Hi I just wanted confirmation from graham Thompson

So what I understand the HDR 1000s will be able to grab and stream content from my pc to the HDR 1000s over home network

But it is not yet been announced if the HDR 1000s can stream content to a mobile phone in other words act as a server

My question is how is it possible that now the HDR 1000s G2 can grab content from pc but the foxsat HDR with Raydon software is not capable of doing this

How has this turn around taken place when I was told that fox sat HDR can not act as a client

What a turn around is this not now the total opposite to the orbital fox sat with radon custom firmware

The only details I have seen are the answers Barry of My Humax Org received from Humax

"Content sharing via home network - From launch you will be able to use the HDR-1000S as a client device (so you will be able to access content from a shared device in your home (PC, Laptop, NAS, HDR-FOX T2). We plan to include the server functionality at a later date."

In answer to your questions - I would guess that the chipsets used on the HDR-1000S support for this function while those on the 4 year old Foxsat do not.

Why me ?. Repassac has pointed out the same information as I would have posted. The g2 box has media streaming capability (similar to the HDR FOX T2) and has the hardware to support it. The G1 box doesn't nor can it play back anything other than content which has the required support files (Raydons AV2HDR creates these). Raydons software lets the box be used as a media server but not currently as a player. Pretty sure read a post from Raydon that he is working on a way to let the Foxsat-hdr play back content from network drives but you will still need the support files referred to above.

The new box will eventually work both ways server and client.

Hi, Sorry if I am asking a daft question, but when you say that the box will eventually work both as a server and a client, does that mean by way of a software update?

If I bought a box tomorrow, that box would eventually be able to act as a server (i.e. as opposed to needing to buy a new version of the box with a new chip in it)?

For me, its an absolute requirement (ie to be able to send recordings across to another Fox box) and if the HRD 1000 will not have this functionality in time, then I need to buy the Echostar kit instead, which has the sling box functionality.

I don't have any experience of Humax (I've been a Topfield user for many years because of all the open source tap functionality) - any thoughts on how soon they might introduce this server functionality?

Don't confuse slingbox capability with media serving. A slingbox lets you view your recordings anywhere in the world by uploading it to the internet in lowish quality. Media servers stream content across your home network. Not a clue how this is implemented on the Echostar pvr. No extra hardware is required for the server on a HDR-1000s (it will have very similar capability to the existing HDR FOX T2). Can't tell you when the software upgrade will arrive though.

Yes, I'm clear on the difference. Echostar was really an "overkill" solution to the simple problem I have, which is to get TV recordings from the lounge across to a second TV in the kitchen (across a network, not hardwired), so that "'im indoors" can be banned to the kitchen to watch recordings of "The Simpsons" whilst I hold court in the lounge with loftier viewing.

Something so simple but seemingly so difficult to achieve. Even with Echostar, although its HDS 600 RS can sling across the world, finding a piece of equipment to effectively capture that sling on a second TV in the house is another matter. It opens up a whole new world. Personally I think its a manufacturers' conspiracy to prevent "cross network" sharing of recordings and make us continue to buy multiple PVRs etc. We need Cloud recording !

It might not be as simple as you think. Are you putting a 2nd pvr on the kitchen TV or are you expecting a smart TV to be able to view content from a hdr-1000s. If the latter you may be disapointed. The following Humax kit can stream both ways between themselves including encrypted content. HDR-1000s (with firmware upgrade currently client only), HDR FOX T2. The HD FOX T2 can act as a client not as a server. To do what you want to do you will most likely need 2 boxes. I have a Sony Smart TV upstairs and it works fine with Sony PS3 server on a PC, it won't work with any of the Humax kit (Foxsat-hdr with CF, HDR FOX T2). At a guess it won't work with the HDR-1000s either.

Thanks Graham. yes, I know I'll have to buy a second box for the kitchen, probably the hdr t2 (I'll try to get a graded one on humax website). It would just be too easy to expect that my Samsung smart tv would work ....

I know its an expensive solution to streaming between the two rooms, but I just want a solution and, other than the Echostar sling boxes, I haven't found another one. I'm a mac user, not pc, but I don't really want to introduce a computer interface in the middle in any event.
