Do Aussie soaps have poor script writers compared to the UK?

What really bugs me is the fact that the same hospital ward is constantly used in Neighbours.

They all get private rooms in the uk. I have never ha a private room! Also children go to children's hospitals. When Simon got drunk in corrie even he got a private room.

The police and hospital sets are way overused.

The first two things would be down to budgets not the writing. Soaps in Australia aren't the ratings giants they are in the UK, so therefore are lower budgeted, smaller productions. They simply don't have the luxury of multiple sets available to them so instead reuse a smaller number of sets.

Anyway I think point 1 refers to 'Home and Away' and point 2 refers to 'Neighbours'. That is just two shows. 'Aussie Soaps' suggests an entire genre of programming - but really it is two shows we are talking about.

I do not watch 'Home and Away' but I don't think point 3 really applies to 'Neighbours' in that the acting isn't that bad really.

I think the Australian soaps are terrible when it comes to doing kids bullying storylines. For instance, in Hollyoaks you would get kids properly abusing each other as kids would in the real world but in Neighbours their idea of kids bullying appears to be "You have glasses ha ha ha, doofus"... it's embarassing to watch when they do that.

Definitely not the case with Neighbours.

Well the Esther bullying story in HO started with Maddie spreading a rumour that Esther had a moustache - hardly gritty realism

I don't watch Home and Away but Neighbours has really picked up its game in the last 18 months and I would say in terms of quality and writing is the best soap at the moment...

No. They're both terrible.

Hospitals & Police Stations are busy places? Especially when main characters work there?
