Has this been retconned or removed from Corrie history? How could something like this not be coming up in discussion between the characters in a storyline such as this?

Well Ryan said "You were knocked up with me at 15" so clearly the babyswap story has been deleted from the writer's memory.

She also said tonight 'he's my child, my ONLY child.'

I was half-expecting Steve to then say 'but he's not, is he?'

If it was only a couple of episodes then they could sweep it under the carpet but they are trying to eradicate months of the show's history. It was also a dominating storyline at the time and the only thing that was going on for months.

I am also not entirely comfortable with Steve and Michelle getting back together and Steve's claims that they were "good together" when she practically abused him.

Grrr - I was screaming at the TV when he said that: "No she wasn't!!)

Are the writers/producers of Corrie treating us like idiots?

Moving staircases I can just about live with - but deleting an entire storyline from Corrie history is messing with me head.

I suspect it was the writers' ways of saying that they want to forget the entire 'real son' storyline ....and they'd like us to do the same.

But we're not going to!

But didnt michelle bring him up from a baby? So to her he would be her son and she would be his mum.

Unless shes only recently got him back after bringing the other boy up?

I think Michelle is in denial about the whole thing and is trying to forget about the fact Ryan's not her son!

I'm happy to accept that - but it was implied in tonight's episode that she'd given birth to him, which she didn't.

The suggestion, quite blatantly, was that Michelle is Ryan's biological mother.

Clearly, that whole embarrassing, unresolvable, baby swap episode never happened and it exists only in our imaginations.

Maybe that really is the case.

Yes, you're right, it was a case of national mass hysteria and we all imagined it. It didn't happen, right?

It was an absolutely horrendous storyline in the first place. It was completely unrealistic, served no purpose and had no conclusion or long term impact on the characters involved. I'd be happy to forget it ever happened although it is insulting to viewers to simply not mention it.

The way i would have wrote it would have been for Michelle to discover Ryan had not been at uni all this time but instead had been living with his biological parents who he had tracked down in secret and bonded with (this would explain why he never returned to visit his mum even over the Christmas breaks etc). So with the loss of Ryan Michelle would then track down her real son Alex and have him move in with her (he could have been played by this current actor) and their storylines could focus on them forming a bond. Too late for that now but i think it would have been better....

And to make it worse, it's not even all that long ago that Michelle and Ryan met up with her real son and his father and they swapped for a bit didn't they? How can we be expected to have forgotten that?

Too bad you can't transfer your imagination into the writers minds.

Yeah Michelle's real son Alex came to stay with her for a bit and he was a bit of a psycho- I remember he locked himself in the pub once.

The Michelle/Alex scenes were really creepy she used to take him out for dinner and stuff but it was like they were on a date.

Ryan also went to stay with his real dad. After the story had ended Ryan used to make reference to keeping in touch with his real dad but the writers now appear to have forgotten this.

I think with this new Ryan they want to forget everything that has happened before and reimagine the character, they are not just ignoring the babyswap fiasco, they have also given him a personality transplant compared to the previous Ryan.

Can I ask what actually happened in this storyline? I've only properly started getting into Corrie in the past few years and I'm not really familiar with what happened.

She still was pregnant at 15—only with Alex, not Ryan!

Would have been better if Ryan had said "You were pregnant at 15" rather than saying she had given birth to him.

Since Ryan returned, Corrie have deftly skirted round the whole baby-swap storyline - going by last night's episode it appears they've forgotten about it altogether (understandable as it was one of the worst storylines ever to hit Corrie!).

In real life its completely realistic that in the heat on the moment ryan would say "you were knocked up with me at 15" rather than "you were knocked up with another baby at 15 who was then swapped at birth with me, meaning that im not biologically yours but you did bring me up so i consider you to be my mother therefore you were knocked up with me at 15".
