would be my firm favourite, even if they didn't win.
The last couple of years I haven't had that, not even with Ella. |

I agree with the OP. Lucy and James are probably the two that I like best, but I'm not really excited by any of them. Just to show the size of the problem, I actually DID find Rylan the most entertaining last night, and I can't stand him!

Compared to last year, where I liked a lot of people, this year's finalists feel a bit flat. Of my 4 or so favourites, one is already out (Carolynne), and 2 have messed up performances to varying degrees (Union J & Kye). Jade is excellent though, but I still don't feel as passionate about her as I have about, say, Sophie Habibis or Diana Vickers in previous years.

The only 2 who really do have anything special are Ella and to a lesser degree, Jade.

Up to 2009 I was hooked from week 1 (especially series 3 and 5). 2010 was OK but I didn't have a favourite and wasn't bothered who was voted off or who won.
Last year I was put off with the mass voting off in week 1, the whole Frankie fiasco and giving eliminated acts the chance of a free pass to week 6. I had high hopes for this year but so far I'm disappointed, just can't summon any enthusiasm Maybe I'll get into it more as the weeks go on
