You'd do well to remember that she was working on Eastenders LITERALLY until she gave birth. She then had a break in the form of Maternity Leave, which she is legally entitled to.

she had a year off though, which is as long as maternity leave is, then she left four months after returning. I don't really care cause i don't like Bianca but I can see why people are irritated, if she doesn't want to work on EastEnders she should just leave.

True.

I don't think the problem people have is with Patsy herself, it's with the producers for offering people contracts that simply do not work for a year-round continuing drama.

Who wouldn't work a schedule like her's if they could? Most people would if they were offered the choice. But on the other hand, if I was a producer running a show like Eastenders; I wouldn't offer anybody that choice to begin with. It simply can't work out in the long-run if somebody has to be written out for however-many-months every year.

Exactly my point, perhaps I didn't explain it quite as well or as simply in the other thread but at the end of the day Patsy had her maternity, she'd of been offered probably two months holiday, maybe a little more, to be taken sporadically across the year like everyone else. Instead since Kirkwood, the producers have become far too lenient with their stars and have allowed actors like Patsy to take six month breaks which is just ridiculous! It's bad for continuity and it's unrealistic to have characters coming and going every five seconds and it's become particularly unrealistic in Bianca's case.

I agree, it's not Patsy's fault but as I said a few months back the producers never should of sanctioned such breaks and Patsy should of been given a choice, join on the same terms as everyone else or leave.

True enough, but Patsy seems to have been particularly picked upon in relation to the other stars

Indeed. How many more times can Bianca go to prison lol?

Personally, it's because her appearences and disappearences are a lot more noticable then others in the cast, perhaps due to the fact that Liam, Tiff, Morgan and apparently Carol can't really function without her. And because as I said, it's become increasingly unrealistic in Bianca's case.

That and it bothers me that she came back for the amount of time she did. Had she come back purely for Pat's exit and perhaps left with David, it would be fine or had she stayed on for a year then had a break (like Jo Joyner) perhaps it would be easier to swallow or even had she not come back at all and what is to come was her first reappearence since maternity.

I assume you're unaware that Patsy Palmer actually became pregnant again during her initial maternity leave and had a miscarriage? It's perfectly understandable that she might have wanted to extend her leave, but returning for Pam St. Clement's exit. Even if she hadn't have miscarried she'd have to have taken another break.

I know someone touted a rumour about Patsy being on some bizarre "six months on-six months off" contract but I've not seen any article online to suggest this.

I said as much in another thread - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...9&postcount=21

The way some go on you would think she is never there and paid for this.

I think those who go on about Palmer's so-called breaks are ones who don't like the character of Bianca. It just seems unfair to pick on Patsy when she has only taken one break like other members of the cast have. If you're going to criticise actors for taking breaks then it should be all of them but the criticism should really be directed at the producers for allowing it.

One more thing Palmer is not being paid for the time she has off so it is not like us LF payers are out of pocket.

It doesn't bother me, they're always having to explain breaks. There are some that have yearly panto breaks. Didn't Patsy get married on her recent break, I'm sure I saw pictures on here. I know John Partridge had months off when he married, and that was on top of his panto break.
They don't get paid for breaks and, as they are out of contract when they take them, there is no guarantee that they will be asked back.

Nooooo, I will never miss that. I loved that we didnt have to hear her screeching voice and her rudeness to people.
She'll probably be poor again and back in prison by summer.

Why did she have to return, I would have prefered only Carol returning (with occassional appearences from Morgan and Tiff) then Whitney and Tyler could have moved to Spain or Suffolk forever.

Spot on. I agree with the whole post but particularly what I highlighted.

On a different note though, I think the trouble with Patsy is that she's slagged the show off before so many of us know her heart isn't really in it and she's just coming back for the dosh and flexible contracts. It could be behind people's resentment compared to Jo Joyner who to my knowledge hasn't said a bad word about the show. Perhaps it shouldn't matter that Patsy has been scathing but to me it does for some reason I can't quite explain (especially when I've had a few wines ).

I remember that, lovely photos. Like I say I think some people (or is that just me?) might be more forgiving if she hadn't bad mouthed the show. After all, can't really blame her for putting her family first.

Yeah, that would've much better

If I remember rightly she said the show is "rubbish at the moment" in one interview in 2004 or 2005 when the show was attracting a lot of criticism in the press. Maybe she should not have said anything at all but what she said is not that bad really.

Around that time she also defended the show on Strictly when one of the judges (Craig I think?) slagged it off.

The comments she made were before she returned so obviously she had a change of heart about not coming back and must've felt the show had improved. She has said before she loves EastEnders and watches it as a fan.

I agree she doesnt seem that into it or dedicated to her job. Also badmouthing the show , personally I think she should be grateful that they are giving her this long breaks with security that she can back to work. I agree about it not being good for continuity.

They have only given her one break like Jo Joyner, Charlie Brooks, Linda Henry, June Brown and Lindsey Coulson have all been allowed one break.

I agree it is not ideal for actors to come and go as it disrupts the flow of storylines but it's unfair to single Patsy out for this and ultimately the producers are to blame.

There is no evidence at all to suggest that Palmer is not 'dedicated to her job' the very fact she worked right up until the birth of her son says otherwise.

Ok that it true about working up until her due date, so I take the comment about not being dedicated back.
I do agree that the producers should try to a bit more strict with the breaks.
Pasty went on maternity leave then came back then after a few months went on a 6month break.
