Is it realistic for one house in a terrace to collapse on its own?

I refer to No.7 Coronation Street which collapsed due to "old mine workings" underneath, and wasn't rebuilt for approx 20 years.

From a building point of view (work in the trade) I would say no. Even if the minings were just underneath one house, walls etc are tied into each other.

I would imagine something similar to WW2 bombings on a terrace would happen.

That's what I thought. And funny how these old mine workings have never been mentioned since (though why would they?)
